Topic: Wireless router questions

OK any geeks out there???   I've had Verizon dsl service for the past 7 years and am switching to Comcast next week. Can anyone recommend a wireless router for me. Nothing super duper. Just simple/secure, easy setup.  From what I'm finding on line, prices range from 40 bucks to 200.  I just don't know.   Comcast made me such a sweet deal, can't pass it up.  I went from 70 bucks a month for my hd tv service to 59 for both.    It's amazing what they'll do for you now that they have some competion. They're losing lots of customers now that Verizon has tv service available.   Thanks in advance.

Take care everyone. And if I don't meet you no more in this world

Re: Wireless router questions

Hey Jeff...for a few years I used the Linksys Wireless G and it was ok. Some pros and cons...

My main beef with Linksys was the customer support.  Unfortunately they were outsourced to another country and were at best often difficult to understand...and the average phone call lasted about 30 minutes. yikes  Most of the time I had no problems with it but cringed when I did have to call them.

Set up was one of those long phone calls for me.  I had to call them back  a couple of times to get everything "right".  But once it was right, it worked pretty good.

There's a new Wireless "N" product that's out there, supposed to give better signal strength/range.  I'd look into one of those first.  Here's a review of the Belkin "n" in PC World:

I've got a Belkin router - they're pretty good

"Stellar" a word used by Joe Bonamassa (also apt as a description of the man himself cool)

Re: Wireless router questions

Both of those above are perfect for home use. I have hooked up many of them and they are both very easy to use.  I personally have the linksys in my house and I can use both my laptops and my Iphone with no issues.  Good security also so some jerk can't hack your system (unless they REALLY wanted to)  Decent range with it as well.

Re: Wireless router questions

I have the Linksys G and it's been great. I have 3 computers running and haven't had any problems to speak of.
I occasionally bring home my work laptop and can log on without any problems.

Re: Wireless router questions

Im a network engineer, for the last 6 networks Ive worked on Ive bought these http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductI … tID=451042

I know this is UK etc but im sure there's a US equivalent. Cheap, Secure easy to use...

I personally use a D-Link Access point plugged into my old router. Aslong as you make sure you set the right standards up WPA, mac addressing, restrictive ip's. Theres no reason it should be secure..

But then if someone wanted to get in im sure they'd find away :x

Re: Wireless router questions

Thanks so much for all the responses. I've decided to go the cheapy route for my router. And to think I wasted my 500th post on this thread.  Hey Thanks again.
