Re: desert island discs

The only time I saw Jimi Hendrix CTA opened for him. I found out recently they toured in 1970 w/ Jimi because he thought Terry Kath was the best guitar player he had ever heard. Terry was very high when he accidently shot himself, but it was with a semi-auto not the gun of choice for Russian Roulette. Very sad loss to the rock music scene, I never thought Chicago was the same. One can only wonder what Jimi and all the other greats that left us too soon would be up to today????????????

Re: desert island discs

I agree with Stu. My 10 desert island cd's have a bit more variety than my top 10 favorites (the way I understand this from reading the initial post is that you get 10 cd's in addition to all of JB's cd's).
In no particular order:

Eagles - Desperado
Steely Dan - Aja
Allman Bros. - Live at Fillmore East
Beatles - Abbey Road
Robin Trower - Bridge of Sighs
SRV - Greatest Hits
Dave Mason - Alone Together
Jethro Tull - Aqualung
Jeff Beck - Blow by Blow
Soundtrack - Phantom of the Opera (no snickering out there...there's some awesome music/vocals on this)

Re: desert island discs

Bill S, I wanna bum from YOU on that island!  About the "Phantom" discs, (hey, I had "The Sound of Music" in my 10, so no snickering from me!) I got the soundtrack to Phantom as a gift about the same time I got my first Joe CD.  I still haven't heard the whole Phantom soundtrack yet!

Great musicians have a language & vocabulary that transcends the usual barriers & touches us on a more primitive , basic & yet complex level....

...I'll always have London in my heart, and in my soul...

Re: desert island discs

Hey Donna..."Phantom" has great music from start to finish, but that's unfair competition when it's up against your first Joe cd!
Side note: I read the book (Phantom of the Opera) and, although captivating, it's one of the goofiest stories I've ever read.

Speaking of soundracks... what about Jesus Christ Superstar? Always loved that. Opens with that awesome overture.

actually it was an accident:
from wikipedia:

"Around 5 p.m. on the evening of January 23, 1978, after a party at roadie Don Johnson's home at 5754 Fallbrook Avenue in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, Kath — being a gun enthusiast — took a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol and began cleaning it. When Johnson yelled from the kitchen for Terry to be careful, Kath removed the magazine to 'prove' that the gun was not loaded, pointed the gun in the air and pulled the trigger. However — in his inebriated state — he forgot that some semi-automatic pistols have a built-in safety feature that prevents the discharge of a chambered round when the magazine is removed (this is why the chamber should always be checked visually). When he reinserted the magazine, Kath put the gun to his temple and pulled the trigger, infamously saying, "Don't worry, it's not loaded", in another attempt to prove that everything was safe. Unfortunately, with the magazine reinserted, the chambered round discharged and killed him — a week shy of his 32nd birthday."

Re: desert island discs

Hi , just funny to see that different ways lead to Joe's music !
So , the 10 albums I selected .............. not the 10 I'm the most listening to at the moment , but I would say the ones that blew me away at the first listening and I still keep in mind ...... and sometimes ( or often) pick back to !

Van Halen   _ Van Halen
Scorpions   _ Blackout
Trust _ Antisocial
Def Leppard  _ Pyromania
Yngwie Malmsteen _ Marching out
Queensryche _ Operation Mindcrime
DLR _ Eat them & smile
Steve Vai  _ Passion & warfare
Uzeb _ Live
Steve Morse _ Stressfest

........ ten , that's it !! ......... but there are so much more ...... lol

Oooh **## ... I just noticed there's "vacuum" between early 90 and that 2005 evening I saw Joe the first time !
