Topic: Album of the month

Hey guys,

What´s your personal album of the month for January? We all know what´s going to be album of the month for Febuary..... but actually - let´s keep Joe out of the competition, or the other folks won´t have too much of a chance. wink

Doesn´t have to be released in that month, just what´s your favourite / most played record right now.

Mine would be

Jim Suhler & Monkey Beat - Tijuana Bible (yeah, a LITTLE bit of Joe on there too...)

Re: Album of the month

Well, since I have had a copy of Joe's new CD for several weeks now, it is my fave for January and February and probably March too.....:P

Its available on CD from 23rd February.

I've got a feeling that's all about to change......................

Please be in no doubt that this is the REAL ME! Beware imposters........................

Seasick Steve 'I start out with nohig and still have most of it left' . Saw him recently and he was brilliant, bought this CD and did not think much to it at first. DAB broke down in truck and it was the only CD I had to play. It really grew on me and now I cannot stop playing it. He really is one of kind.
I sometimes wear overalls for one of my jobs, turningup wih this cd balsting out really looks the part. YEEEHAAAAWWWW

Re: Album of the month

Well it isn't one album but I had a "Mule" month in January. I hadn't come across them until I joined this forum so thanks everyone who recommended them.

I've bought myself The Deep End I & II, Dose and Deja Voodoo so far and I've been listening to them (along with LFNIP) in rotation. Favourites so far are Fool's Moon, Soulshine, Beautifully Broken, Towering Fool and Little Toy Brain but really I like 'em all.

Next purchase (apart from John Henry) ?

I join you, David: Deep End and Deepest End. If I think about newer albums: Mighty Orq, To the bone.

Re: Album of the month

In January four albums by two artists got heavy play for me.  They were American Myth and Giving Up the Ghost by Jackie Greene and Separate Ways and Up Front & Down Low by Teddy Thompson.  Both these guys are pretty young with amazing talent.  Greene's drawn comparisons to a young Bob Dylan in looks and song-writing, but actually his music is way more diverse than just folk.  Teddy Thompson's Up Front & Down Low is a homage to Old Country that's just plain infectious.  This Englishman does Nashville WAAAY better than anyone.  He's got a voice better than anyone I've heard recently.
Forgot to include The Mighty Orq's Milk Money - very worthy!!

Re: Album of the month

deepest end is really good.  my favorite track is probably lay of the sunflower though it is different than typical mule.  worried down with the blues is the best on the deep end set and subsequently the best song warren haynes has ever written in my opinion.

ive been listening to townes van zandt-our mother the mountain mopre than anything.  best album to come out in january was already free by derek trucks.

Re: Album of the month

I spent most of January painting/redecorating our office, well during the day anyway. It's quite a mind numbing task at the best of times although there is a certain satisfaction at the end of it I suppose. To get me through I was inexplicably re-hooked into my fave prog-metallers Threshold. The MP3 player was pretty much repeat playing their album "Dead Reckoning". Heavy with some lighter shading (the music, not the paint).

February now, painting all done, Valentines day climbers a distant memory already. Oli Brown is my early month spin, Joe of course is up soon as well as The Answers "Everyday Demons", so February will be a busy month indeed...

Re: Album of the month

Well so far this year I've heard the new albums from Joanne Shaw Taylor and Aynsley Lister, so it would be have to be one of those, but I'm also keen to hear Jim Suhler, Derek Trucks and Dan A... from Black Keys.  I'll also not assume Joe's album is better than these other artists until I've heard it (although indeed it may be!) smile

Re: Album of the month

I'm with Deezer on Already Free. I highly recomend it. Glad to hear Eva is digging on Monkey Beat and Gunter on The Mighty Orq. Those have had heavy rotation for some time for me.

Re: Album of the month

Gary Moore - Close As You Get, has been getting some serious playtime the past month or so. Its one of my alltime favs.

Re: Album of the month

The Traveling Wilburys Collection got the most mileage in Jan. I picked it up with a gift card my daughter gave me for Xmas. Besides the original tunes off the two albums they recorded there are four bonus tracks and a DVD. One of those collaborations that comes along once in a blue moon.
