Re: Europe Spring Tour 2018

Blues – Berlin – Bonamassa – Tempodrom - 30th March 2018 – small review

Last night my wife and I went to the first of Joe’s two concerts here in Berlin and having experienced him in Hannover 3 years ago expectations were high. Joe did not let us down…
Joe mentioned a “wardrobe malfunction” that he had just before the show – it did not seem to impair his performance, on the contrary: perhaps might even have fuelled it…
I don’t consider myself being easily impressed but last night was indeed something special: Compared to his show in Hannover 2015 Joe seems to have matured as a band leader and performer. His interaction with the audience was brilliant and the way playful way he presented and included his band during the show was beyond compare. His joy of playing and improvising on the guitar really translated to the audience in an unexpected sublime way.
There is an element of art in his playing – I don’t know if Joe is aware of it (it doesn’t really matter whether he is or not) but in my opinion his guitar “sings” the lyrics of the blues music: His technique is awesome, no doubt about that, but what amazes me is how he keeps putting poetry in his solos. Even when a string broke during a solo at the end of the show it did not seem to bother Joe that much – he played on. You don’t get to see professionalism and personality got together hand in hand that often…
My personal highlight during the show was “Slow Train” that was arranged and played to perfection by Joe and his band. I’ve heard the song lots of times but this live version added more depth to it.
So, what is not to like…? Nothing, actually… I personally missed a live version of “Drive”, but it might not have fitted on the set list. And although it’s the end of the European tour the merchandise (T-shirts etc.) could perhaps have been a bit broader. Why not bring some signed guitars (Epi Firebird) or for example signed LPs etc.? I think there could be a potential market there…
Last but not least I just want to say “Thank you, Joe & band” for a perfect show I really enjoyed all the way. It was a privilege to have shared that moment with you.
Best regards from Berlin

Was at Manchester Arena on Saturday. An excellent gig as always, the new songs slotted in well but I think he should of split them up between the more familiar songs in the set.
Had a £65 ticket for block 209 upper level and was upgraded to lower level block 108, which were £89 seats. I asked why and was told only 4000 tickets were sold out of a 15000 seat venue. Many fans have been priced out of attending, I know of 4 friends who didn't go because of this.

Don't know about the rest of east Europe but he and his management asked for 80EUR ticket price in Belgrade, Serbia?!? I know that first hand.
Saw Eric Capton in Belgrade for  50EUR ticket, Whitesnake was 50EUR max. Not To mention Metallica or Even Rolling Stones (30EUR in open air), Santana too.
These people are on stage ages before him, I do admire him as a performer but this is just plain vanity. Outrageous.
I can understand the prices in Germany, Sweden...in US the tickets vary between 80$ and 400$+. That is another story.
If you know ( and you should know) the average monthly income in the country you are visiting, you need to adjust your prices. I don't know many people who would easily pay 80EUR ticket knowing they're making just a bit over 300EUR per month. So he should never see Joe performing live, right?
If he's not on Europian tour at the moment of negotiations ok, the prices in that case are high, bit this was during his 2018 Europian tour. Shame. Great guitar player, he literally resurrected the Blues, but he obviously is a stuck-up, very arrogant and self-important geek.

He didn't take a vow of poverty to play the Blues, and he does give back.
i do understand though that his shows are unaffordable for some but it does not make him as you describe above.

It's your loss that you don't see the real Joe. You are welcome to come share your thoughts and opinions here but please refrain from the undeserved hating on Joe.

I don't need to know him as a person. I know his music and pricing policy. None of the people here or anywhere else didn't  take a vow to sponsor his social status, too. Clapton played for 50EUR, Gary Moore too. Remember them?
Read some older posts in this thread on prices in the UK, the guy said it's was just too expensive for more than a few.
There is quote also
'' Ticket prices for the upcoming Cream Reunion Concerts at Madison Square Garden on 24, 25 and 26 October 2005 will range from US $64.50 to US $354.50 (exclusive of fees).Sep 10, 2005''
You have read it in my first post, I DO honestly admire his performances but this overpricing policy is just outrageous.
Luckily, I have learned to make a difference between people and music they make.

Comparing prices from 2005 with today's market is not very fair but if you want to make that comparison, Joe was playing small clubs for $15 in 2005...I would like to know if the venue in Belgrade was close to full or close to empty? That is the true measure of market value is how many tickets were sold versus how many were not sold...I too have concerns with some of the prices that Ticketmaster places on "premium" seats but that price has little or nothing to do with Joe himself...

Re: Europe Spring Tour 2018

Who cares?  Old acts that are totally rich KNOW that they cannot price people out because they KNOW the volume will bring in the payoffs everyone needs, REGARDLESS how big their crew is or extravagant the equipment setups are...the old acts are also NOT AS HOT A TICKET AS JOE CURRENTLY IS, and that is accounting for them being nearly worldwide household names.

Joe’s prices are what they are and the expected turnout shows up and everyone seems to leave performances satisfied.  It’s enough.
