This is a hard one to give an opinion about because it was great the other way, more than one song has been brought back slower, and its not a new song. Its hard to get past those things.
I am not trying to complain but these factors simply can't be ignored so I think its influencing people's opinions and maybe making people wonder if its going to be a pattern. Personally I don't fear that so much but I sense others do.
Anyway I had a slight leaning of not thinking I would like it so much because of those things but I seriously dig it alot. The Rick and Carmine thing gives it a killer groove. Can't wait to hear it in person.
I think Phil's suggestion may work but I'd prefer to wait for one really rockin song all the way thru.
The complete version of One of These Days is awesome, glad thats in the set too.
I don't see anyone questioning if this is going to be a pattern. It's just Joe exploring options with his songs that he didn't explore in the past. As Joe brings back some of the older songs in his catalog, they take on a new life of their own. New band members also add an extra dimension to the songs.
"and its not a new song. Its hard to get past those things." I disagree, I feel like it is a new song, just like when Joe covers Just got Paid, except Joe was the earlier artist. I don't think it is hard to get past that unless you are listening and trying to compare song to song, phrasing to phrasing. I don't want to over analyze it, just enjoy the new funky sound.
I agree with Nancy in Chicago's statement "It really highlights the maturing of Joe's sound."
I love it Joe! Keep it coming!
