Topic: Six Word Memoirs

I recently read an article in the local paper about a former hometown boy who is now a writer and editor of all things literary, now living in NY and has a book on the NY Times best seller list.  Its called, "Six Word Memoirs" by famous and obscure writers.  Some refer to it as American Hakiu.

Some quotes from famous and not so famous...

Weight up! Weight down! Income rises!   Oprah

Sixth sense for suspense is slipping.  M. Knight Shyamalan

Turned thin wires into fat fortune.  Comcast founder, Ralph Roberts

Left Today for tonight; bad move.  Katie Couric

He couldn't govern his darker impulses. Former NY Gov. Elliot Spitzer

Lost teeth, raised Cup, overstayed welcome.  Bobby Clarke, former Flyers manager

Grumpy old soundman needs love, too.

Stole wife, Lost friends, Now happy.

Study mathematics. Marry slut. Sum bad.

My spiritual path is 100 proof.

Married for money. Divorced for love.

Young, skinny, ridiculed.  Old, skinny, envied.

My first concert: Zappa. Explains everything.

Couldn't cope so I wrote songs.

Angry guy gets law license, sues.

Confused Communist child, enlightened American engineer.

I'm tossing around my six words & found the book entertaining. smile  In the intro it says Ernest Hemingway was once challenged to write a story in six words and the six-word story has been popping around the writing world for years.

I think everything that comes to mind involves music lyrics, so I'm a copycat right now... still working but this keeps coming to mind.

Life's a carnival; Balancing act required.

I did think up something for Joe. smile

Mindy,
I hope you don't have poison ivy, I had a mild case once, I detest being itchy!!!  Just this past weekend I heard the most horrid story about a drug reaction that I ever read, heard of or otherwise.  A severe case of posion ivy, a steroid dose pack perscribed...shortly thereafter, but almost immediate...incredible pain in the hips, couldn't even get out of bed....the guy developed avascular neurcroses and one hip could be saved with surgery (a bone graft from somewhere else in his body), but the other hip, he had to have a hip replacement...18 months out of worK!!!  Incredibly bizarre and freak thing, I've taken the dose pack before, they are a miracle drug, but this is why there are all those scary side effects listed...for the rarity.

Yes Geoff - I think you were thinking in terms of syllables (as we MUST in our 'normal' haikus), whereas this process requires six words.

Very nice.

Re: Six Word Memoirs

Yup Angela, I've been itching and scratching but I think the worst is over.  Still nasty looking but it's going away.  Very scary story there...thank God it wasn't that bad for me.
