Re: Richmond, Va. Oct. 18th

Stu,

I would have thought that Richmond in Richmond was almost a guarantee!  Oh, well I hope he adds it to his set, great song off the new CD.

Re: Richmond, Va. Oct. 18th

Overall, the show was absolutely awesome and worth the trip from B-More to Richmond on a work night.  That having been said, here are a few little "issues".

It's difficult to use "disappointed" and Joe Bonamassa in the same sentence, but I sure wish we'd have heard Richmond in Richmond.  Since Joe is The Man, I'm sure there's a reason we didn't hear it and I'm OK with that, as what we did hear was incredible. (We even got some hints of Frampton to recall Joe's last visit to Richmond when he opened for Frampton.)

As Daisy mentioned, there were people who talked through the whole show.  As much as I wanted to hit them in the head with a beer bottle, I resisted the urge and focused on Joe.

Also, according to Carmine, someone literally grabbed Joe by the arm in an over-zealous attempt to get an autograph.  Understandibly, this unnerved Joe, and as of midnight, he had not come out to say hi as he usually does.  The rest of the guys were very accomodating and gracious as always.

I echo Daisy's thoughts with regard to Crosby.  He really seems to have gained a lot of confidence since I saw him at Birchmere.  He is an incredible talent and a nice, down to earth guy.  (Perhaps these are the requirements for being on Joe's label?)

As per your request Cathy, I have some good shots of Joe on the Gigliotti.

6.5 hours until Rockville!!!

Re: Richmond, Va. Oct. 18th

Who is this Crosby that is opening up for Joe??

Re: Richmond, Va. Oct. 18th

He's the son of Kenny Loggins and the 1st artist signed to Joe's label....Cathy

Re: Richmond, Va. Oct. 18th

Hi guys, just got back from "Richmond".  Over 900 miles in three days for two shows, but as always worth the drive.  Setlist was identical to the Raleigh "Concert":

Bridge
Walk
Roads
Mountain
Another Kind of Love
Sloe Gin
High Water
Heartaches
Woke Up
Django
Just Got Paid etc...

Encore 1
Ball Peen
Tap an Angel

Encore 2
Miss You

Crosby open with a great set.  A lot energy and was really into it.
Joe came on at 9:30 after a crueling day with little or no sleep.  But they played for about 1:50.  Another two encore show.  The sound was very good in the room, we were on the second row, dead center and the two seats in front of us was empty, so it was perfect.  Maybe 5 to 6 feet at the most from the stage and Joe would come up front on and stand right in front of us.  Got some of the most incredible pictures I ever taken, if I don't mind saying so myself.

The Concert was just as good if not better than the night before, it was unbelievable.  Got to meet a lot of nice Joe fans and some newbies.  Lys and I took care of Jane H. that night and it was a pleasure being with her.  Good to meet Rob, Jeff, Dorothy and many others too.

After the show, spent some quality time with Crosby, Carmine, and Rick.  Said hello to Bogie again.  We also got to see Joe, some time after the show was over.  Crosby went in and told him that we were outside, so as gracious as Joe is, he came out to visit.

That is it from David and Lys!!!

I know they played for at least 12 minutes Django and Just Got Paid because Jane called me and let me listen. As poor as cell phone reception is, I still got a thrill..Thanks Jane!!!! I only had 8 minutes total on my phone last month so 12 minutes was long..lol...Cathy

I thought her phone died after the first three opening songs, but no I was just sharing with sister Cate. More than happy to amiga!!! I did get a call back for the closer and the encores, pretty rough sound wise, but recognizable. Thanks for the thought and the major effort Bonametal the 1st. It was obvious the crowd was really diggin' the show, and I was surprised that there was no Richmond in Richmond either. Rather interesting that Miss You Hate You has returned lately.

Yeah all those penny slot winnings for the year down the drain Stu....Speaking of which (thinking maybe being drained from the jet lag), I had given it some forethought.  Richmond deserves full treatment, maybe it just wasn't in Joe & the guys to coax it out and fully unfold its' beauty Just a thought...

Re: Richmond, Va. Oct. 18th

I'm reading replies one at a time, so to avoid redundancy, I'll try a different thought...Personally I'd be wary of adding it at all to the set, as wonderful as we all know it is, why jeopardize the word of mouth passage of "you have to hear this song" when somebody getting a "thing" for tearing down how it didn't measure up to the recorded version could devalue it...Don't bite my head off, I'm not in the know, I never know.  But that scenario IS possible...I'm just postulating that perhaps now is not (yet) the time and place, given a "live" collection recording is as we speak in the works, maybe a little unexpected diversity, or just the current setlist period ( I would quite think so) will populate the live release, rather than our most ardent wishes...

Re: Richmond, Va. Oct. 18th

Again, I'm reading one reply at a time....I understand the disappointment B-More, and I like how you said expressing it was "difficult" (nicely stated), but I'd not let it affect being B-More Bonamaniac!  Talking at shows, one thing, grabbing Joe by the arm, what kind of nut would do such a thing, no malice intentioned I'm sure, but hey, the guy needs those arms!!!!!!  Man, that's  BLEEPING unbelievable. Future show attendees: No, No, No! Back off a little and show some respect. Love is thoughtful and kind and gentle, show it / share it that way.  Kudos to the rest of the band for their gracious hospitality to fans, lucky they all didn't bolt then & there.   You guys are really piquing my interest in Crosby.  I gots to check him out!  Maybe it's not a NICE big body guard that's needed....GRRRRAHHHHR!!! Which Gigiliotti you referring to, Rob, the nearly departed "Bonnie" (Mountain Time) or the blue baby (Django)....Regardless one picture may be worth 1,000 words, but 10 notes on one of those= 1,000 pictures...

Re: Richmond, Va. Oct. 18th

Just a Sssshhhhushhh if needed Roy.  I have noted over the years that it is an often unfortunate thing people converse during Joe Bonamassa performances....It's a dichotomy (glad you like using that word, Joe)... Joe's talent invites and even demands at times talking excitedly, loudly, etc.  Then there also always seems a contingent now & then, and trust me it seems like a trend over a few years running now, some people go to a concert just because it  seems "something" to do.  While I don't mind the jingle jangle in Joe's pocket for that person paying for entry, it's distubing that them talking socially at an "in" or "happening event" (cripes it's not a pool party or even a "Happy Hour" to wind down) somehow makes them cool....IT don't!

Rock ON & Keep the Faith, but please Shhhhhuuuusssshhhh!

Thanks for the reviews Rob and Dazee. Sounds like it was a great show and Rob, I know what you mean about people talking while Joe and the guys are playing. Why come to a concert if you're going to talk? Talk before, during the break, in between songs, or there's plenty of time afterwards, but not while the guys are playing!! And as far as someone grabbing Joe or getting rough with him, you've got to be kidding! Just goes to show even a**holes attend Joe's shows!! I'd have to have a little "private" conversation with someone if I saw them try that crap with Joe. Sorry, the bad Roy in me is coming out and I much prefer the good Roy. Anyway, thanks both of you for the reviews!! smile

All I can say is 2 thumbs way up!!! David & Co.=Happy Trails....!!!  A "crueling" day, love it! A grueling schedule makes for a "crueling" day indeed.  And somehow Joe & Co. pull off a great Concert anyway! Jane, sorry for any disappointments if you had any, but C'est La Vie or Que Sara Sara, I know dang well you still had a fantastic time (and don't get hot if I am off the mark), so let's hear about it. OK, let's see those picture you are proud of David.
