Topic: Rival Sons Feral Roots

It dropped yesterday and I had  a chance to stream it a once through.
Have to digest it more.
Initial reaction is it an outstanding album!
Their last album Hollow Bones I thought was pretty good but not great  in my opion.
This new one kind of blew me away upon first listen!
Anyone else had a chance to listen yet?

Re: Rival Sons Feral Roots

When I was at the 3614 Jackson Highway studio in Muscle Shoals last October I was told Rival Sons had booked a week at the famous studio for the week of November 1st.  I'm assuming to record songs for this album.
I've had difficulty listening to the band after my experience with their song "Jordan" which is still painful for me.  I did, however, listen to this album and really like the song "Stood By Me".  Very soulful and bluesy in an old Stones groove.  Going to have to open my ears to other songs.
People still attach Zeppelin to their sound and now compare them with Greta Van Fleet which I find odd.

https://wrif.com/2019/01/25/rival-sons- … le-shoals/  At about 9:30 on the audio recording of Scott Holiday he talks about Muscle Shoals.  They recorded the song I mentioned and three others in four days,  It included my second favorite song "Feral Roots".

Re: Rival Sons Feral Roots

Found this story about recording at The Shoals.  Got a video of "Feral Roots", now my favorite song off the album.  All four songs recorded in Alabama are outstanding.

The song Feral Roots a strong contender for my favorite on album too.
I don’t think they sound like Zep
Only in the fact they have heavy blues rock and a dynamic singer
In the same genre perhaps but the two dont really connect in my book.
GVF More obvious by far. Here GVF going to record a new album soon for 2019 release.Say the want to distance them selves from the Zep clone image.

Actually I think "Feral Roots" does possess a subtle Zep sound off say Houses Of the Holy.  It's certainly not derivative like GVF.
Greta's last album fell way short of their first effort and that's sad considering the musical talent of the band.  In my humble opinion the lead singer is the problem...he is Robert Plant reincarnated and is turning off fans wanting a great rock band and not a tribute act.  If they're hurrying to record another album they may have to get a replacement singer and get away from Zeppelin completely.  I have no doubt they'll be big again.
