Brilliant score of course, but I know Holland too, there is always a big chance that they have an offday

Andre, hopefully Holland will have their (one and only) off day tomorrow against Romania and then it will be bye bye Italy and France! smile
After that though I hope Holland go on and win it!

Oh, Oh! Now who do I root for? I'm half Austrian and one quarter German. Oh well, I'm going with the more stubborn part of myself and am going to root for Germany!

GO GERMANY!!!!

Actually, here's something for all of my German friends rooting for their home team. How about a nice big "G"? big_smile

Oh good grief, Roy! I'm half Austrian!!! big_smile

Therefore, I shall be rooting for Austria even though I don't see them having a snowball's chance in hell of actually winning, while a draw is enough for Germany.

Tut mir leid Eva, aber ich muss bei meinen 'roots' bleiben.

Put on your Orange and get ready to cheer for Holland. Do it for Hammer...he's still in shock after returning to his "real" life. Now, if I could only understand the points??!~!@#$! Cathy

Re: European soccer Championship

All German fans congratulated with the victory!

It wasn't a good game but the result is o.k. for you. The Germans must play a lot better against Portugal in the quarter final or they are out!!

I hope they do.

Tonight Holland but as I just read they changed the team on nine places, the second bests are playing tonight. i think the coach want to spare the first for the quarter final, because we already qualified us.

We'll see what it brings tonight!

Re: European soccer Championship

You´re absoltely right Andre - our boys will have to wake up if they want to have the slightest chance against Portugal ... I really hope they will!

Unfortunately they only show the Italy-France game on TV here (World Cup final #2 wink) - and I wanted to see the Dutch play ... but as you said: they´re already qualified. I´ll cheer for them anyway wink.

Holland B isn't too bad either. Next game is Saturday against Sweden or Russia, which will be decided tomorrow. Before the tournament started I didn't expect Holland to survive this group. Now I really don't know how far they can go. Whatever happens, it's already been great!

Congratulations to all those flying Dutchmen (and women) here, your boys and the fans did you proud again. Their current form suggests they could certainly go all the way to the final whichever team they field. smile

The quarter-finals, all kickoffs 20:45 CET -

Thursday - Portugal - Germany

Friday - Croatia - Turkey

Saturday - Holland - Russia

Sunday - Spain - Italy

We could be in for some cracking games here!

Re: European soccer Championship

Holland Russia could be a beaut to watch, wouldnt want to be a fan of either team watching that one, but as a nuetral it is going to be good to watch, could be 5-4 to whatever team. Certainly the 2 teams that play the game I want to see it played. Attack attack attack, nothing better.

Spain - Italy could be drab very drab, 0-0 and penalties is a very likely occurence for me smile

Croatia - Turkey will be a good game, the 2 teams with the most heart playing each other, this one could get ugly because of the commitment of both sides, might be 9 v 9 at the end. Cant fault either team here, shame they had to meet each other now, as always nice to see teams that arent traditional powers going well.

Portugal - Germany has the makings of a very good game also, think on performances Portugal have the edge, but as history has shown time and time again, write off Germany at your peril.

Is a great lineup and I think the best teams have got through to the QF, which is always good for a competition. Realistically any of the 8 can win it all.

Re: European soccer Championship

Like most of us over here who think that we know something about football, I thought that Portugal would win this game. Just goes to show....

We're expecting to see a super-motivated Dutch team on Saturday as a result of a personal tragedy yesterday: defender Boulahrouz's wife gave birth yesterday to a premature baby girl who died shortly thereafter. The player has said that he wants to stay with the group and play on Saturday. Whether he plays or not, I expect the team to try extra hard for him and I expect emotional scenes when a goal is scored. This tragedy adds an extra dimension to an already unusual game, because the Russian manager is also Dutch!

Re: European soccer Championship

Woooohooooo !!!!!!!

I can´t believe it - we WON 3:2 !! Oh my god - that was such a great game, I nearly died when the Portuguese shot that 2:3 against us and it was only 5 more minutes to play ... I couldn´t look at the screen anymore!

We jumped on the motorbike with the German flag right after the game, drove to the city center and honked and screamed like crazy - as if we had won the final or something lol ... everybody was out there celebrating, because we all though that we´d be out against Portugal.
But the German guys just played at their best (and pretty fair most of the time) - I hope they continue like that.

And thanks to dear Andre, who kept his fingers crossed for us - we talked on the phone shortly before the game and he told me that he´d cheer for Germany. Thanks Andre, will cheer for Holland on Saturday of course! smile

Happy Eva
