Cathy and I will be driving over as we're staying with my oldest friend 'sarf' of the river where, I'm pretty sure, parking can be arranged and from where we're only a short tube ride from central London.

The Chunnel and the tube will be two more first time experiences for Cathy! I seriously expect her to stumble from one gobsmacking to the next - she won't know what hit her. big_smile

For anyone curious about the Passport situation. I made application last Friday at a post office where they accept them and received them today. So much for worrying about getting them in time. I guess they have the bugs worked out of the system.

Re: Royal Albert Hall May 4th 2009

Does anybody know if Joe plans any more uk dates around that time?

I'm anxiously waiting for the tour schedule to fill in around the RAH show. I suspect this could influence my travel plans and whether I add a week before or a week after.

Just a thought..If there are enough people involved, it might be smart to looking into renting a home/townhouse....I googled vacation rentals London England and saw the were lots of sites. I've had friends do this before and in the long run it was cheaper than a hotel. Cathy

Cathy,
Sounds like it could be a good idea. I suppose there would be some logistics to work out, such as location, size/number, number of nights, etc., but those are just details.
I'm all for saving a few bucks on this trip if I can.

Re: Royal Albert Hall May 4th 2009

Yeah Cathy's right , Hotels are quite expensive anywhere near and around Kensington area which covers RAH , and obviously the further you go out from central London the Cheaper , but there are some unsavoury boroughs further out , so unless your gonna stay in central London averaging around £100 a night ( thats $160 abouts) Renting is a better idea pricewise and you can get some good large apartments for value
A Site that i know friends have used in the past is   findaproperty.com it covers all London  , but you want Central London and Recommend The Leafy Smart Suburbs of Notting Hill , Kensington , South Kensington , Knightbridge , Westminster , And My 2 Favourites Because of Price and Large Townhouses .... Earls Court And Pimlico ..... This is an Excellent site as you can pick price over quantity of bedrooms or area
This will give you an idea of whats available , Happy Browsing @      findaproperty.com

Re: Royal Albert Hall May 4th 2009

As we only stay can one night Ive already booked a hotel, didn't want to be late. Booked the hotel London Kensington near the RAH and Earl's Court Underground station. Ges adviced it, THANKS GES!!! 102 pounds all in with twin beds, double room. I think you won't get it cheaper in the centre.
Phoned Eva she might be staying there too with her parents, she decides today I think.

Re: Royal Albert Hall May 4th 2009

I have used Hotwire.com for booking in the States with great success.  The catch is that you have pay at booking and you don't know what hotel you are staying at until you book. However, there is a star rating, 1 to 5 with 5 being the best and they give you a choice of what part of the city you want to book.  There is another website call http://www.betterbidding.com/ and you can generally find out what hotel is being recommended.  Typically I have saved over half of the regular online rate.  So if you want to stay in a hotel and know what part of town you want to stay, which is very important in London, then this might be an alternative choice for some.

Just booked a room there for the weekend - price and location look good.  Thanks, Andre!

Re: Royal Albert Hall May 4th 2009

We have our tickets booked (managed to get in the stalls) and have also booked for 3 nights in a hotel in Bayswater on my other half's advice.  We can't wait to see Joe again.  Saw him at Manchester Academy last Monday and left just wanting to go and see him again.  This was the third time this year and each time we go we take somebody new who are just as blown away by him as we are and always go back again.  Hopefully he will be playing somewhere near us when he comes over in May.  Thought we would get chatting on the site now and hopefully meet up with some of you when you come from all these far flung places.  We already have friends in America and Europe from going to the Rory Gallagher tribute festival in Ireland each year.

Yes, we´re also planning to stay there ... but a house full of Bonabuddies would be a great alternative to say the least! lol

I think we´ll decide during the next week ... I´ll also check out Michael´s links tomorrow if I´ve got time. Michael, why can´t we all stay at YOUR house, hm?! wink Just kidding of course!!

Re: Royal Albert Hall May 4th 2009

Managed to get two rooms for Sunday and Monday night in a Travel Lodge in Covent Garden for £59 per room, with parking at just £15 per 24 hours. Which seems pretty good value to me, not far from Soho, so is pretty central. Travel lodge are pretty basic but clean as they are part of a huge pub chain.

Re: Royal Albert Hall May 4th 2009

Yea, I booked into the London Marylebone Travelodge. En-suite twin or double bed for just £29 for that Monday night (non refundable in case of cancellation) But at that price who cares. Also full English breakfast available with 10% discount on line at £6.50 a head.
£42 all in, room and breakfast for 2 in a hotel just 1.6 miles away from the venue is pretty impressive. I know that Travelodge is cheap and cheerful, but they are always clean and presentable. They had several rooms available at the time I booked them last night. Would be nice to meet up with some BonaFans if they are staying at this Hotel. Let me know if you'll be there.

Kind Regards

Gary
