Topic: Utrecht, Netherlands

Holy Cow!!! George just called so I could hear "Your Funeral My Trial"..he had stepped into the hall and the sound was awesome. Joe was "on fire" for sure. His voice was spot on, the guitar was stellar...all is well in Holland! There really is a new level of JoMo around the band...everything has notched up....Wow!

An extra special day for George..His daughter-in-law in Indiana is in labor, on her birthday, awaiting the arrival of her son!  Blessed be, Cathy

Re: Utrecht, Netherlands

Oh wow. It's too late for anything detailed or sensible, I've got to get to bed, but in short -

I also let Cathy hear Asking around, which was as awesome as every other number.

Joe is evolving before our eyes - he's become more mature, more self-assured, more confident of his voice, happy to experiment with old favorites and change intros and solos - in short, our Joe is blossoming and it's a wonderful sight to behold.

Now I've got to make my sandwiches, shower, and hit the sack......more tomorrow.

Exhausted but wonderfully happy George in Amsterdam signing off.

RIP Iron Man

Rock On and keep the Faith

Re: Utrecht, Netherlands

He everybody,
Just wanted to let everybody know we had a great time last night.
The show was super!!!And just what we wanted.
Like George mentioned the extra's and little differences in the older songs were great and really put something special into these song. Also loved the comeback of " Blues Deluxe" and the new songs were fantastic especially " the Great Flood".
Sound was great and Joe was on fire!!!! smile
They looked good on stage but a little tired. But that's not strange if you take a look at the guys schedule.Setlist was like the other ones in the UK shows.
Felt a bit strange for our dutchies to sit at a gig like this.
You could really feel the music and listen to it very well, but think i prefere to stand.
The interaction with the crowd is better in the smaller venues like Parsdiso etc.
I " felt a little distance" wink sitting row 3 on the left side of the stage.
But to keep it short:
Thanks for the great night Joe& co and see you again in Cologne (can't wait for that).
And hopefully some more gigs next year over here in Holland!!!
Wanted to take some pics, but you weren't allowed to do it (no flahing)and i just brought my little digitale camera with me,the distance was to big to make any good pics with this one.
There were a lot of Pro's who brought there big camera's with them so they made some good ones i guess.Hopefully I can bring a better camera along to germany.
X

Re: Utrecht, Netherlands

Yes indeed the show was FABULOUS with some new songs as well. Joe was on fire!!
Great to meet Andre, Johan, Rudi, Amsterhammer, Marianne , ... although it was a short meeting but I'm quite sure there will come more possibilities soon.

I was allowed to take pictures ... but officially only during the first three songs. However a security guy warned me already in the middle of song three :-(
Anyway I just checked my photos quickly before go off to work and can tell you there are some pretty good ones ... will publish a photo report later this weekend at www.bluesmagazine.nl

Andre & Johan, I hope you still have plans to write a review of the show for BlueMagazine.nl?
Anymore Dutch reviews can be sent to me as well for publishing on BluesMagazine.nl

All the very best from Holland,
Marco.

Re: Utrecht, Netherlands

That sounds just like everything was how it´s supposed to be!! I´m very happy to hear that you all had such a great time last night smile

And first time sitting at a Joe show ... hmmm - I can understand you felt "a little distance" Marianne wink - but I think Cologne should not be seated, so we can stand in the first row together and cheer our hearts out ... smile

Yippie!! smile

Re: Utrecht, Netherlands

Yes you are right Eva.
Please keep in contact (you got my e-mail) so we can meet up before the show in Cologne.
Can't wait!!!

Re: Utrecht, Netherlands

Hello my Bonafriends,

George, Marianne and Marco are so right!!! It was a memorable night again. I'll do a short review and a bigger one in the www.bluesmagazine.nl too.
I made some pictures too and will send them to Marco to put on this item this weekend.

First the show.

It was great, boys were really hot and Joe is becoming a real entertainer not just the brilliant guitarplayer who can sing as well. He walks around the stage, makes jokes with the band, laughs at the people, talks to them etc. Much more a complete performer than some years ago.
A Pro!!
He moved much more, maybe because he lost much weight. He looked very good and alive, even swinging sometimes!!!! Rick gained some hair and Bogie and Carmine ...just as nice as always!
Sound was good, but in the beginning you couldn't hear Ricks playing very good, too soft. Was better the second part. I was at row 4 right in front of the stage , maybe the sound was different at the side or in the back.

