Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Thanks for the full list Bluesdeluxe. Another great but not so eclectic mix from Joe this week. I totally agree about Beck's version of one of my favourite songs. The combination of Max Middleton's superb clanking piano taking the lead, Bob Tench's vocals and Jeff's unmistakable guitar really smoke, as you say. I saw this line up at the Roundhouse in Chalk Farm in 1972 - unforgetable.

I also enjoyed the Albert King and ZZ Top tracks and had a good singalong to Feelin' Alright, which took me back to those Mad Dogs & Englishmen days.  You get something for everyone with Joe's shows. big_smile

Albert King - Don't Burn Down The Bridge

I didn't hear the show, but checked out this song on youtube as I'd not previously known the song was originally recorded by Joe. Cool versiion, although I love Joe's take on it too!

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Well, here's what Joe played today:

Humble Pie - Up Our Sleeves
Luther Allison - Ragged & Dirty
Johnny Winter, James COtton, & Muddy Waters - Dealing With The Devil
Paul Butterfield - Nobody's Fault But Mine
Mike Bloomfield - Further On Up The Road
Roy Buchanan - I'm Evil
Jeff Beck - New Ways/Train Train
Albert King - Playing On Me
John Mayall & The Bluesbreakers - Hideaway
Sting - If I Ever Lose My Faith In You
Jeff Beck & Seal - Manic Depression

Luther Allison, Mike Bloomfield, & Roy Buchanan are great players, yet so underrated!! Sting was a nice surprise to.

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Once again, another awesome show from Joe. Here's what he played last night:

Derek & The Dominoes - Anyday
Jethro Tull - Witches Promise

James Brown - Since You Been Gone
Harry Connick Jr. - Yes We Can Can
The Black Crowes - High Head Blues
Them Crooked Vultures - Bandoliers
Robben Ford - I Just Want To Make Love To You
Peter Gabriel - Come Talk To Me

Loved hearing the Jethro Tull track, nice to hear something other than Aqualung. Robben Ford kicks butt on the guitar!!

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Love Beck's Bolero! Joe can add that to his show repertoire anytime!

I saw Link Wray mentioned in BNation, but I don't see him on the playlist? But, nice set of songs!!

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Cathy, I listened to the show (while I was soaking in the tub) and there wasn't any Link Wray today. I'm not sure but I wondered if the show was a repeat.

bluesdeluxe, thanks for posting the playlist again this week. Yes, you definitely must get some Free albums. I can certainly recommend the Free Live that includes the Fire & Water Joe played. The vinyl LP only had the Corydon show on it but the CD now includes 15 tracks culled from Croydon and Sunderland. I prefer most of the tracks on this CD to the studio originals, then again, I do love live albums. It's currently an absolute steal on Amazon at only £6.70. While you're there you can also pick up some of their other albums, now all with extra tracks.

I think it was a fresh one because he mentioned practicing for the tour at the beginning of the show.

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

Really sorry I missed the show.  That was one killer playlist.  (Not that that's atypical for Joe's show.)

Play like you've worked at it, and don't worry about sounding like your influences.  You can't cheat on them, or your practice, anyway.  If you've worked hard at your skill, your audience will know it.

Thanks Rick. Joe's voice must have been drowned out by my running the bath water. smile

Re: Joe's show on Planet rock

I'll do the honours this week if I may.

18:02 Achilles Last Stand - Led Zeppelin
18:13 Medusa - Trapeze
18:13 The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down - The Band
18:23 Shake My Tree - David Coverdale
18:27 Third Degree - West, Bruce And Laing
18:35 See My Way - Blodwyn Pig
18:40 Bell Bottom Blues - Derek & The Dominoes
18:45 Rhythmeen - ZZ Top
18:49 Night Life - B.B.king
18:54 Railroad Boy - Gov't Mule

Another great rocking playlist this week, although possibly a repeat as I recall Joe saying before that his Dad had been asking him to do a version of See My Way for the last ten years, but Joe couldn't work out how he was going to do it. Not that I'm complaining of course (Joe is v busy at the moment rehearsing for the spring shows), as all these songs are terrific and what a great way to start the show. One of my favourite Zep tracks and some of the best drumming from Bonzo you've ever heard. What incredible power and technique he had.

I mentioned to Mrs W during the first track that in the weeks leading up to the 2009 RAH show Joe played EC's Further on up the Road and we all know what happened next. big_smile It'll be fun trying to work out if any of the tracks Joe plays in the next few weeks are possibilities for this year's gig. Keep those ears wide open. wink
