Topic: Turning Stone show

Alright, for all the people who like to look at their watches during the show, it was an hour and 45 minutes - yes!
The extended acoustic set was mesmerizing: Miss You, Hate, You, Woke Up Dreaming and something similar to Faux Mantini.
Lastly, the ZZTop/Zeppelin tribute was out of this world. If anyone can do justice to the greats; Joe can.
Here's the setlist as best as I can remember:
Takin' the Hit, Walk in My Shadows, So Many Roads, Blues Deluxe, Miss You, Hate You, Woke Up Dreaming, Mtn Time, ANDY, The River, Burning Hell.
Encore: Asking Around for You and the ZZ Top/Zeppelin tribute.
Oh, does anyone know what that little ditty is that Joe plays right at the beginning before Takin' the Hit? It's a cover of something. Just couldn't place it.
Thanks for your music, Joe.

Regarding the Turning Stone Show......Sogs asked that I post this for him...lasts nights show was so great...that it left him somewhat incompasitated. Sogs is currently in the fetal position, sucking his thumb, dressed in his footy pajamas...Johnsons baby shampoo on his head...and he keeps crying out for his mama....

Seriously....great great great great show last night. It was really nice to meet Tara, Rocket, Fotopete, Willow and friend...Joe's Mom (what a sweetheart) and Joe of course. Had a great time ! Looking forward to seeing how your "foto's turn out fotopete !!!

Re: Turning Stone show

Sogs, great to meet you and your friend (sorry, name slips my mind...suffering from CRS).  Lets see who else...Rocket, John and his wife...Ben and his girl.  And of course Mr. and Mrs. B.  Larry G., where were you?  You were missed by many.

Great show!  Good turnout.  Did not seem that loud...perhaps a requirement from the venue.

Fotopete let me use his camera (thanks)!  I also got to use the monster lens.

Re: Turning Stone show

I noticed that too, Tara. The sound wasn't that loud. Can't wait to see the pics. Did you notice any tapers? I didn't.

Re: Turning Stone show

Not just another great show, a stellar occasion!  This is becoming a homecoming "Joefest" annually that does not fail to be exciting from buildup to wind down... Pete you take great photos and Tara looks good (and does great too) with the big one by her side! Joe's parents, family and friends new and old prove that a buzz is just enjoying being together for any ol' excuse of a reason... Congratulations to Joe, Mark, and Bogie for an outstanding evening of great musicianship and plain skin tingly (PG rated ) fun... Nice to see everyone, WHAT a raucous (not rowdy) crowd. The random comments post show, always one of my favorites parts of a show, even if it had to end (no lie, I saw a stunned man just going "Wow" repeatedly) and the huge line (BIGGER every year) to meet and greet-Joe signing CD's, shirts, posters, pictures, shirts, currency (It's not REALLY all about the money), Mark even giving career pointers to kids... but Bogie where art thou? Also missed  Dennis but stay cool bro. Joe's ego doesn't need much checking when you see him give his aunt a kiss "Visitor" and thank people for their kind comments regarding what is undeniably (wanna debate "Visitor"?!) his HUGE MONSTER talent of which I may confess to a bit of jealousy towards but actually have a much greater thankfulness to God to be able to bear witness once again to and I'll be asking around for him regardless of where I traverse the space time continuum now and eternally!  Yes, Tara it didn't seem that loud (never TOO loud for me), but as I told LB it sounded excellent (kudos to the fader riders), the lights are different every year but always...Stellar! The Spanking was during excepts of "Dazed & Confused" interspersed between the ZZ Top (Rio Grande Mud classic) "Just Got Paid" cut! One word: "WOW"!!!

Tara and Fotopete, enough with the cameras already! I'm officially jealous and one of these days, I will have a camera to compete with those owned by Pierre. Sigh. I'm so very envious. Camera envy is a terrible thing.

Photos are wonderful, as always, and I can't wait to get some of those posters you made up, Pierre. They are worthy of framing.

Re: Turning Stone show

Here's your next camera, fotopete. The first picture is a long range shot but when the picture is enlarged, you can actually see people's faces. Amazing.

Maybe I can write them and request a shoot - how many would like to be at that show and get a wall mural.

Great pics, guys!  Sounds like it was an awesome show.  I can't wait till I get to see Joe next.  Might be a while since he's going to Europe soon.

Rocket, shoot me an email, dude. The address I have for you doesn't work.

Tara, did you happen to notice where that camera was? Huh? Didya? I'll just stand over here, whistling and minding my own business.

Some awesome pics Pete and Tara. The show sounded great too!!!

Re: Turning Stone show

Well... I finally have access to the internet so I can rave about this show.

