Either that was a mirror image or they have changed the stage layout. Carmine and Rick Stage Right and Joe and Bogie Stage Left.

AMAZING set list! WOW!! Something for everybody!! Thanks so much!! I'm wondering which songs were acoustic and did he use both for "Happier Times"?...How were the songs from TBOJH live?  OK, enough....     Cathy

Only used acoustic on Woke Up Dreaming and Ball Peen Hammer.  I have a curiosity question - on Joe's twelve string it looks like the bottom two strings are only singles - is this just an optical delusion, or is that how he strings it?

And Jim - yes the stage layout has been reversed - your eyes are working just fine.  So much for getting tickets on the left side of the audience.  To make up for it Joe seems to be moving around the stage much more than he ever used to.

The world premiere of Joe Bonamassa's 2009 edition of his World Tour was beyond belief.  We always say "how can it get any better" but it always IS better.  Any of you who have tickets for his upcoming shows are in for quite an experience.

First off, the show was heavily laced with new material - 6 out of 16 songs were from the new album (thanks for posting the set list RoadShow - I lost track after 4 or 5 songs), but a lot of the old favorites were left.

Some highlights:

The new stuff was even better live than on the album.  Given Joe's history of changing up how he plays certain songs as time goes on it will be interesting to hear how these songs evolve.  I think TBOJH is my favorite of the new ones - I loved that the first time I heard it last year, and it is still one of my favorites.  Lonesome Road Blues was great, and Last Kiss has some killer licks.  Great Flood is not one of my favorites - but it does sound better live than on the album.

Liked the selection of "old songs" that remain in the lineup.  The prelude to Mountain Time has been changed up yet again and it is Killer!  Any tapers out there?  I want a live version of this show yesterday.  Very glad Blues Deluxe is till in there - it is one of my all-time favorites.

Johnny A was great.  It isn't very often you get to see Joe interact with other guitarists on stage, and these two obviously have a great deal of respect for each other.  I haven't seen Johnny for a few years and I had forgotten how cool he is (oh no - more music to buy).  He played with Joe on Your Funeral My Trial and Blues Deluxe - quite the treat.  This really whetted my appetite for what Joe will do with the "Special Guests" that are sure to be at RAH.

The Flying V guitar was wild - Joe's antics during Just Got Paid get better all the time.  Just don't fall off the amps and hurt yourself before May!

This was my first experience sitting in the front row at a Joe concert - it's like having a personal show!  What a treat.  Got to meet up with The StepChild and his friend Pam (they were sitting right behind me) and also Mr.Lee and his friend.  Sorry I missed you Mindy - we were running late and just made it to the theater in time.  Pam and I kept looking at each other during every new song and said "Do you know the lyrics?".  Thanks to Michael and Jane, yes.

Can't wait for April (two more shows) and, of course, RAH!

Pictures will follow.

Sandy

Stepchild, Kyle and I had awesome seats. There is nothin better than dead center 2 rows from the stage. What a show...Joe was amazing as usual as were Bogie, Carmin and Rick.  Left the show buzzing! It was great seeing you again Sandy. I laughed every time you turned around because I knew we were thinking the same thing. LYRICS! Until our next show....

What an AMAZING show!  I was thrilled to hear the new songs and I have to say TBOJH is one POWERFUL song to hear live...what a great choice to open the show with!  Just Got Paid was a blast...I just can't put into words the feeling I got last night, there's NOTHING else like it, the energy that they put into the shows...thank you Joe, Carmine, Bogie and Rick!

Sandy I'm sorry I missed you too, Thestepchild and Pam, it was great to meet you guys!

I think I may have to schedule another road trip soon big_smile

It was really great to finally meet you also Mindy. It was a great show. Hope your ride home was smooth. Let me know when you schedule that road trip.  Talk to you soon I hope.

Re: Calvin Theater 26-Feb-09

Well one thing I haven't seen mentioned was the way the band is set up on the stage. (if someone mentioned it...sorry) Having Bogie to the right and Rick facing us on the left with Carmine and Joe in front made them seem like a more cohesive band. We were driving to the show and I listened to Last Kiss about 10 times and It's my favorite new song. The drums just stood out to me and when they played that as the second song I just watched mostly Bogie and he looks like he's having a blast on that song. I wasn't overly impressed with the Johnny A segment. He's obviously a great guitarist, his guitar sounded too loud and didn't blend well with the songs. (yes opinion) Joe mentioned they don't do that too often and I could see why.I THINK he jumped in during a vocal and Joe gave em a glance like..."DUDE." Nice seeing you again Sandy and meeting Mindy. It's cool having maniacs travel and meet through Joe's music. It amazed me at my first show not knowing his music and being blown away and now seeing him do a ton of new material and being equally impressed. Even with these mega bands when a new song comes on...time for a beer run. Joe it's,"No way I might miss something."  Got 2 questions Joe;How much weight have you lost? And,Have you ever swallowed a guitar pick?

"Is it the new blues mobile or what?"                                                                                                                                                                                                     "Fix the cigarette lighter."

OUTSTANDING Show!   I really enjoyed the "fresher" setlist!  .... Johnny A was a Fun addition to this show! Pretty cool to see how easily he fit into the show. ... Quarryman was Awesome and perfectly placed towards the end of the show. When Joe came out with the Flying V and tore into Just Got Paid, .... I almost fell of my chair!!!!!! This was my 9th time seeing Joe since 2003 and this has to have been one of the Best!!!

Re: Calvin Theater 26-Feb-09

Hello
I guess I'm the new guy on the block....Having signed up today.....but I've been a fan for a few years now...I've seen Joe three times now this year..last Thursday at Calvin Theater

No doubt....one GREAT player! The playlist was a great mix of old and new...and I purchased the new CD....it is great.

I did notice one thing though....Joe's voice seems to be "drownout" by the band at times....I thought it might be just me but then a guy in front of me turned and asked if I understood the words..I told him I knew the words but it was hard to hear them

Just a post to see if anyone else thoughht the same
