What are the Cabinets? they look like old style DumbleLand 4 x12s.. (Dumbleland was the 300 watt Dumble) and are they 50 or 100 watters or a mixture of both.. and do you find the shield useful? I guess thats three things.. Great looking rig Yo!!

Enjoying the new forum layout.. Came as a surprise to me as well.. Went shopping today on London's famous Denmark street. I found a Musicman HD-150 reverb for 400 quid... Sorry my english girlfriend has gotten me into english slang.. Its fantastic and supremely undervalued.. Look for these amps ... Mines a head.. but the combos rock too..

Re: Heads Up For a Jubilee Clone! (19 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)The Jubilee has the greatest effects loop.. I dont use the twinklator with that.. I use several buffered things in the chain. Different amps have different effects running through them. Its all about not over doing it. A chorus and reverb run through the VanWeelden or Second Carol Ann. A straight up reverb ( diaz) goes through the JB-100 Carol Ann through the front input. there is a Arion chorus going in the rig this week along with a few other bells and whistles. the Rig is getting redone for the new year. So the first pictures of 09 might now be the same as 08. I get bored and need to try new things. Amp guys get mad at me, but I tell them thats the deal up front.
Keep you posted.. Im setting everything up next week..

Re: Joe's Gear & Amps - overview (62 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)Ok, there are five things wrong with that.. but I think who did it is great.. I got such a kick out of it..
1. I use a fulltone or a Demeter Tremelo in line before the Wah Wah,
2. I use only 100 watt amps so the Cat 5 american is listed wrong
3. I use a diaz vibratrem on the JB 100 6L6 amp for solos and I dont use the two rock anymore.
4. I use a delayed reverb chorus on the Van Weelden for which I now Have two.. One for the states and one for Europe
5. And the fuzzface is run through the superlead only..
Again most of it will change this year.. Im bored and feel like changing a few things around..

Re: Theremins... (15 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)Ok, its simpler than you think.. The Theremin runs through the spare normal input of my Category 5 JB-100 (yes 100 ) silver amp. It gets used at the same time as the guitar goes through it. Reason number 356 to use 100 watt amps. A keely DD-3 and Ernie Ball Volume pedal provide the delay and the expression. You can use it through any good clear amp. But a dual amp set up is best.. I hope this helps

Re: Speaker Talk (20 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)It doesnt matter how many watts you use.. The Electro Voice 12L classic or Zakk Wylde really create a warmth that I dont find anywhere else. Its a true sounding speaker.. What ever the amp is giving you the speaker will reproduce. I highly recommend them.. If you dont want to use EV- a vintage Rola Celestion 65 will take you home.. If you have some bucks and want a original Fane, or greenback thats fine but not el-cheapo... Good luck, listen and let your ears and the reaction from the amp tell the tail.. Dont buy into hype... stay Coca cola and Pepsi..(Warren Buffet style) not Whole Foods brand.

Re: Joe's Gear & Amps - overview (62 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)Think of each of my 4x12 cabs as 2 2x12 cabs.. each are split with a separate jack and a divider in the middle.. the ones I am taking on this tour are Category 5 made. They sound great and punchy. I wear my cabs out almost on a yearly basis.. The amps are subject to taste.. I do recommend the EV's.. The vintage modern is set at maximum. great reverb and texture.. plus they did a mid boost!!! great for guys like me. I am also loving a 18 year old Bogner Exstacy right now.. The "D" Setting is fantastic.. So the final 2009 rig is as follows...
1. 1987 Silver Jubilee 100
2. Bogner Exstacy 100/ or Cat 5 JB 100
3. Van Weelden red/silver panel Twinkelland and twinkleator
4 Carol Ann JB 100 blue man
Effects chain.. all boss!! LOL
through the twinklelator.. Boss half rack chorus, dd3 delay, and rev 5
through the Carol ann .. TC-chorus. (ooops) dd3 delay and rev 5
through the jubilee dd3 delay from the bloodline days..
through the bogner or cat 5 nothing.. a man has to pretend he's Paul Kossoff sometimes..
Pedal Board..
DD3 for Jubilee, TS-808 reissue, Chandler Tube Driver, Fulltone Tremelo, Jorge Tripps Copper Fuzzface,Liele abc, Whirlwind A/b or both, Voodoo labs pedal power 2 and Jorge Trips Custom limited (two only) JB Crybaby Wahs..
there it is folks.. all the 11 herbs and spices for the 2009 american rig.. Btw now I have two in the US... so if you see a different combo its because the "B" rig came out..

Re: Joe using products again that rhyme with "Bender"?? (23 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)HELLO everybody..
I used a lot of vintage Fender amps on the Ballad of John Henry.. They sounded great as did the Marshalls and new stuff I use.. I take issue with Fender circa 2009 because of what they did.. A lot of their stuff sounds harsh to me now.. I do like the Hot Rod 2 x 12 deville.. Its a good amp.. I like some of the master built stuff.. Hate the gold sparkle strat they make for obvious reasons.. Fender doesnt make bad stuff.. I just prefer Gibson now.. Its warmer , its made better in my humble opinion. Again.. there will be too many people that disagree.. but my reputation is to tell it like I see it..
Fender's golden age is long past.. Gibson's stuff is as good now I think.. I own late 50's gibson stuff.. The historic series is very very close.. I also own 50's and 60's Fender guitars.. and the relic stuff not as close.. Again its just my opinion.. nothing more nothing less.. My issues with Fender are over really.. I am just playing what I want to play now..

