Topic: Gigs you walked out of..and why

Personally I've only ever done it once. I mean, you pay good money, so you try to see it through.
But this one time was such a disappointment. Must have '84/'85 and the cuplrit was...

Little Steven and the Disciples of Soul at the Mean Fiddler in North London. As a Springsteen fan I liked Van Zandt and had the albums 'Men Without Women' and 'Voice of America'.

I can forgive an off night, but there was no excuse for playing so badly, and, frankly looking so preposterous doing it. Thinking back I'm not sure any of them were playing the same song at the same time, but then it was sooo loud that it would have been difficult to tell.

I think we gave them about 4 numbers and then all 5 of us agreed that another song would defy logic. Still, given his political affiliations at the time, maybe some of the money went to a good cause, or at least a decent sound guy and some rehearsal time.

Thats the only time, although I admit accompanying my daughter to a Lostprophets gig at Wembley a year or so ago did push me to the brink. The screaming. What 12,000 people a night see in them I don't know......

I saw Kansas open for Bad Company at the old Chicago Stadium. Kansas was awesome, Bad Co. not so awesome. Sound system, off night, whatever...we left after 3 songs and they were the reason we went.
The only time I ever walked out on a concert.

Re: Gigs you walked out of..and why

Someone posted this topic a few years ago...I cant remember what I put  down, but Bob Dylan comes to mind....he opened for Santana about 10 years ago here in Sacramento, he was so stoned or drunk that people were booing him, I went to the beer booth after 2 of his songs he was so bad....I've walked out on some local bands, most of the time is was the mix more than the bands problem

Amy Whinehouse - cos she a silly #@$@# who stole my ticket money and spent in huge amounts of cocain which she snorted just before I walked out with my family. Might have stuck around if I had decent camera though......

Re: Gigs you walked out of..and why

This is funny.  It was my gig.  I was paying the guy.  IT was my money.

I walked out on Coco Montoya.  He had chastised some ladies for talking during his guitar solo, from stage.  He got on the mic and chastised them.

Then he yelled at the stage manager about getting him a private place at the bar, but he was not going to sign anything, and wanted to be alone.

So I left, and told them to call me when it was done, and I would come back and pay him.

Re: Gigs you walked out of..and why

I wasn't there, but here's one of Nickelback walking off stage. Why? They had rocks tossed at them.

Don't get me wrong, I think Nickelback is not great... but throwing rocks at them is downright evil.

Re: Gigs you walked out of..and why

Hey I like that. A whole new angle to the thread. Gigs the band walked out of and why!

LOL when I saw that. Sorry for Nickelback tho. I don't dislike them. As for chucking stuff at an artist that is completely out of order. Although I guess Tom Jones didn't mind the knickers too much smile

Motorhead... It was soooo loud it was painful and I was tired of the plaster smell and taste in my nose and throat. Yes, the old theatre walls and ceilings were crumbling!!!!:(

I knew it wasn't all that long ago since we did this, though I suspect it was before you joined up, Mike.

Story of my life George. Late to the table again. You Bonametallers, you've been there, done that, worn the T-shirt and sold it on e-bay wink

Liked the Feat story though. Poor Doobies, read like they got the short straw. But I saw LF at Charlton FC on The Who bill and they suffered a similar experience. They had to follow the Outlaws, who were completely new to me at the time, and the 'Guitar Army' had completely blitzed us. LF found it very difficult to pick up the crowd after that.

Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Re: Gigs you walked out of..and why

she kept going off halfway through a song and coming back more and more stoned. It take long for half the 5000 audience to leave. I was ina great place for heckling her (I was livid by now anyway). She told me to f -off or she will get her boyfriend to me. My reply was that the crowd would have more entertainment watching me slap him around the stage than her joke of an act. It had not cost so much it would be histerical.
She has been gifted a wonderful voice but has totally lost the plot, such a shame.

Re: Gigs you walked out of..and why

I walked out of a Nugent concert in 77 or 78 at Boston Gardens. Can't tell you why lol or I won't here roll but I did go back in about a half hour later. cool

There was a thread similar to this awhile ago where I explained that my ex walked out of a Allmann Bros show. I stayed for the entire 5 hour jam. big_smile Dickie was in fine form that night! cool Very cool show for sure!!

Re: Gigs you walked out of..and why

Walked out about halfway through a Johnny Winter gig cause I was physically spent after the opening act.  Mott the Hoople's electrifying performance was one of the best I ever witnessed.
Also walked out two groups into an all day rock festival, but not because of the music.  Fell victim to two bottles of Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill and ninety degree heat.

I completely forgot about my post on that previous topic:

I saw the lead guy from the Violent Femmes a while back, at Shank Hall (evidently he lives in Milwaukee).
He came out mid show playing a flipping conch shell. I WANTED to leave, but there was some guy named Joe that was due up after him.
Hey Joe, did you hear that guy playing the conch shell that night??

I swear, mid way through this show, the guy comes out and starts blowing a conch shell...some strange sounds coming out.
Not exactly what I'd call musical.

I was there Bill. You forgot to add that he was accompanied by a guy sitting on a wooden box playing the box for percussion (I'm trying to recall did the guy also have wind chimes as part of his percussion too?).

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: Gigs you walked out of..and why

I walked out of the Def Leppard half of the Whitesnake/Def Leppard tour last year in Glasgow. Compared to Whitesnake, DL were incredibly poor. No stage presence!

Hi Bill and Rev. Paul. Sorry for repeating the thread but now you have completely cracked me up:lol:
Could he play the conch and the wind chimes simultaneously? and if he could, how exactly?

If these guys could support Joe, then it gives us all a chance. Maybe we should volunteer our services. Couple of beers and a chili, I guess I could sit on the box and combine wind and percussive noises. Dunno about a solo though.
