Topic: The Gibson Les Paul "Joe Bonamassa"

Hey Everybody,
I just wanted to give you a update on what we decided on for the Joe Bonamassa Les Paul.  First: its going to be a Gold top based on a early 57 design.  It'll have the black back and black pickup surrounds and hardware.  They will be aged and look right for the period.  They will have a Burstbucker 2 in the front and a Burstbucker 3 for the lead.  All the chrome will be aged and it will have Grover tuners.  The headstock will be a consistent thickness and match my main Murphy. It will have the nice 1959 profile neck.   The ABR-1 will have no retaining wire and 3 nylon saddles just like on mine.  I basically did everything to it to make it a great guitar.  It'll be light and the dish on the top will be more pronounced than on other historic Gold tops. It will look and sound and most importantly feel right.  I wanted to  make something that people will want to play forever and always grab for as their first choice.  I dont know exactly how much they will be but in the low $3000's  I will guess.  Kudos to Pat, Rick, Edwin, Tom and Chris  and everybody at the custom shop for being so cool and doing this for me.  Plus got to give a big shout out to Jim Dunlop for making the Joe Bonamassa custom Jazz 3's.  They are basically the same pick only with my name on them.  Just got them today.. so cool

Re: The Gibson Les Paul "Joe Bonamassa"

Sounds great Joe and well deserved. Any idea when it'll be available...particularly in the UK? Also, are the JB Jazz III's available too or just made for you?

Re: The Gibson Les Paul "Joe Bonamassa"

As far as the JB Dunlop Jazz 3s they are just made for me..Poor Jim had to make a new mold... I guess you could call them up and they probably make em for you.. He did say that the sales for those picks are up alot since that guitar one article came out about them..

Re: The Gibson Les Paul "Joe Bonamassa"

Joe, it's funny. We ran a guitar school next door to the store and because one of the tutors (very young, very talented, makes ya sick that ya can't play what he can, well I can't....but you can smile ) used Jazz 3's so did all of the kids. We kept selling out of them. The school's been shut for some time but we keep running out of Jazz 3's and I thought it'd be cool to stock them with your name on. I'll pester our supplier.
Thanks

Geoff

As it turns out your pick is one of 5 or 6 that all get stamped at the same time. I doubt they would market them since they are made for each individual player. Maybe you could make them available through the online store though for those who can't get one at a show, whatta ya think???? The LP sounds very sweet. Jimi decided to finally make the pick when he saw the article, but that was 10 months ago, but the Dawg persisted and it finally got done. Hooray.

Re: The Gibson Les Paul "Joe Bonamassa"

Joe how did they fit your name on the pick?  magic?  wink
I started using the Jazz III's after the article too.  Other pics just feel bleh now.

Re: The Gibson Les Paul "Joe Bonamassa"

Thanks for the update, Joe... very cool... congratulations again... I'm so excited for you!  My 17-year old guitar-playing son will be very interested to read your guitar description, and I'll have to make sure he knows about those picks too... he's a big fan, by the way, and he's been turning his friends onto you too.  smile

Re: The Gibson Les Paul "Joe Bonamassa"

You are on a roll Joe...congrats....whats next for us?....maybe some national TV exposure!

Re: The Gibson Les Paul "Joe Bonamassa"

Sound really great Joe!!

I don't understand anything from the technical things you said about the guitar, but I'd love to see and hear it at a show. When can we expect that Joe?

Congratulations again!

Andre Wittebroek.

Re: The Gibson Les Paul "Joe Bonamassa"

Sounds like a great guitar, congratulations!
So it'll look like this one you had in Amsterdam, but with a black back?: Goldtop LP played on Asking Around For You
Quite cool, the black pickup rings & hardware will make it stand out from the usual goldtops since they almost always seem to have white pickguards & rings etc.
Also good to hear you've gotten your own Jazz III's now. I recently started using those as well, mainly because of uou tongue. Eric Johnson recently got his signature Jazz III's as well: http://news.harmony-central.com/Newp/20 … z-III.html
Maybe they'll release the JB ones as well.

We have just one world, but we live in different ones.
