Re: Caveman's Diary Update

Swampy sounds good, but not so sure about horns, strings etc. I guess it would be ok on several tracks but hope there's some rootsier stuff too. We had read earlier this year his next album would be "world blues".

With horns, strings etc, I'm wondering if they'll be more than the usual four men on the stage when the band plays at the RAH.  It may be Joe would prefer a live recording with extra musicians on stage.

The statement with the live album is below. Wonder what they mean by recording problem? (maybe its no audible live audience!)

"03/21/08 P- New Joe Bonamassa album cancelled
We need to inform you that due to a recording problem with the live shows we cancel the LIVE ALBUM release as of now.

We are unsure if the live album "From Nowhere in Particular" will be released at a later date but you will be informed if any new developments occur.

Thank you for your understanding."

Re: Caveman's Diary Update

Hey Greennose,

That release about the live album sounds like load of BS to me. Caveman's diary clearly states that he has his copy (as well he should) and is listening to it constantly!

I can understand if there are licensing issues or whatever, but recording issues? The recording has already been done as evidenced by Caveman's statement. The album is done. So what's the issue? Maybe Joe could chime in and let us know. I can't imagine why he wouldn't want to release it, but you never know.

You don't include a link or say where the statement came from. I wonder if the information is true?

It seems to me that a good live album can be a boon to the artist and I can't imagine Joe's live selections not turning out well.

Nothin' but the Blues

Re: Caveman's Diary Update

I wonder if the non release of this live album might have something to do with next years scheduled concert at the RAH. I would certainley anticipate at the very least a live album from there but more likely a dvd(hope so). It also sounds like Joe is scheduling some time in the studio to record  some new material. I think something big is in the works and now might not be the right time to release the live album. I don't know just wonderin...

Re: Caveman's Diary Update

Greenose, I tend to agree with you. I'm not surprised that "live from nowhere in particular" is shelved. Work on that must have started some time before the RAH plans became a reality. My guess is that it will reappear, probably as an Itunes download, some time long after the RAH gig.

Joe has stated that the RAH will be video'd, as it quite rightly should be - afterall, we need to see that fingerwork all around the hall. If they are doing a video for the audience it makes perfect sense for the work to be marketed after the gig. Then why dilute a live album from the Royal Albert Hall, which will undoubtedly include some of the new stuff Joe and Kevina nd the boys will be working on in the coming months, by releasing material that has, how can I put this without upsetting anyone, been on tour for a little while now.

Joe has made some pretty canny, concious decisions lately and the result has seen Sloe Gin in the Blues Chart for 33 weeks, the last tour in the UK sold out and for my money, his direction is absolutely spot on. This time next year Joe IS going to be a household name, certainly in the UK, instead of being the best guitarist you never heard of.

It's my guess that the RAH will surprise all of us, I'd bet money it'll be different, with some Joe standards thrown in of course - but what do I know. Oh and Kevin will have access to masters so he can burn his own copies I suppose!

I included the link, in one of my posts, on page 3 of this thread, but here it is again: http://www.mascotrecords.com/?pv=1
You'll find the other statement if you follow the link.

I don't want to speculate on the reason for the statement, it was just something I found online when searching for more info on the new album.

I'm four-square in the Jane, Phil, Co-elder camp here. I could just about imagine some carefully placed horns here or there, but strings? Nah, no way.

On a live album, I'd only want to hear horns or strings if they were part of the live performance to begin with. I really prefer a minimalist approach to post-production on live albums, tweaking the mix and eq if needed, and that's about it. No punch-ins or fixes, and certainly no add-ons!

But I've not read this whole thread, and maybe it got off the live album topic, and you're talking about studio recordings now? I really don't care for them added to studio records either though, come to think of it. I mean, I love horns in horn bands. Tower of Power, early Chicago and BST. Love that stuff. But as add-ons? I'd rather not...but that's just me.

Re: Caveman's Diary Update

I'm going to stick my neck firmly on the block here and say that none of us....and that mean's all of us....know what the plans for any live album release might be....except for Joe and those that work closest to him. I'm finding that the amount of speculation, conjecture, wishing, hoping and 'I think I know' is dragging on a bit now. Brass on this....strings on that etc etc. Joe know's....we all will too....in good time. Have you heard the hidden message if you play Sloe Gin backwards while you're standing upside down drinking a beer through your left ear at midnight? wink

There seems to be confusion but Caveman was refering to the new studio album when he spoke of strings and horns.

There will be something included in the upcoming Street Team newsletter that will inform us of what is going on with the NIP album release.

Re: Caveman's Diary Update

I think we're all getting a little restless because we haven't heard much in terms of official news lately.  I feel it too, but I also feel really excited because it feels like between the creative stuff going on, the preparations for the new studio album, the buildup to the RAH gig, and Joe meeting EC that the possibilities are endless and things are building to a critical mass.  Although I would like to see the summer schedule fill out a little more and a little quicker, I'm excited like a little kid a month before Christmas.  Patience will be rewarded and I trust in Joe and his taste and judgment.

I didn't say it wasn't ok to speculate. But it seems that some are a little worried here. Again, to them I say TRUST IN JOE.

Re: Caveman's Diary Update

Yeah - more crowd on the live album!

I love the live at shepherds bush and that had loads of crowd, it made it so that you felt you could have been there - as that's the way I love Joe best - up close and personal (as patty would say) I think that's great! smile:):):)      :-)

"Stellar" a word used by Joe Bonamassa (also apt as a description of the man himself cool)

Looking at that picture, I'm glad Joe went with the old style knobs...but, the guitar would also look cool with 4 of the silvery yellow knobs too!
