Re: Bad For You Baby Gary Moore

Just my opinion, but I think these pop shots at Gary Moore are pretty lame.  Joe considers Gary a friend so I think it's time to lay off.

Re: Bad For You Baby Gary Moore

Which side of the fence do I choose ?

When I collected my tickets for Joe's upcoming show in Wolverhampton I noticed GM was at the same venue the week after Joe, so having always been impressed by his work (but not necesarily a "fan") I took the plunge and got a couple of tickets, then bought the album, and then bought Guitarist magazine with that interview.
So I now have Gary sandwiched between two Joe gigs

The album's ok, but having bought three other blues rock albums around the same time, I find myself playing it the least - and his words about Joe have no bearing on that. What I must say if I'm honest is that I think his voice is the worst I've heard it - and that, more that his excellent guitar playing, is keeping him off my CD player. (Anyone heard chalk squeaking on a blackboard - know what I mean?)

BigJeff - have you been sending him your salsa?

Pop shots? Methink that could be a Freudian slip wink

Greenose, I've made my thoughts on Gary Moore clear on here way way back so I won't go there again (I promised) but feel free to email me about it if you want. However, I'll give the occasional fun-based poke in his direction now and then...I think it doesn't hurt to treat the old curmudgeon with a little thumb-to-the-nose from time to time......Joe's friend or not wink

Re: Bad For You Baby Gary Moore

Bugger, this is going to come across as though I'm just trying to be negative but honestly I'm not. Is he using a Line 6 amp?.....sounds like it. And if this was in my local pub I think I'd have finished my drink and left before the end of the song. I've heard Gary do far far better than this (and I don't like what he does so that's saying something) so I assume he was having an off night. I really wanted to watch this and be able to say 'sorry, I've been wrong all this time' but....didn't happen. I wish it did.

See, I can be fair too tongue

I am in same in the same boat, I have seen Gary a few times but not by choice. I dont know what it is but he just does not do it for me. His CD is in my car and I have to make the effort to play it. I too am seeing him at wolves civic as my lad is nuts on him. I would soone go to Joes Cardiff  gig.
Gary is without doubt a talented guitarist but it dont happen for me when I see him. Hopefully his gig may change my mind:) Beats sitting at home doing nuffin.:)

Re: Bad For You Baby Gary Moore

To be fair, a tribute gig, one song, plugging into whatever is available and of course no soundcheck..... I know that was how this event went down.

Re: Bad For You Baby Gary Moore

But I've seen other people do a song or two at a tribute gig and get it right. And it was rehearsed so plenty of time to get it right too.

Re: Bad For You Baby Gary Moore

You are right, that usually is the case but on this night (at least according to my sources) there was a one time run through back stage no afternoon sound check run through.

Gary's vocals do need to go though. Particularly live......

This was the Jim Capaldi tribute? No rehearsal?

There was, but not for GM, not sure about the reasons his or theirs? GM's link to Capaldi was tenuous at best; I believe one song on Jim's last album??

Wouldn't mind seeing the Winwood stuff though!!!

I've been meaning to reply to this since I first saw it, but have been hesitant due to strong feelings about Gary Moore mentioned previously here.  I start my reply by saying I've never seen Gary Moore live and can't profess to saying I know him as either a nice guy or not.  All I know about him is through his recorded material and I have to say I'm extremely impressed with both his body of work and his skill as a guitarist.  I'm sorry, but I don't get the petty negative comments about the thin vocals of a now Fifty-seven year singer.  Everyone's entitled to an off night performing - especially at this stage in his career.  I got his new album and maybe it's the magic of digital age, but his voice sounds fine to me.  Did he have a lapse of judgement or make an idiotic comment born out of professional jealousy?  Maybe he did.  But again, if Joe Bonamassa can forgive him, why can't some people here be the better man and follow suit.
I'm gonna waffle now like BluesMan did today about gassing up his car.  True story!  I made a Blues mix recently for a good friend of mine that included samples of all my current favorites.  Guess which song he singled out as exceptional?  Old sourpuss Gary Moore's "Still Got The Blues".  That song is to Blues what "Sweet Home Alabama" is to Southern Rock.
So, finally, is Greenose being unreasonable asking for a buried hatchet?  I think not.
