Yes, Ginger and Mitch weren't known for being in the pocket. I think that came from mostly them being jazz influenced. In fact, I don't look at Cream so much as a rock band, but as a jazz trio that played rock music. When they would go off and jam, it seemed to be extremely jazzy, very freeform. My favorite drummer is Bonzo. I prefer the heavy hitting style. But Ginger definitely came from the jazzy side of things, as did Jack. In fact, I've heard Ginger say many times that he and Jack played jazz and Eric played the blues. And sometimes, in those boots, they just fall apart, but there are also many times where something absolutely beautiful comes out of it.

I listen to a lot of stuff from the sixties, actually. Cream's stuff, Hendrix's, Mayall, early Zeppelin. Man, I guess we flip-flopped huh?

Now, someone was comparing Joe's old band to Cream, and I say this: to me, you take any of the three members of Cream out of Cream, and it ain't Cream. But, you can replace the bassist and drummer in Joe's band, and if they're good musicians (as Mark and Bogey) there will not be a dropoff.

I got to agree on Bonham. That guy defined Zep's sound as much as any member.

   Hi Kids! Yeah, I have to say, Cream was out there. It's almost useless to compare Cream and Joe B's band, though, because times have changed, people's mindsets have changed, and it's kind of hard to decide what joe would have been like back then.
   By the way, I did like his tour band last year, at least the one he played central Point, OR with, when he played with kenny Wayne and BB. As to whom would be better, whew, that's a tough one. I remember I was really impressed with his bass player, but Joe was the central figure, as always.
   And as far as wrong notes go (I think I started that grizzly subject), I would think Joe would be the authority on that subject. I do remember him kind of cocking his head around at the fretboard at one point and I was suspicious he THOUGHT he had hit one, but at the speeds he plays, who would know? Maybe even HE doesn't! I think that was a joke....
   Maybe it was some sort of doppler effect! HA!

There is no doubting Joes ability and I like the response that whoever he plays with, go and see him.
Ive got my tickets for the next visit.
Saw him twice last tour but unfortunately missed him the previous summer as I was playing a blues fest.
Would have loved to have seen Czar.(sorry Joe)
However Joes inspiration came from Clapton.
Clapton left Cream to decay to mediocrity for years until as one critic put it "someone reminded him he could play a guitar".
What a loss. None of them have really recovered the energy.
Today there are two types of Clapton fan in the UK, the diehards who say he can do no wrong and the young guys who refer to the
"Real" Eric Clapton (Cream with biting SG or 335) and "strat" Clapton
(an altogether softer old guy approach).
Hope Joe continues to climb and remain alive with ideas, not simply producing updated covers of past old gits glory days.

I liked the old guys as well. I really like Bogie and Mark too. Different, but both good and each has their own strengths and weaknesses.

The new material is stellar. The versions of the songs added to the set list are nothing short of stunning. They are good enough that I find myself wanting more than 3 of them in the current set; but at the same time I don't want to give up any of the old ones either.

The new music definitely shows changes in Joe and seems to be evolutionary in nature. Another good reason to buy some tickets and take some folks to see the shows live.

John Bonham looked up to at least two drummers, Keith Moon and Buddy Rich.