Eric & Kenny who???  Mark & Bogie were excellent at the Turning Stone!  This show was much better imho than the last couple of TS shows Joe did.  The energy was simply amazing!  "The River" (as well as many other songs) was played with an intensity that was missing with the old band.  Joe's acoustic set was unbelievable!!!  That was the greatest acoustic guitar playing I've ever seen/heard (and I've seen ALOT of Gr8 artists over the years).  This show was one of the best concerts I've ever seen!  I couldn't believe that it ended so soon (it seemed MUCH shorter than the almost 2 hours he played).  Time flies... ya know.

Anyways... Thanx Joe for signing all the stuff.  I've pretty much run out of things for you to sign (and I've collected alot of stuff since discovering you at 12 years old).  Don't worry, nothing ever gets sold ~ given away sometimes, but never sold.

BTW ~ from my location (elbows on stage) the sound was perfect.  Not too loud or too soft.

Thanx for the Gr8 show guys!!!  Can't wait to catch another one now!

Re: Turning Stone show

I remember very clearly last year's Turning Stone show.  It was my fifth time seeing Joe and my ears were still ringing from seeing Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden (among many others) the night before at Ozzfest.  Joe blew them out of the water with his playing and singing, just phenomenal.  When I got back home after that show, it was the first time that I had posted on the forum and now it's over a year later, we have a new album and live DVD, Joe's going back to Europe again, and he has been working his **** off...like usual.  In response to his recent post, he knows who the true fans are.  We are the ones that have bought the albums and can remember how many shows we've been too, not to mention the distance travelled to get there.  My only comment would be that the nay-sayers are the price of fame.  The bigger you get, the more fans you get, but their quality seems to diminish because they like one song or one solo and want everything to be the same.  It's only the true fans that will recognize and respect the talent and effort Joe puts into everything he does.  And can you really think of any other artist who cares as much for their fans as Joe does.  I mean, through his music we have become a family here.  It was really great for me to meet Fotopete, Tara, and Rocket at the show last Thursday, that in itself was just such a cool experience.  So, thank you Joe for all that you do for us, and please rest assured in the fact that you will ALWAYS have a dedicated fan and friend in me...and I think you won my girlfriend over to.

Gotta run to lunch, but I'll finish posting later.

Re: Turning Stone show

The River never lacked any intensity for me with the former band, personally speaking (headbanging smiley here) .

I am glad you had a wonderful time.  Sounds like a quite a show from what I've been reading smile

Re: Turning Stone show

Alright, lunch is over and now it's time for Part II...

...The Turning Stone show this year was incredible!  In my opinion, Joe gets better every time I see him (and #7 is coming up in Burlington, VT this November).  This was a special show for me too because I had been telling my girlfriend, who lives in Clayville, NY (about 10 miles or so from Yorkville) about Joe since we had become friends 2 years ago.  Well, we finally started dating about 2 months ago and I knew I had to take her to the hometown show this summer.  The show got going right on time and Fotopete and Tara can back me on the fact that you can't get anycloser to Joe than where we were sitting...center stage table on Joe's side, the first 2 seats!  My feet were tapping away as soon as he first hit that guitar and because my fretting hand was in Lauren's hand for most of the time, her whole hand quickly became my air guitar fretboard.  When I could peel my eyes away from the stage, I would look at her to try and guage the reaction and I couldn't read one.  This was a big concert too, because if she liked Joe live, then she was going to go with me in Novermber to see him again.  Well, as we were on our way out of the casino I asked the big question..."So, what did you think?"...and she said, "I know it must have looked like I wasn't having much fun, but I was just in awe.  I didn't know you could do that with a guitar!"  Joe has definitely won her over.

The show itself was amazing though!  I mean, an acoustic version of Miss You, Hate You.  And while I can't do them all yet, I thought I knew most guitar tricks.  But the one where Joe goes to the very top of the guitar neck, past the nut and press down on the string the get those different harmonics or whatever it is he gets...I had NEVER seen that one before and if I had my guitar here at work I'd be trying it right now.  The River was suspenseful for me too to watch, because that song is just so great when the rest of the band kicks in and as Joe was going through the first softer verse and Mark and Bogie weren't out on stage yet, I was getting a little anxious.  But they were back just in time to kick my **** with it and didn't let up for the rest of the show really.  And I don't know how many people noticed this, but I loved the medley at the end, but really highlighted it for me when they started covering Gov't Mule...totally made my evening that much greater.  So that's it for now.  In the next 2 weeks or so, I will be writing my first review for the campus newspaper and it's going to be on You & Me, just like I did for Blues Deluxe and Had To Cry Today.  I'll keep you all posted and post the link where you can all read it when it's published.  Thanks to Fotopete, Tara, and Rocket for saying hi and also for the pictures too...and thanks most of all to Joe, Bogie, and Mark...keep it up guys, we love it!

-Ben

Don't get me wrong, I thought the old band rocked (hell, I thought Creamo & Tony were Gr8 too).  Eric is a phenomenal bassist.  And Joe ALWAYS is amazing!!!  The music just sounded better with the new band.  When they were playing "The River" I thought "now this is how this song should REALLY sound."  The new band has my vote.
