Topic: Please deluge the BBC Messageboard about Joe's live session!

Hi Everyone

I've just posted a message of thanks about Joe's show on to the BBC Radio messageboard

here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbpointsofview … ad=5091674

As you know the BBC are a bit stuffy and class The Paul Jones R 'n' B Show as a minority programme!!!  Therefore, it is only given an hour, but there is a campaign afoot to make it longer.  Can you please post lots of comments to my thread to help this campaign.  Then PJ prog will be able to play lots more Joe Bonamassa music and have lots more mindblowing live sessions.

Every post that you make will be really appreciated by Paul Jones and his production team. (You have to register first and the registration is a bit of a bore, but remember your doing it for the blues!)

You know that there are probably lots of other awesome unknown blues artists/bands that really need to be heard, but just can't get on the PJ prog.

PS  I'm haven't stopped listening again to Joe since it 7 PM!  My mind is still blown!

Re: Please deluge the BBC Messageboard about Joe's live session!

Sorry but I have to take issue with this. Radio 2 are very much into blues/roots music. There are some fantastic shows and some very open minded DJ's......apart from Paul Jones take a listen to the very well respected Bob Harris, Johnnie Walker, Mike Harding and quite a few more too. (I don't work for the BBC.....I just like Radio 2, apart from Ken Bruce smile )

Hi Gsj

Have you heard Bob Harris, Mike Harding, or Johnnie Walker play any of Joe's stuff?

I know that Bob Harris has had Gary Fletcher, of The Blues Band, on his show for an interview about his solo stuff.  Bob has been playing tracks from Gary's great new CD called "Human Spirit".  You've probably heard them.  Gary Fletcher speaks very highly of Bob Harris and I know that I should find the time to listen to his show too.

Have you been listening to the Radio 2 series about Alexis Corner?  That's really interesting.

It's good to know that there are some other shows that do play some blues on Radio 2, but it's PJ's prog that really puts its heart and soul into promoting unknown and little heard blues artists.  Paul Jones does it because he really loves the blues you know.

Please give PJ and the blues your support by putting a favourable comment on the Radio 2 Points of View Messageboard,

Jane, Bob Harris played Taking The Hit when I requested it recently. I was actually refering to the fact that Radio 2 is generally a pretty cool station for obscure artistes although there is a lot of dross too wink

Hey Geoff....What's "dross"?    Cathy

Re: Please deluge the BBC Messageboard about Joe's live session!

Hi gsj and Cathy

I suppose he means rubbish, Cathy.  There sure is quite a bit of that on Radio 2, during the day, it's more chat than music.  I gave up listening to the day time programmes many years ago.  It's only been since they have put the "Listen Again" on the computer that I have been able to listen to the more interesting evening shows.  It seems that Bob Harris has three hours for his late night show.  I've looked up his recent playlists and he has played Joe, which is great. I started to listen to the latest Bob Harris show, but switched back to Joe's session, because it sounds so much better than the music of The Eels, or whoever.

Making PJ's prog longer would help to make Radio 2 even better for obscure blues artists to get their stuff played and heard.  There are an awful lot out there who never get a look in you know.

It would be great if Joe's music got played on some day time shows.  Have you any idea if any have started to play "Sloe Gin" at all?

Yep Cathy, that's what dross means wink Jane, Planet Rock play Joe during the day but they're presently threatened with closure. There's a thread on here to help keep them on the airwaves.

Re: Please deluge the BBC Messageboard about Joe's live session!

Hi gsj and Cathy

I'm glad that some other station has picked up on Joe's stuff.  It may get more rock fans into the blues.   I see that Rock Planet have a competition going for Joe tickets for the Crewe gig on the 22nd Feb.

I read about the planned closure of this station in the paper.  It's not economically viable, it seems.  The trouble is that business men are only interested in money and don't care about the music.  They are only interested in the music if it's the sort that can make them a lot of money.  That's why a lot of record companies aren't interested in the blues at all.

The Blues Band have alway been ignored by the music industry and The Blues Band have always ignored the music industry and done their own thing.  I love their independent spirit!

I don't listen to Rock Planet as they don't really play my sort of music, except for Joe's, also ads always drive me mad.  I tend to listen to my iTunes library, ipod etc. mostly as they play my perfect mix of music all the time .  I suppose a lot of people do that now.

Station closures are sad for the people who do enjoy listening to them though.  I never really ever recovered from the closure of "Big L" Radio London back in the 60s.  I remember being heartbroken about it at the time.  I never listened so intently to any radio station again after that.

I like listening to PJ's show though, as I find I enjoy the music mix on the show very much.  I've picked up on a lot of new artists by listening to it and over the years I've learnt a lot about the blues as well.  Do you like Ana Popovic?  She's one example and Joe, of course.  I also enjoy going to lots of live gigs, blues festivals etc.  I've added lots to my iTunes library that way.

Re: Please deluge the BBC Messageboard about Joe's live session!

You actually had to make sure that I wasn't making it up? big_smile I have to admit that I don't like everything that Bob Harris plays but you've got to respect his judgement. Do you remember The Old Grey Whistle Test? Bob is to be respected in the world of blah blah DJ's. Open your ears and your heart may follow. Mind you, I suppose your i-pod would play the stuff you like most....seeing as you put it on there in the first place.

Re: Please deluge the BBC Messageboard about Joe's live session!

Hi gsj

I remember The Old Grey Whistle Test, but I never really ever watched it.

I have spent about 7 months loading my entire CD collection on to my iTunes library and have synched it to my big ipod, so now for the first time I can really appreciate my music collection.  I find having about 20,000 tracks on one little thing amazing!  I put it on shuffle so I never know what's coming next.  It keeps me endlessly fascinated.

I had to get my young neighbours to explain the system to me though at the beginning, but I'm glad I did!

I'm rarely without my ipods now.  They have three Joe albums at the moment and I'm hoping to add the set soon.

Re: Please deluge the BBC Messageboard about Joe's live session!

The OGWT was fantastic and played a fabulously eclectic mix of music. If it were on today then Joe B would most certainly have made his debut UK tv appearance on it. Check out the boxset DVD for some great artists.
