Topic: Tom Dowd and the Language of Music

So I just caught the tail end of this documentary yesterday and I could have swore I saw our friend Joe in it.  Does anyone know for sure if he appeared in that film?  I'm definitely gonna have to watch that whole thing sometime.

I just caught a glimpse of him so I wasn't for sure.  I know he worked with the legendary Tom on ANDY, but I wasn't sure if I was seeing things or not.  I think he was playing a Gibson (double cutaway perhaps?) and sitting near a piano in the scene that I *thought* I saw him in.

Being a student of recording engineering/producing, I am a huge fan of Tom's work.  In fact, if I could meet one engineer I would have to say it would have been him (I'd be beyond happy with Les Paul or Bill Putnam).  I mean c'mon: Ray Charles, Dizzy Gillespie, Aretha Franklin, Cream, Allman Brothers, Lynard Skynard, Derek and the Dominoes, Joe, Booker T and the MGs, Otis Redding, Rod Stewart, and the list goes on and on and on.....RIP Tom.

Yes You Did. He Also shows up in the beginning. It is An Amazing Doc. If anyone knows how to get a copy of this that would be great. Darrell

This run's on the Sundance Channel occ. It's one of my favorite docs. The 1st time I saw it I got very excited seeing Joe. Monty, I agree..Tom Dowd and Les Paul..We owe them soo much...One of the best parts is when he is showing how he recorded Layla....Cathy

Re: Tom Dowd and the Language of Music

Just a few weeks ago it was available to watch on netflix internet viewing or what ever they call it. I've seen it about 6 times, it is one of the best docs I've watched. The time I met Phil and his wife in Tahoe they played it on a video screen on stage prior to Joe playing. An intriguing look into the growth of the recording industry and a great history lesson in how the govt. recruited unsuspecting sharp minds into helping to build the a-bomb.
