Topic: Royal Albert Hall April 24, 25, 26, 2019

just made a thread...hoping for some word...I saw Joe posted on his instagram he will be playing Alvin Lee's guitar tonight
https://www.instagram.com/p/BwpDpChH5T7/
so THAT's exciting but with all this modern social media stuff...it was easier finding out what happened back 10 years ago...i'm not tech advanced but i searched the twitter thing and facebook...not seeing any news yet
can't wait to hear about it

Re: Royal Albert Hall April 24, 25, 26, 2019

Just on way home from the first night at RAH.
Same set list as Glasgow, so as yet, no surprises but maybe Joe’s saving something special for the last night.
Definitely the best sound I’ve heard at the RAH.
Yes, the Alvin Lee guitar was played.
It was truly an excellent concert and the whole band were on top form.
No videos from me I’m afraid but I’m sure some will appear as there were a few people filming.

Lester

He took it all too far,
but boy, could he play guitar.

Thank you reo ... very cool of Joe ... and for Toby! ... I have seen Joe write up (Bonamassa Blog) about Toby in the past ... as a one to watch in 2018 ... I never made the connection if he is related to Alvin ... but seeing how Joe is playing Alvin's semi-hollow (love them) at RAH (very cool!) ... I wonder now ...

Now that Joe his his hands on that guitar I really would appreciate a Joe interpretation of The Bluest Blues

Review from the RAH 1st show.
So envious of those that made the 10 year anniversary trek. Sounds like the usual, he blew the doors down.

Re: Royal Albert Hall April 24, 25, 26, 2019

Saw Joe for the 5th time last night (2nd at Albert Hall) and just read the review mentioned above - wonder if he went to the same gig as me?
Joe started off with a black 335 - not a Les Paul, which he didn't use until the 3rd number, Evil Mama (he used a Strat on King Bee Shakedown)
Slow Train with it's "Bachian intro" was the intro from Jethro Tull's Locomotive Breath from the Aqualung album.
Finally Eric Clapton invited Joe onstage to play in 2009 - think it was the other way round! (well it is on my DVD!)

I gave up on the review after this apart from checking the 14 year old was Toby Lee, who I saw with Walter Trout at Leamington Assembly in Nov 2015 (you can find it on Youtube)-  - a great future if he continues his progression.
My thoughts on the gig - I personally found the sound to be a little 'muddled' and difficult to pick out individual  instruments on the more up tempo numbers - much better on the slower blues number. My seat was in 2nd row from the back in the gods (sound was better last time I went when I was last row of the gods - Rausing Circle - but other side of the Hall.
Despite this little gripe, I did enjoy the show and would go again but only if I can afford better seats, (mine were £85 each) Seems like he's come a long when from when I first saw him in one of the smaller halls at Birmingham NEC, after a guitar exhibition/trade show! His version of Sloe Gin that night was the best I've ever heard it played!

Muddy sound in some spots is a problem the best engineers have tried to fix since the RAH was built. The domed top is horrible for acoustics. The inverted hanging mushrooms are one of the attempts. There is a lot of info online as to the best and worst places to sit, as well as the attempts to solve it. Sound check is maddening because the hall’s dispersion changes drastically with seats filled.

Re: Royal Albert Hall April 24, 25, 26, 2019

Was at 1st night. Absolutely amazing show. Started bang on time with Tiger In Your Tank which I have been hoping to see played live. Was incredible. Shame people were still walking to their seats as he was playing.

Was sitting in stalls looking directly at stage. Was a treat to be able to be sitting there. Last time in 2017 was up in the rausing circle up in the gods.

Thoroughly enjoyed the show. Hope some more vids of 24th appear soon.

Incredible set list on night 3, and did Joe finally sing Tea for One?
If he did, please let there be a vid!

I wasn't there, but appreciate your picking up on the writer's errors.  Besides mixing up the Clapton thing, maybe the worst was his saying most of this band was with Joe 10 years ago...what?!?  Only Anton!

Where's Natasha and Phil's review,  surely they had to be there

(If only I had 1% of Joe's guitar talent)
