Topic: Here's a twist..A Marshall pedal???

A lot of guys use Marshalls (Joe included) and like a Dumble type OD pedal to warm things up and OD the front end some more.  The Zen Drive, The Pearl Drive, a Fulltone or a TS808 come to mind (not that the TS808 or TS 9 is ever referd to as a "Dumble" pedal.) Anyway,
I have a Fuchs ODS...the best Dumble type amp available (IMHO).  Is there a pedal to kick in the "Marshall EL34 type sound"??

Re: Here's a twist..A Marshall pedal???

I think the Marshall Guv'nor, Fulltone OCD, and MI Audio Crunch Box are all meant to do just that.

So, maybe one of those would work for you.

A couple more brands you might really want to check out: Barber, Menatone, and Pedalworx.

    Happy hunting!

I'm not much of a pedal guy, but check out the Love Pedals.  Not bad from what I've tried.

Re: Here's a twist..A Marshall pedal???

I use the old school marshall bluesbreaker pedal. The black one with three knobs. Great overdrive for a low price.

Re: Here's a twist..A Marshall pedal???

For some reason, the Fuchs doesn't take to pedals well.  Well let me rephrase that...I've tried a Zen, a Fulltone, and I own the Xotic AC Boost and the Barber Direct Drive ...all great pedals and with the Fuchs they all sound amazing...it's HARD to make the Fuchs sound bad...it's just an amazing amp.  The clean channel on the Fuchs seems to smooth everything out and teh lead channel always sound liek the fuchs lead channel...which is fantastic ...it sounds good but just not the over the top distortion that say Joe gets when he's using the Jubilee and kicks in the Two Rock or Carol Ann.  Think of that but in reverse:)  The closest I get is using an old beat to hell Boss ODD pedal.

For those that haven't tried a Fuchs ODS...do yourself a favor and try one...Sweeeeeet!

Re: Here's a twist..A Marshall pedal???

Dude it's all Joe - no secret special weapon, plus he plays at extremely loud volumes so things tend to break up nice and warm as I'm sure you know.  He is also matching an EL-34 amp with a 6L6 amp (Jubilee with Van Weelden or Two Rock).   As far as a Marshallesque aggressive type overdrive out of a Fuchs is hard because your at 2 ends of the spectrum with the Fuchs being on the Fender/Dumble side and Marsahall all the way on the other end.

I too have a Fuchs ODS and recommend everyone checking one out as well - Simply awesome for what it is meant to do.

Re: Here's a twist..A Marshall pedal???

OH and I do agree - No pedals with this amp.  Its not meant for that IMHO.  Just plug in and it will take you places smile .

Re: Here's a twist..A Marshall pedal???

I've gone through quite a few pedals which were built to give you the marshall sound, incl. Menatone King of the Britains, Fulltone OCD, Marshall Gov'nr (the original), Marshall Blues Breaker 2, Xotic BB+, Himmelstrutz Fetto, Lovepedals and more. What I have left are:

Geekmacdaddy's British Ball Breaker
BJF Dyna Red Distortion (gives you more a JCM800 type sound).

For Bonamassa, I would recommend the British Ball Breaker (BBB). It has worked really well with all my amps, incl. a Two Rock CRS v.1, which can be a bit picky with pedals. The BBB has gain, volume, presence and a tone knob, and works brilliantly through the whole gain range.

For "marshall-in-a-pedal" the BBB is the best bang for bucks (around $200), and sounds brilliant. In fact I consider getting a second for low gain sounds too.

Re: Here's a twist..A Marshall pedal???

Ocean Effects has a pedal called the Rockin Horse.  I've never heard it.  But if its anything like the Pearl Drive or Texas Deuce I am sure it sound fantastic.  They say its a marshall in a box.

I'd try that before Marshall Pedals.  I've had no luck getting any good sounds from Marshall pedals. You have a much nicer amp than I do so maybe they would sound better thru your amp.  I dont know.
