Topic: Pink Floyd Oh BUY the Way
I know what you're saying: "3 star for the entire Pink Floyd studio album back catalog?! Are you MAD?!?"
To explain: as anyone past infancy should already know, the recorded material that constitutes this box set gets 5 stars hands-down. Anyone who doesn't already have it as part of their music collection should pounce on this set IMMEDIATELY.
But what if you already have the PF catalog (or a significant chunk of it)? Well that's where "Oh By the Way" box set falls waaay short.
Here's my beef: while this package sure looks purty and all, my complaint is that the main objective of it seems to be rake in tons of Christmas cash rather than to create an amazing and truly unique addition to the Pink Floyd catalog. "Oh By The Way" is just the studio albums - and that's that. It would seem that this would have been a GREAT opportunity to throw in a CD or two full of rare and hard-to-find stuff. Why is there nothing of the kind with this set? Or, if the rarities route was a no-go, why not make it a dual-disc 5.1 surround sound treatment a la the Talking Heads "Brick" box set? As much as the "Shine On" box was kind of a let-down in that, like "OBTW," the majority of it was just straight-up studio albums (although many had been newly remastered to sound better than ever - especially "Wish You Were Here"), at least IT had the early rarities CD and the big hardcover book.
