It's late, I need to head to bed and can't really do justice to what I want to say, so I'll add more tomorrow.
In short, big thanks to Roy and Bill for the reviews, pics and vids. I put on a seat belt before watching Medicine and yes Roy, your favorite pic is a stunner. I'm so pleased that you guys have confirmed for me that she really is as stunning as I thought in every way. Not sure what would have happened to me to find Grace on her knees right in front of me

I'm hoping to catch her in DC in March with Cathy and Bob, if things turn out as I'd like.
I honestly think that the sky is the limit for this woman - to combine such beauty, raw sensuality AND musical talent is just too amazing! It's so wonderful to see that I was not alone in the way I reacted to Grace, and that I'm not the only old guy to have been smitten
Hey Roy,
I think George just called us old guys! LOL

Hey, wait a minute, you're right Bill he did! Oh well, I guess we resemble that remark.
Gee, I'm surprised no one has commented on your Milwaukee video premier on the song "Oasis" that I recorded. I thought for sure by now Hollywood would be calling!
Roy
Old Guys! Hmmph... speak for yourselves, old is just a state of mind. We can still dream, can't we.
Rick
Apologies for any unintended slight caused to you youngsters by referring to you as “old guys” such as me!
I thought it was kind of fitting that y’all enjoyed Grace at Turner Hall, since (in my eyes anyway) she combines in one super multi-talented person attributes of not only the great Tina, but also of original Grace, Blondie, Dolly and, on the acoustic duets, even Emmylou!
I honestly believe that Grace has the potential to become an absolute mega-star, should she wish to go down that particular path. She has the professionalism and stage charisma of Tina Turner, with even better legs! She has the get-down-and-dirty sensuality of Blondie, only she’s better looking. She’s got whatever it is that Grace Slick had that appeals to all of us old hippies, and a voice as sweet as Emmylou’s on duets or acapella. In fact, what has Grace not got in the way of looks or stage presence? On top of all that, there’s the way she plays that Hammond (to die for) and the way she holds that Flying Vee (can I be the guitar for one night please?) On top of all that, she writes wonderful songs too!
I had a look back through this topic to discover that my first contact was in May 08 when, mainly on the recommendation of Angela and Bob (Taurus 52), I first dipped my toe into the pool of Grace’s catalog. I watched a few youtube clips, thought she was pretty hot but most of all, I liked the sound of that Hammond. It wasn’t until Bob gave me two cds of a live show he had taped in DC when we met at HAB in 09 that I really started to get seriously whammied by this woman and her music. I played those two cds for weeks on end and scoured youtube for everything I could find. I stayed in the closet for a while, though I did 'fess up to Cathy..…..but eventually decided that I had to ‘come out’ about this new passion which, I’m sure most of you will agree, I did with no holds barred, bombarding both the forum and FB with links and drooling about her ad nauseum.
There came a point when (look away now, Jeff) I decided that she was even HOTTER than the incredibly lovely Dana Fuchs. The main difference was, and still is, (look away again, Jeff) that I have seen Dana live five times, I have been hugged by her, I have even had a kiss from her, and I have had her sweat drip on me from the stage. Whereas Grace, alas, is still only an image on a screen to me. Hence I am particularly grateful to all of you who have supplied photos and reviews, most especially though my thanks to Sandy for the cds of the show she recently attended.
Here ends, for now, the confession of an old and very smitten Grace lover.
P.S. And after all that I forgot the one question I was curious about - what is the audience demographic like at at Grace show? Younger than a Joe show? Very young?
George - to answer that question about demographics I would say a good mix but leaning more toward twenty-somethings. Lots of older folks like us ( I think probably from the Mule association) and lots of 30-somethings (don't know what pulled them in), but I would say a lot of people there got pulled in by Leno and VH-1. That said, at least at the show I attended which was in Maine, a lot of people there seemed to know a LOT of her older stuff. Grace has toured a lot in this neck of the woods (close to her home state of Vermont), and she has a lot of fans up here who have been following her for years. Her Live from Skowhegan was taped right up the street in Maine. Have you checked out her Forum? Some interesting stuff over there, but drooling is not allowed. I think what finally hooked me was watching her perform with Mule (on a live feed) from Mountain Jam. Her voice just floored me. And as a photographer it is fascinating trying to capture the "essence" of her. For me this picture sums her up at the show that I saw:

Hope you get your chance soon George!
Sandy
I would agree with Sandy, George, regarding the crowd and actually, look no further than Bill, Jamie and I standing front and center. Jamie, being very young, was really into Grace and of course, Bill and I (members of the more mature set, how's that Rick? ) were relatively newcomers. But once that first number got underway and Grace seductively slinked over that front monitor while singing, you could say we then were as smitten as you are. Actually, I looked at Bill and he at me and I think both of our eyebrows went up at the same time as if to say, "Oooohh La La"!
This show was more than just a Rock band doing what they do best, this was Pure Entertainment!
Roy
P.S. Nice picture Sandy of a shoeless Grace!
I happened to find this video of "Paris" while browsing Youtube today. This was taken at Turner Hall in Milwaukee last Saturday night. You'll notice at the beginning of the video Grace, Scott and Cat step over the front monitors and mics and come to the edge of the stage. This is the point where Grace is actually standing over my beer which is on the stage and I had to back up a little, so I wouldn't inadvertently touch her. Jamie and Bill are right next to me and needless to say, we were ROCKIN'!!

Roy,
I have the perfect idea to help you channel some of your Grace inspired energy without looking like your stalking her. Get Grace's guitar strings, Elisa will design you something to hang over your rear view mirror in your car or wear around your neck to keep Grace close to you at ALL times.
Grace is coming to Philly, a standing room only kind of venue, I haven't bought tickets yet, want to talk to someone whose been to the venue. It would definitely make my husband's night.

Angela: I drove from Maryland to TLA last fall or so to see TransAtlantic, a band featuring Mike Portnoy, (ex-)drummer of Dream Theater, as well as some other bright lights in progressive music (Ask me if you want more info).
TLA is an old theater on South St. with the seats torn out which is mostly standing, two levels with a small balcony. If you get there early, you can nab a barstool on the side and get a decent view of the stage. I would strongly recommend buying tickets and checking GPN out. You're not likely to get better return on your entertainment investment dollar, tix are under $25, right?
If I remember correctly, I may have been one of the people to introduce you to Grace, if I wasn't, I seriously intended to, knowing how much you love Bonnie and the fact that Grace's first (?) disc, Nothing But The Water, has a very similar feel. My band actually covers her song 2:22, though we do more of an electrified version in the vein of "Love Me Like A Man", rather than the spare acoustic treatment on the record. People really seem to like it :-)
CarljMD
P.S. I bought tickets to see the show at Club 9:30 in DC in March....looking forward to it!
Hi Carl,
I've been to the TLA, and it is just how you described it. I was totally thrown off by it being listed as Theater of Living Arts, I always called it TLA. We definitely talked Grace before, but Jane is the first one to give me the heads up about her. I don't have Grace's first CD, I am going to get it based on your description. Take care and thanks.

Angela, that thought crossed my mind the other night at the show. I'm sure the jewelry that Elisa would make out of Grace's strings would fly off the shelves! Now, the only problem is getting a message to Grace.
