Re: The Weather!

Just for the record, not all Londoners are Cockneys. There's a church in the City of London (the square mile) near Cheapside. You have to be born within the sound of its bells (Bow Bells) to actually be a Cockney.....I was born within ear shot so I am. As for Septic Tank being slang....that's a new one on me, me old china.

Thanks, I think.  Is that septic as in shock or infection or septic as in full of waste material?

It comes from Cockney 'rhyming slang' Jeff. Septic tank = Yank big_smile

Whereas I am, in fact, myself a septic, I lived in London for so long that I picked up a lot of the vernacular. If I put my mind to it I can sound just like one of 'them'.

I like playing with language and words. Clearly, you do too. I respect and appreciate that!

A few more examples for you before I hit the sack -

Whistle and flute = suit
Dog and bone = phone

And my favorite - trouble and strife = wife. As in, "Uh oh, here comes the trouble". big_smile

Token weather report: both wind and rain have now sufficiently died down that I can crash in relative quiet. Night all.

I'm surprised mate. Septic is as old as the hills, and I'm no Cockney. There's also having a Sherman, but that's something else entirely. big_smile

Talk about crazy. We just went from being in shorts enjoying 70 degrees, to a huge downpour, to 14 inches of snow, and back to about 60 degrees and sunny. Crazy.

Re: The Weather!

Just about 80 degrees F right now.  Tomorrow I'll travel to Scottsdale, Arizona where it will dip down to 68 then creep back up to 78 by Monday when I'll head back home to another 80 degree day (or so the forecast says).  Remember - you can hate me now, but you must pity me all summer.

P. S.  Congratulations to you almost Bonametalists.  smile

Re: The Weather!

Awww, thanks Libby. Enjoy the warm weather.....it's freezing here. My car door was frozen shut this morning. I almost went back to bed and forgot about work.....then I remembered the mortgage.

Re: The Weather!

Springtime in London.....raining cats & dogs big_smile Nah, it'll be around 50 to 60 F, the flowers will be in bloom, occasional cloud but dry with a cool night air. There will however be a very heavy blues tinge in the west of London, primarily near the RAH. It may also be a tad rocky but any hint of a local earthquake will be due to a cranked Marshall, a Cat5, a Van Weeden and a Two Rock being pushed to the limit. The sound of a local stampede will be the feet of 5000 fans doing the Joe march!

Yep Monti,

Sounds just like Wisconsin weather. We have a saying here that goes, "If you don't like the weather now wait 5 minutes, it'll change."

Roy

I think that saying is everywhere, because we have it here too.

Geoff,

I live in Southern California......I can HANDLE the earth moving, believe me!!!  I do own several umbrellas (er, bumbershoots??).....I'll probably need to budget in some UK friendly clothing.  Darn, shopping (oh yeah, it's my favorite sport)!!

I'll be counting on you UK forum friends to help add a little charm and flavor to my English with your colorful phrases!!!
