But I must point out Monty that I referred to "energy consciousness", which is rather different to per capita oil consumption. Of course, there is room for improvement in 'green thinking and living' everywhere. On the whole though, Europeans are further down that road than most Americans. I really believe that we think more about our use of energy and try to waste less.
Sure, but the main discussion always seems to come back to oil because 1) it's essentially a non-renewable resource, 2) it is dirty and a polutant and 3) it is the primary source of energy for most of the world. Other sources of energy are much cleaner and "greener" and are less of an issue.
And while I'll be the first to admit that the US needs to clean up it's act, all too often I hear people around the world quick to point their finger at the US first when it comes to these things (despite the fact that there are 16 other countries that consume more per capita, and the next 6 or so countries behind the US just BARELY consume less than the US per capita). I just don't think it is a very fair criticism to single out the US like that, which seems to happen frequently.
I'm gonna shut up, though, because this could turn into a political discussion quite quickly. Then I would need to go take a bath because politics makes me feel dirty.
(You're up real early there in Kansas!)
Yup that's what happens when you work graveyard shift.
