Topic: Newbie... recent but total convert!

Hi all smile

I'm Libby and have just joined the forum today. I've posted in the review section about my first JB gig ever in Crewe (23 Feb), and how I came across Joe on the Paul Jones Radio 2 show, but thought I should introduce myself here.

I'm 49 (with 50 approaching wayyy too rapidly) and live in NW England with my partner, but originally hail from the Midlands.

Basically I just love good music and appreciate anyone who is a master of their instrument. So guitar-wise before discovering JB, loved to listen to people like Clapton, Gilmour, Rabin, Howe, Hackett, Page, Liveson, May, Santana and the like.

How on earth I've never managed to come across JB before now I'll never know... maybe simply because I never got into the Blues as a genre. I've got a lot of catching up to do, but know I will relish every minute big_smile

So a big wave to anyone who was at the Crewe gig, and hi to forum members, old and new.

Oh and most importantly a huge bow to the awesome talent and lovely guy that is Joe Bonamassa cool

Re: Newbie... recent but total convert!

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the welcome!

I feel so grateful that I got to see Joe live so soon after hearing him play on UK radio and getting his latest album.

I know he is struggling due to illness, but it didn't detract at all from the power and the passion of his performance; I just didn't want the night to end.

Thanks again,

Hi Libby, Welcome to Joe's forum. Most of us here felt the same way after discovering Joe for the 1st time. It's like, where the heck have I been? How didn't I find out sooner? Congrats on your Bonabaptism. Nothing like seeing him live. He's been sick lately & is having trouble singing because of it. Still put on a great show from the reviews I've seen. This is a cool place to hang out & share your thoughts & experiences. Lots of nice people here and we all share one thing in common. Joe. Once again, welcome.     Pete

Welcome aboard.

Cool rhyming!

Well for a start, it's not like me at all to join internet forums, but this has been akin to a religious conversion! I am henceforth an evangelist for the mighty force that is JB!

As I type I'm re-listening to the Radio 2 show.... just can't get enough! big_smile big_smile

Libby:  Welcome aboard....you sound like many of us did....blown away and wondering where the heck we were that we missed this amazing talent.

To keep you amused/occupied until your next gig, you might want to take a gander at this:

There are probably some folks here (or at BonamassaLive.com) who would be willing to share some of Joe's approved audience recordings with you, in fact, one may yet surface of the gig you attended....stay tuned.

Re: Newbie... recent but total convert!

Hi Libby

Welcome to the forum. I know exactly how you feel after hearing Joe for the first time. I too heard Joe on the Paul Jones show for the first time. The track was 'You Upset Me Baby' which I have heard covered by other people, especially like Gary Moore, but I was so excited I just went straight to the computer and typed in his name. Then I went to You Tube and watched him performing 'You Upset Me Baby'. I was totally blown away. I too thought 'how have I not heard of this incredible guy before'. I quickly got everything available by him. The first album I heard was Blues Deluxe which is still my favourite closely followed by A New Day Yesterday. Oh hell I just love 'em all. There are two new albums to look forward to this year, one live and one studio. Can't wait.

Don't worry about the age thing. I'm not far behind you but listening to great music and going to gigs keeps me feeling like a teenager.

All the best Tripsy

Welcome to the forum Libby!  Oh that always feels so weird, addressing someone else by MY name!  There aren't many of us, you know!  I think I was a teenager before I met another one!

I'm glad you found the forum, but, more particularly, am so happy that you found Joe.  Indeed, he is AWESOME.  He will keep you young, for sure!!!  Enjoy your time here - you're in good company.  smile

I know that Joe could play one of those kid's guitars with the plastic strings and make it sound good-

Welcome Libby, Like you I too was at Crewe, we had a ball that night. Joe was so pissed off with himself, but he gave his all, which is way better than most can give when they are 100%. I know exactly how you are feeling, having "discovered" Joe, I'm still the same after 2 years!!!

Re: Newbie... recent but total convert!

Hi Tripsy,

Thanks for the welcome..... I am thoroughly enjoying the JB love-in!

I wonder if Paul Jones realises what he's started by having Joe & his band on his show!!

The strange thing is we don't tend to tune into Blues shows, having previously more been fans of the rock & prog-rock genres.... but I'm SO glad we did!

It's nice to find someone so young as Joe to support... most of the other bands/performers we go to see are drawing their pensions!

Hi Libby smile

Thanks so much for your welcome... I noticed when I joined that there was already a "Libby" which is why I chose the nic' I did.

I'll be going to gigs as long as I can.... probably with my zimmer frame & hearing aid... although I think it'll be a while until I need the latter with Joe around!

Hi shad,

Yayyyy someone else who was at Crewe!

Mountain time is absolutely AWESOME... the solo is so utterly moving... and my introduction to Gigliotti guitars! What an amazing sound Joe gets.

Planet Rock is our favourite radio station... but of course threatened with closure sad Have you signed up on www.saveplanetrock.co.uk?

Hi stevea,

No I agree, there was life before Joe, and NOW!!!!! big_smile

Ok well I am originally from Coventry (I guess someone has to be), later Brum, and now near Crewe.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks... and if that was Joe not able to give 100% I can't begin to imagine what he'd be like on top form!!

And hope you get that pass for Newcastle, your pictures are wonderful.
