Glad you enjoyed the evening barring the seat incident. I wish I knew your chair broke, I was about 1 more getting fallen into away from breaking it the rest of the way over someones ugly head. I was starting to worry about you Jim. It took ya awhile to post your take on the show.  I was starting to think that maybe (you have been known to have some pretty wild after show experiences) something went awry that night with your back or an officer of the law, or maybe even snuck off and tied the knot in the land of sin ???? Never know about you my friend !!! Yeah, Lady Oreo. Im gettin' the vibe that it was best you didnt know her handle at the show. I know you too well ol' buddy. Which leads me to ask...IS ANYONE ALIVE OVER AT THE KWSB FORUM ???? There is not one reply to my post about the show yet. Nor is there one to the previous one about the INDY ribfest. I guess that is why I hang out here. As far as the $50.00 fan club thing goes.... If my memory serves me correctly it was Joe that came over to Jim and I at the Boardman show after the soundcheck with his nitro powered remote control monster truck and cars and started talking about different mechanical aspects of them, and then there was the autograph that Joe more than graciously signed for me when he was done having fun with his toys. That to me my friends is truely the definition of PRICELESS !!!

If I woulda known you were havin' the problem with the drunk, buddy, I'da given you the chair.  It woulda made a good bud-nipper (if anybody starts any sh*t, it'll nip it in the bud...)  As it was, I switched it out with a couple behind me that had an empty seat next to them.....then some poor schmuck sat in it later and fell flat on his @ss.  Oops.....

Darrin, ya never have to worry about me.....hell, I don't!!  I always have a blast, even when there's cops involved!  There was that bastid in Amsterdam, Ohio that gave me the ticket, but then again, they're still waitin' on their money.....

Karen and I went over to the Southside afterwards, lookin' for a decent blues bar, but came up empty.  I can't understand it.....the Southside is a perfect spot for a full-tilt blues bar, even though the younger crowd from Pitt have pretty much turned it into a hip hop haven.  If and when I hit the lottery, I'm gonna open one.....

We settled on a joint called "Paparazzi", which had a decent cover band.  Sherri Richards stopped in, and there was this black cat with a trumpet that walked in off the street that made it a good time.  But it paled in comparison to the show we just saw.....

<<or maybe even snuck off and tied the knot in the land of sin ????>>

Bite yer tongue, Darrin.....I don't do knots no mo'.....

We drove back to Wheeling that night, and I stayed until this morning.  Just another leg on the Summer of Love Tour.....

You're right on about Joe, buddy.....and that's probably why I was so offended by KWS autograph policy.  It wasn't a matter of Joe taking the time to sign an autograph, he was hangin', like an old friend.  And yes, that IS priceless.....something I'll never forget.  And after the show, he stayed and signed and talked and hung out.....like a friend.  To me, that's every bit as important as what he does on stage.  Not that I'm thinkin' like a groupie, but it just shows the amount of character Joe has, and the fact that he can remain humble while taking the world by storm simply amazes me.....

<<Yeah, Lady Oreo. Im gettin' the vibe that it was best you didnt know her handle at the show. I know you too well ol' buddy.>>

Am I that transparent??  Damn shame though.....there's a great line there.....

also people have told me that Kenny comes out at the bus after shows sometimes.

I tried looking for the bus after the show, Jane, but couldn't find it, let alone get to it.  The woman I was with simply fell in love with him (I can't understand why!) and wanted his autograph.....bad.  I also had a tough time convincing her that Joe was better.....but I'll let Joe do that convincing the first time she sees him.....

A rib fest is a BIG barbeque.....with a bunch of different vendors selling their BBQ'd ribs, pulled pork sandwiches, brisket, and just about anything else you can cook on an open flame and put BBQ sauce on.  And they take it very seriously.....traveling to festivals all over the country, and competing for cash, trophies, and bragging rights.  I never considered it an American phenomenon, but I guess maybe it is??  I have, however, seen Jamie Oliver do some BBQin' on the Food Network.....as well as Nigella Lawson.  But I can never seem to stay focused on what she's cookin'.....

Sounds like a good idea, I suspect you we don't quite have the weather for it here in Scotland smile

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

Kenny Wayne Shepherd is an amazing guitar player, and has put out some great songs. I don't want to see this forum turn into an other artist bash fest. He ain't as good as Joe! Look, Joe is so amazing, you don't have to tell people that he is better than others. His guitar playing speaks for itself. Don't cheapen it by taking down other artists.

I can't wait to see KWS band again. I'll go back and edit this if I see something when i re-read this thread but I want to hear more about the rest of the band. Was it Scott Nelson on bass? Keyboards?
thanks

Actually, Jane, it wasn't like I was makin' a big deal about it.  I had on my JB t-shirt, and Karen sez to me "You can't tell me your Joe is better than Kenny Wayne Shepherd."  And I said "Sure I can.....because it's the truth....."  I wasn't bad mouthin' Kenny Wayne, I was just bein' honest.  But like they say.....there's no accounting for taste.....

I loved his show.....the band was spot on, Noah's vocals were perfect, and Kenny Wayne was blisteringly hot.  But I had just seen Joe a week earlier in Youngstown, and it was easy for me to make the comparison.  Joe's at another level.....

I'm not very familiar with the band, so maybe Darrin can tell you about the bassist and keyboard.  All I know is the bass player was from Austin, and is the same guy in the youTube clip you posted.  Nice clip, btw!!  The keyboard player I know nothing about, other than he was good.....I didn't see him in the clip, though.....

Re: Kenny Wayne Shepherd

btw, I checked out the KWS Fan Club info.  It's not quite as steep as what I was told, but it's bad enough.  In order to get to meet him at a show, you need the Platinum II level, and it's 40 bucks, plus a 15 buck renewal.

And at the Gold level, you get a signed 8 X 10 glossy and a freakin' guitar pic for $20.....and then another 20 to renew it after a year.....woo hoo.....

Still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.....

I agree completely Deeze, and my intention was not to bash Kenny Wayne Shepherd.....I've said more than once in this thread what a great guitar player he is.  My only beef is that you have to pay a fee to get an autograph, and I don't think that's taking KWS down.....like I said initially, it might be a management decision.....

But I also think it's a perfectly good topic of conversation in here, if for no other reason than to show how lucky we all are that Joe is the way he is.....

Oh yes, I've always disagreed with that. It's just that's one thing I don't want to see this forum turn into. Just safeguarding, if you will.

Yep, Jane, Scott Nelson, from Austin, TX on bass, and Riley Osbourne, also from Austin, TX on keys, along w/ Chris Layton on drums, as SRV said...from...yes, Austin, TX.   The band sounded great!  Kenny was....Kenny!  Noah's vocals were HOT!   Nothing at all played from the 2 newest releases.   It was all the bluesy, Shame- Shamey, Deja Voody really great tunes from Ledbetter Heights, Trouble Is and Live On.   Kenny talked a little to the audience about the Ten Days Out project and how cool it was to make.  He also claimed that the Colts were his favorite football team!  I thought he musta just been schmoozin' the crowd w/ that admission!

Hey Bonametal, what's your take on Kenny being the MC of the Guitar Center Blues Comp. in Hollywood and all those other guitar slingers playing with Joe, but Kenny was MIA?
