Topic: Comparing guitar players
People have a hard time seeing something new and taking at face value.
Its like that with guitars, art, music, cars, on and on...even presidents (gasp, don't sidetrack there). People ALWAYS feel the need to compare it to something. If its not another artist, its compared to crap, or a million dollars. Even the "Real McCoy" is a adjective going back to the McCoy train part that was better quality than the others. I think JB is the Real McCoy. People, especially Americans (and I am American) are afraid to admit when we do not understand something - we simply have too much pride, or dont want to suffer embarrassment. If you see something you've never seen before, you scan the brain for something you HAVE seen to compare it to that. Expressing good or bad is tagged with a comparason as well.
Human nature at is (insert adverb here) best.
