Topic: Larkin Poe

Wow, kind of surprised there was no topic for Larkin Poe yet. Larkin Poe are comprised of sisters Megan & Rebecca Lovell who are in their late 20's. They were born in Tennessee and raised in Georgia and are related to Edgar Allan Poe, hence the name of their band. They release many videos just right from their home and have made quite a name for themselves doing it that way. Rebecca is the lead singer and plays most often a Fender Strat and Megan sings backup and plays a lapsteel that she wears. When they tour they also have a drummer, Kevin McGowan and bassist Brent Tarka Layman. They have beautiful voices that blend well and their music has quite a catchy stomp and rhythm to it. They are very good at doing their own take on classic blues songs and have really great originals as well. Larkin Poe have been on Joe's cruise twice now and perhaps they will be there again. They are currently touring with Keith Urban which might seem a strange fit, but they can cross over to that style of music from the blues and its giving them incredible exposure. We saw them with their band at the NY State Blues Festival in Syracuse this past weekend. They put on a great show and the crowd absolutely loved them. These young women are definitely on the rise. Be sure to check them out.

Re: Larkin Poe

Had the pleasure of seeing them for the 1st time in Buffalo a couple of days before you saw them at the NY Blues festival in Syracuse. I definitely liked them a lot. The musicianship is excellent as are the vocals and energy. I think they have a very bright future. They really related well to their audience too. While blues are involved, there is an Americana/roots feel to their music as well.

Re: Larkin Poe

They are in the lineup for this year's Bourbon & Beyond festival in Louisville. I look forward to seeing them.

Re: Larkin Poe

I saw them on July 4th at the Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, Ore.....these girls get around....everyone I talked to had been wowed by them...they played the main stage before Robert Randolph (who also got the place jumping)....These 2 girls definitely have a cross-over effect that will benefit them in the long run....very talented, always worth seeing...

Re: Larkin Poe

They tore it up yesterday at Bourbon and Beyond in Louisville. They are very talented and play with soul and energy.  They had one of the early sets and their time slot was limited. I wish they could have played longer.

A friend told me yesterday's shows were canceled in Louisville.  Was it just Sting's show?  I almost went but the weather wasn't good this past weekend in southern Indiana.  Still raining today.

Re: Larkin Poe

We went on Saturday.  They got the full show in that day but it was a sloppy mess by the time John Mayer started. They canceled the whole day for Sunday and they had to. It was a giant mud pit.  But, we had a blast on Saturday.  We wore ponchos, drank good Kentucky Bourbon and heard great music.  Lenny Kravitz put on a great show also.

Re: Larkin Poe

Missed LP's set on Saturday but agree Lenny Kravitz was awesome. I enjoyed everyone I saw on Saturday but he was the standout. Was kind of sad and relieved Sunday was cancelled cuz I was really looking forward to The Magpie Salute. But they are playing in Chicago in January so I will go to that. That is, if it's not blizzarding. Lol
