Topic: Question about the Jubilee

I have seen Joe Live twice and he is just one of the most amazing guitarist I have ever seen. Joe, Warren Haynes and Gary Moore being my favoret guitarist of all time. Anyway to the point.

What channel is Joe running is Jubilee? I know its a dumb question but I have a jubilee 2553 model in black the year after they came out. I run it with a 212 marshall 1936 cab with Vintage 30's in it. EL34 winged C tubes and JJ preamp tubes. Play with a Les Paul Studio with and Alnico II in the neck and a Pearly Gates in the bridge. I also use a bad monkey to push the front end some time. But I got to tell mine doesn't even sound close to the full powerfull screaming guitar no matter what I try. It sounds big and round but that marshall crunch isn't there. Sometimes I hear a grainess to the distortion not a smooth tube sound when its cranked up. Hard to explain but it almost sounds like digital clipping. (this is on the Overdrive channel)

So I am wonder if Joe runs his on the clean channel wide open and uses a tube screem to push it more or maybe I am missing something to make this amp come alive

I usually run my settings at Presence 4 bass 8 middle 6 treb 4 gain 4 both volumes at 5 and 25watt setting.

Re: Question about the Jubilee

Joe runs it on the clean channel with volume on 10 and input gain about 6-7.  It is the 100 watt version.  To get it going, he hits a tube screamer.  Remember another amp is always on as well, and they are set to add something to the mix, be it big round bottom end and fendery tone(two Rock), more high end ( the Carol Ann) or mids with crunch(the Cat5). SO I don't think you will get the same tone from a 2553 running at 25 watts and half volume.

Joe may comment here and correct me, but this is how I understand it.

Re: Question about the Jubilee

Thank Don,

I have been thinking about pair the Jub with my 68 Fender bassman, (It needs new tubes and a cap Job first) It still has the orginal tubes it from when my dad played bass in a polka band in the 70's! HA It seems like a lot of people pair the Jub with the other amp.

I think I will try running the amp clean and loud with the band monkey aka cheap tube screemer to push it.

Re: Question about the Jubilee

Thats a great question man - I'd like to hear a video of where Joe goes through each amp indivdually and talks about them, similar to the ones we see on youtube talking about his rig.