Setlist:

Ballad of John Henry.
From the coming album great, heavy riffs, powerful song. A hammer!

Bridge to better Days.
Good as always, just a brilliant song, keyboards Rick outstanding, jazzy, rocky.

So many roads.
That sound says all.

Mountain time
Joe's classic. First some India and that went into Mountain Time. Different from the Rockpalastshow but great as ever.

Another kind of love
Rocky, rocky, rocky. Can't sit still, must move feet and hands! Great rythm, great solo.

Sloe Gin.
One of the best intros I´ve EVER heard in my life. Heard this song 4 or 5 times live before but what Joe did now. I was petrified! That was so beautiful, so intense. Like George said too.TEARS IN MY EYES!!! Only that intro and the rest of the song were worth the money!

The Great Flood
New song from the upcoming album. A bluesdiamond. Very powerful intense singing .A surprising  song. Could be a second Blues de Luxe in the future and that is a great, great compliment!

Your Funeral My Trial.
Rocky, fast song between the 2 bluessongs. You all know the song, but here it was even better!!!

BLUES THE LUXE,
Yes in capital letters: It´s back, one of my all time Joe favourites. Don´t talk about it, just feel it. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Woke up Dreaming.
He played it like he did on the NSJF. Need to say more....Only the end , the old blueslick was shorter.

Just got Paid.
Power, power, power. I saw ZZ Top play it live this summer, very good but what Joe does with this song. Unbelievable! Great , fullbodied sound too.

The encores

One of these days.
Great acoustic playing again, good short, rocky rythm.

Last song
Asking around for you.
Just goose/flesh. Brillaint singing and playing.

Resume
This was my 17th Joe show and one of the best.
Joes performing was better, the band was tight and most important . They played the wellknown songs totally different and the 2 new songs are hammers!

THIS BANDS SETS UP THE STANDARDS FOR ALL THE OTHER BLUESBANS AROUND.

THIS SHOW WAS A MASTERCLASS IN MUSIC!!

The show is so varying, diversified.
You hear rock, acoustic, slide, great singing, jazz, even funk, easy blues, powerful blues, hardrock.
Joe and band are just as varying as my one time all music heros FRANK ZAPPA and LITTLE FEAT. They all play in the same League.....  THE BEST!!!!!

PS: I know I´m not objective but I´ve seen 1000s of bands in my life, all styles, all kind of musicianship but I know I´m right!!

Joe, Carmine, Rick, Bogie, Dave, Harry I´m proud of you all and you can be proud of yourself too.
It´s so awesome  to see what I predicted 5 years ago has come true YOU ARE  THE BEST and that you gaine the succes you deserve now.

Thanks for this historical evening. All people I spoke after the show did agree!!

Re: Utrecht, Netherlands

Nice reviews everybody!  Sounds like another stellar performance, and it is amazing how Joe and company just keeps on getting better and better!

Music is good for the Soul...

Re: Utrecht, Netherlands

Hi to all our Dutch Bonabuddies who had such a great time in Utrecht.
Sounds like the Boss is on fine form, thank goodness. It takes more than a virus to keep our Joe down.
Can't wait to hear the new songs and the return of Blues Deluxe, that's one of my faves, on monday.

Tripsy smile

Oh yes, my friend - you ARE right! smile

Can´t wait to meet you all again in Cologne - I really started to miss you guys ... I guess that´s called "Bonabuddy-withdrawal" ...
Not to speak of "Joe-Bonamassa-Band-withdrawal"! wink 2 weeks to go now...!

Re: Utrecht, Netherlands

Great show! Can't add more than that ;-)

The new songs made it hard for me to wait for the new album, especially with what we heared. Sitting down and seeing Joe was new, but as with some new things something I'd do only once! Next time please leave the chairs outside!

Can't wait for the next concert!

To bad that the realy nice black shirts were not in my size. Is there any way to get one in my size (xl)? Can't see them on the site...
