Topic: Buddy Guy & George Thorogood, 8-19-8 Pier 6 Pavillion, Baltimore, MD
It was at a Buddy Guy show that I was turned on to Joe, so there will always be a special connection between them to me. I don't believe in coincidence, so it didn't surprise me that this show was the same night as the release of LFNIP.
While waiting for the show, they play recorded music. 3, yes three JOE songs got played: Bridge to Better Days, Burnin' Hell and Walk In My Shadows. I took the opportunity to tell anybody who would listen who it was and gave them the website, etc. I spread the Bonagospel to anyone that would listen.
Then Buddy Guy came out and gave an incredible performance. I think most of the crowd was there for George, but Buddy made a few thousand new fans! He did 3 songs off of his new album, Skin Deep, including the title track which he said he wrote when he was 9 year old. When he played while walking through the crowd, he actually walked into a Spot-a-Pot for a second. Classic! I was lucky enough to get Buddy to sign an 8x10 I had taken of him last year at a blues festival, and a promotional poster for Skin Deep!!
George Thorogood gave a great show as well playing most of his classics. He was in good voice and seemed to have a nice time. He finished by literally laying on his stomach on the stage and being "picked up" by his guitarist and bass player, a bit like James Brown's old shtick.
If this show is coming to your area, it's a must see!
