Topic: Houston.. err Stafford Show

In deference to the venue...and the mayor of Stafford who Joe said he met on Friday...

Joe brought his A game last night..Maybe someone can post a set list..

It was the first time I had seen Joe Headline in a venue larger than a club and it was great to see so many people at the show.

Nice suprise towards the end when Joe brought out Doug Pinnick of King's X (from Houston) to sing a song...it brought back long forgotten memories of the numerous King's X shows I attended during my college years at the University of Houston.  Thanks Joe...

The show lasted just under two hours..Joe was on fire, the band was great..

To the band...thanks for a Spectacular night. Can't wait for the next time...The best Joe Show is the next Joe show.

Re: Houston.. err Stafford Show

Fully agree, although I did see the now famous show with Joe 'supporting' Frampton. Frampton must have been really pissed at Joe as he totally outplayed him.

Pity he didn't stay around to sign stuff like he normally does.

Re: Houston.. err Stafford Show

Yeah..I was there at the Frampton show too, I think there were about 6 of us that knew who Joe was..I didn't realize the Frampton show was Joe's first time in Houston.

Good Stuff.

Re: Houston.. err Stafford Show

Great show, great crowd, awesome venue......didn't take note of set list, I'm sure someone will have it. Got some good pics of the band with Doug Pinnick sitting in. Another special evening.

Re: Houston.. err Stafford Show

I was there, both at the Frampton show and last night's.  Joe outplayed Frampton by a mile that time, and he was on fire again last night!  Show was great, setlist was great, even the opening guy was good.  Crowd was a bit rowdy, but not unbearable - a few less drinks would probably have done the trick. tongue Some pics:

I know it's a long shot, but if anyone recorded the concert, we'd really appreciate it in the torrent thread. smile

InorganicMatter- I was checking out the pictures you took at the show and couldn't help notice what was written under the picture of Bogie. It's funny the difference in peoples opinion. I was watching Joes DVD "Live At Rockpalast" the other night and thinking to myself how much better Bogie is than Kenny, the whole band for that matter is soooooo much better but what really stood out to me was the drumming. I had the pleasure of seeing Joe and the band twice a couple of weeks ago and 4 times last year all with Bogie behind the drum set. I never did see the band live with Kenny but do have both DVD's and it just seems to me that Bogie is a much more solid drummer. Just my opinion.

Bridge to Better Days w/Deep Purple Tease
Walk in My Shadows
So Many Roads
Mountain Time
Another Kind of Love
Sloe Gin
High Water Everywhere
If Heartaches Were Nickels
Woke Up Dreaming
Django
Just Got Paid / Mule / Dazed / Drums
Encores: ???

The venue was fantastic and the sound was excellent.  Crosby Loggins was pretty good and had a nice voice.  Joe came out and absolutely smoked.  There were a lot of stunned people in the audience, especially during the acoustic guitar extravaganza on the extended ending of Woke Up Dreaming.  The keyboards were a nice addition and added depth to Roads and Sloe Gin, which were the highlights for me.  Also, I just don't think I'll ever get tired of Mountain Time, which I've seen all 6 times I've been to a Joe show.  I found myself comparing the styles of the different band members I've seen...but in the end it doesn't matter - it's all about Joe.  He was in great voice and I'd have to say this was the tightest show so far.  (The only thing I didn't care for was the smoking buddha on Carmine's rig - if an idol is needed on stage, I'd prefer to see Homer Simpson's head.)
Thanks again for coming to Houston...Stafford's close enough.

Maybe I should change that caption, as it's a bit misleading.  Boogie is a GREAT drummer, but I just think that Kenny fit in more with Bonamassa's style of music.  That's not saying Boogie isn't good (he is!) but I think Kenny was just a better fit.

That being said, I like the current band a lot better than the last.  The first is always the best, second iteration was just meh, third is must closer to the first.

I still miss Eric though. sad He's one of those bassists that is just irreplaceable.  His playing style and personality complimented Joe so much more than the last bassists.

Re: Houston.. err Stafford Show

Inorganic Matter,

Joe's live shows are a constantly evolving project. I've only been to 9 or 10 shows in 3 years since I discovered this awesome guitar slinger. This past run through Norcal I was blown away by how tight So Many Roads sounded and in my opinion it's a direct result of the quality talent surrounding Joe these days. Joe has surrounded himself with the same people he's worked with in the studio on the last two cd's and you get a better rendition of the tracks they've laid down together, but not note for note versions which is the special essence of the live shows. True the drum tracks are inter-changed, but I love some Tar Heel with my back beat. I suggest hittin' your next show maybe just with the wife or with some buddies that haven't heard Joe before, but hit another one asap with the kids so they don't turn on ya'. You probably already created some monster fans.

Kenny is an outstanding drummer.  He added so much to Joe Bonamassa's music.  All you have to do is listen to "Travellin South" to know the dynamics and talent that Kenny has as a drummer. One thing he never did was overplay the song.   He was very precise and that's why I am glad I got to see him over 14 times.  I'm glad I have the older cd's and dvd's to always have his drumming around.

I didn't bring up Kenny to compete, just to say how great he is.

I could never be doomed by Kenny.  I am listening to him in the present right now.
And what is great is I do have a repeat button on my cd player so I can listen to him over and over again.

If I got an A in the past, I surely would want an A in the present and the future.

Edited to take out the 49'er fan comment since Jdawg says he's not a 49'er fan.

Re: Houston.. err Stafford Show

I see you & I are the late skulkers here River...I love that assessment of Kenny Kramme..."One thing he never did was overplay the song.  He was very precise..." Both VERY true. I really like Bogie too, as much and certainly no way no less.  His drum solo antics are tip tops to me though...Oh yeah, he can overplay anyday as far as I'm concerned.  He doesn't in my book, but if so, go Bo!  The song Sloe Gin is a perfect performance by Bogie, recording and especially live.  Thers is such an intense 5 points synergy (fifth Joe's singing) between the guys and intruments, of course the drummer will get overlooked.  Until you really listen intently and critically. Bowles plays the heck out of that song, and given its' structure, that's saying a lot...