John Henry's standard issue Tube Sceamer and Chorus. but I didnt use the tube screamer just straight amp. the light on the amp was malfunctioning. so it was stuck on high but the channel would switch.. so Low gain, mid boost chorus pedal..

I once responded to a fan who tried to get into a discussion about the differences on batteries in pedals like Eric Johnson can discern.. I said to him its a taste thing and shouldn't we be out talking to the cute girls in the lobby? This is kind of the same thing.. Ported vs not .. not much of a difference. I really liked the White Cerritone amp.. Sounded really good. The trick with the Marshall amp is the using the crunch channel and separate tube screamer. That will bring the mids really forward and make it very thick and articulate. Great tone Dude!! The Fender Cab sounded good as well.

Re: Joe, what are your preferred tubes and why?? (22 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)Hey Guys,
I usually prefer JJ tubes for everything.. EL-34s and 6L6's . Two Rock was always nice enough to throw New Old Stock GE 5881's into my amps that I bought.. Only problem with going there is the expense and the durability.. My stuff moves hundreds of miles a day. Its played hard, put away still warm and travels. So the JJ's work for me. Mesa tubes run too hot but are good, Svetlana and new Mullard and Sovtek are good to the chrismas tree and not the amps, Groove Tubes are ok, depending on the rating. My favorite of all time is a tie, Old Tesla's from the czech republic and Siemens from Germany. Again its all season to taste here. But a bad tube will ruin your amps tone.
Joe B
PS, when running new tubes, break them in. They will all start out a bit sterile, but a week in its magic, two weeks in they are perfect , three weeks in you start to lose midrange and by week four its over.. time to start again..

Re: Joe, what are your preferred tubes and why?? (22 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)Pre-amp tubes are again subject to taste.. Like you your amps have good days and bad days. Power plays a big factor in that. Anyway.. Old GE are great for 12ax7s and 7025, 12 AT7s I like RCA. I use a AT 7 in my chandler tube driver. Makes is less gainy as it should. Peter Van Weelden has the best knowledge of tubes I have ever run across. He also owns the best collection of tubes.. For blue collar street preamp tubes.. I d use JJ honestly.. Thats whats in the Jubilees and dumbly things I own.. Be sure to not get too involved in the nanoisms of tube and concentrate more on achieving the tone from your playing and attack.. Thats the real key IMHO

Re: Boss DD-3 Noise and... (18 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)After reading you post, I would not be surprised if it wasnt the Ceritone that is the source of the volume decrease.. That sounds like a loop problem. On the Silver Jubilees and other marshall I have never run across that in the boss DD-3 delays.. One way to fix it is to find a tech and see if you can get a more 1 to 1 ratio from your loop.. Its probably wired in Parallel which is not great.. Series is your friend.. Good Luck

What we did for Ronnie Scotts was a bit of a Brian May thing.. Wired a bunch together and used a bit of the monitor for a supplement. I run the volume at 4 treble 3 mid 6 and bass 10.. Having a 10 inch speaker helps the bottom end.. I believe they start production like now.. Those were every one in existence for the exception of the one I carry for the dressing room.. Re: Yay! More amp blending! (10 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)Hey guys.. I know I use a few variations of dumble clones and even a Marshall clone here and there. But I will say as a consumer advocate here I am not sold on some of the Marshall clones. I think an authentic Marshall will win the day. There is a certain complexity to especially the old ones that the new clones don't have. The post Bernie Madoff affect has brought the originals down to pre investment banker levels. A real 1980's JCM 800 series or early 70's JMP or even a metal face 1969 that has not been treated a cash for clunkers 1980 Lincoln Continental. Those amps can be had reasonably these days. Honestly some of these new clone amps use Mercury Magnetics transformers(those are especially questionable in my mind) and new parts that do not sound right driven into natural overdrive. IMHO. The Cat 5 suffers from this a little as well. I find if I let the tubes get really worn in and turn it up to like 5 it's fine. Again this is all taste. I will say I just got a 1985 Boogie Mark 3 in wood and cane. It is great. It was a bargain at 800 dollars. 100 watts and small. You can spend 2000 or more on a 7 watt toy.. Bare that in mind when shopping as well.
Good Luck..

Re: Yay! More amp blending! (10 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)Again its a taste thing.. I find Mercury magnetic transformers very cold sounding.. The sensation of "Im supposed to like these but why am I not knocked out?" I prefer older transformers.. Musicman Fender Showman, or original plexi.. You will notice to difference straight away..

Re: Tone Freak question.... (13 replies, posted in Joe's Guitars, Amps and Gear)I use beyer dynamics wireless units for electric and acoustic guitar. I tried several other companies and devices that had a negative impact on the sound. Beyer makes a great one for guitar. I literally cant tell the difference between the cable and the wireless. The bottom end and midrange are the same. There is no detectable compression. My luck they will discontinue the model .. Just kidding. I love being wireless on stage now. I use one pack with a neutrik end cable. Thats it. I imagine one day I will go way back and break out my stash of original curly cables. But thats a few years away.. Its also predicated on if I can achieve the Clapton/ noel Redding Fro..circa 1968.
