A great show again by Joe tonight. He started with Come Together In The Morning by Free, which really is a superb starter.  Joe then announced he would play different versions of some familar songs. The first of these was EC's unplugged version of Layla, then Led Zep's Achilles Last Stand. Other stand out tracks included Four Day Creep by Humble Pie, a very funky version of Mannish Boy by Muddy from the 1960s, and Born On The Wrong Side of Time by Taste.  The last songs were Whitesnake's live versions of Burn and Stormbringer. Again though not too much from modern acts, except Queens Of The Stone Age.  I know it's churlish to complain when such great music was on offer, but it would be nice to hear a tune or two from Joe's peers. He know himself how hard it is to get played on the radio...

I enjoyed Joe's show tonight - take your point Duncan, but as we know, Joe is touring heavily at the moment, so perhaps that limits what we get to hear on the show.

I'm getting a little annoyed with the Gary Moore show on PR though - yes, the music's great but guess what he did again?
Does it actually pain him to utter the words "Joe Bonamassa" I wonder?
This week he played "Reconsider Baby", but I'm guessing there are a large number of listeners out there still wondering who that was - so they can buy the record perhaps? I thought that was what radio airplay was all about.

I feel an e-mail coming on.........

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Some interestings points raised in the last few posts , "Achilles Lat Stand" by Zep is such a killer stomping tune , Joe could swap that for "Just got paid/Dazed & Confused" for a tour i would be a happy bunny , plus great Humble Pie and Taste track selection
The Gary Moore thing , is he playing games by not announcing Joe's songs or is he waiting for call in's / e- mails for some kind of response , i must add his choices though are class
"Tea For One" and "Reconsider Baby" in current weeks
At least JB is having fun on Planet Rock

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

I missed both shows lately, unfortunately.
Joe does seem to have a lot of fun on PR. He really loves being able to play anything he wants and it's nice to hear him play his own stuff sometimes. Reconsider Baby is one of my fave tracks but did Joe say it was him? I have never heard him give the details of his own tracks on his previous shows. hmm
Seems like Mr Moore is following suit roll
Maybe we should email him if he plays any more of Joe's stuff without giving details, pretending that we have no idea who it is etc. Maybe some people already have.

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Thanks for that list Tripsy, I did not get to hear the show myself (part of my brain was telling me it was still Monday!)

Looks like a good list, Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues would be a great cover version! smile

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Not surprisingly, Joe was not on his usual Tuesday slot on Planet Rock on 5th May. The show is normally repeated on Saturday evenings but for this week I hear that tomorrow’s show will be a special coming from the tour bus where Joe will be joined by Bogie, Rick and Carmine and they’ll all be choosing their faves to play. As this will be the first radio show since the RAH, there’s a pretty good chance Joe will mention it.

It should be a programme not to be missed. It’s a one hour programme starting at 8.00pm BST.

8.00pm BST is:

9.00pm in Europe (except UK, Ireland & Portugal where it's BST)
3.00pm on the East Coast
2.00pm in Chicago
12.00 noon on the West Coast

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

It's on and it sounds like they're having a ball (with a little help from a drink or two lol )

1.     Anton's gets first choice and it's The Great Flood by you know who. big_smile

2.     Kevin's turn now with Highway Star from Purple's Made in Japan album (ah takes me back a few years lol )

3.     Robin Trower's Bridge of Sighs chosen by Carmine.

4.     Talk to your daughter from Robben Ford selected by Sean the sax player.

5.     Bogie picks Ten Years Gone from Led Zep - great choice, Bogie. wink

6.     Little Feat with Fat Man in a Bathtub from Rick.

7.     Nice to hear Roy gets a turn. It's George Thorogood's Bad to the Bone for him.

8.     Anton gets a second bite of the cherry and what a pick. Crossroads from the Wheels of Fire live disc. Wasn't the
bloke playing on this at the RAH on Monday? Now what was his name? lol He can play a bit.

9.     Another song from Joe, this time chosen by Joe. Tea For One. big_smile  I'll never tire of hearing this.

If you missed this very amusing prog you will be able to hear it again on Planet Rock's listen again facility, but you may have to wait a day or so.

Hi Chris, yes, it does sound like a riot on the tour bus. It must have been before the RAH gig as they're in Scandinavia now. Also, I don't think they have the full 8 piece band on the current leg of the tour. So it looks like we'll have to wait a bit longer to hear Joe on the radio speaking about his experiences at the RAH. I'm sure the wait will be worth it. wink
