Re: first gig
I'm sure I've said this before on here somewhere....Eric Clapton, Rainbow Theatre, London, 1973. I was 14 years old and sat six rows from the front. Never have recovered from that experience .

To the best of my recollection I believe my first was actually a battle of the bands at Las Lomas high school in Walnut Creek, Ca. where I grew up. I was about 12 at the time still in Jr. high circa 1966. There were two local bands Beggars Opera and The Virtues who became Country Weather, their lead guitarist was Gregg Douglas who went on to play with Steve Miller and wrote Jungle Love. There were 3 bands from SF there too, Santana Blues Band, The Grateful Dead, and The Jefferson Airplane who I recall were the winners of the battle. Each band played just 2 or 3 songs and then the crowd voted by applauding for their favorite band. I think White Rabbit was already getting some airplay on the radio which gave the Airplane the edge. The crowd didn't respond too favorably to Santana as I recall, their Latino Rock sound was very new to everybody. little did we know how huge they'd become. That's pretty much how it started for me and I've been enjoying the ride ever since. My brain hurts now from thinkin' back that far. The Stepchild mentioned paying $12.50 to see The Allman Bros., we used to pay $3.00 on Thur. & Sun. and $3.50 on Fri. & Sat. to see blockbuster triple headers at The Fillmore West and Winterland in SF back in the late 60's into the 70's.

O.K. I'll bite on this one.
Besides some local bands, my first major concert event was Jimi Hendrix at the Seattle Center Colisium in 1966. I have never forgotten that concert even though much of that time period is pretty hazy.
Pretty young then and I remember my mother had to drive me to the event. I was too young for a license. The ticket was expensive too. About $12 I think. Ahhhh, the good old days........?????????
