Re: That moment when...

That moment when you take the wrapper off your last remaining sealed limited edition SILT with ANDY live dvd 2 disc treasured collectible because you for once got a chance to crank some tunes loudly outside and you needed to hear Pain and Sorrow and because you are a total mess of no organization you can't locate one of the dozens of copies of SILT you have open......after many similar times you decided not to open it.....it was worth it!

and then that moment the next day - after promptly returning the case with both discs back to its spot in the rackofMassa the night before - you walk by an already open SILT right on your dresser.....still was worth it!

I stopped caring about collectibles. That wrapper isn’t worth much compared to the contents.

That moment when you are watching obscure youtube video of group of people seating in a hotel lobby and talking about modern American literature ( well... not that obscure - it was live streamed 6 hours ago and already has 70000 views) and suddenly hear that  "Close to My Fire" from Joe and Beth's  " Live from Amsterdam" subtly playing in the background.

Re: That moment when...

4 That moment when it is very difficult for you to keep going, cause things are not going well in your personal and work life and you find in your coat pocket a shred of grocery store receipt that says ... wait...  what?... " We want you" and you laugh, cause silly little things like this keep you  afloat.

Re: That moment when...

yes they do!

that moment when you finally think of a reply for a thread here then can't find the thread big_smile

Re: That moment when...

That moment when you’re told the 13 y.o. granddaughter was selected as Concertmaster 1st violin of the International Middle School Honors Orchestra concert at The Hague in Holland. Oh yeah, even better,  playing my father’s 150 year old French violin we had restored.
Even better still. The concert will be pro live-streamed and my 100 year old mom will view it too. She’s the one that gave her the violin when it was clear she had talent. It’s a very good instrument.

10 years of practice pays, she had her first public playing at the age of 4.
She’s on my avatar watching Joe with her brother.
Proud grandpa Rick.

Wow Rick, that is so cool, and that little girl has been in your avatar all these years.
My granddaughter plays violin also but she just started.  I echo Jane in please give us a heads up or link for her exceptional day.

Great for your granddaughter. Exposure at a young age to music makes kids better adults.
The Suzuki method is what she studied.
I will provide the link when it is available.
Here is the overview.
WHAT?
AMIS (Association of Music in International Schools) European Middle School Honor Orchestra.

A three-day event that brings together the top 6th, 7th, and 8th grade orchestra students from Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. Students will rehearse with a guest conductor/clinician on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday and the event will conclude with a concert on Saturday evening.

WHEN?
March 4-March 8

WHERE?
American School of The Hague
The Netherlands

Since it will be Sat evening, it will be morning here in the US.
Last year they played seriously difficult works of Mozart, Vivaldi, and others. That concert was in Moscow. I was amazed.
For fun, the kids finished with an arrangement of Theme from the Pink Panther.

Re: That moment when...

I don't look at this topic much but glad I found it today, this is quite impressive Rick, congrats to the whole family are in order. I love the violin and wish my son had taken it up early on. No, he wanted to play the trumpet so I went out and bought him a Maynard Ferguson elite type professional model. He gave it up in high school. Again this is amazing, something she will never forget

I remember pi R Squared in math class ............. wait, I know for sure Junior Sample told Grandpa "Pie are round, Cornbread are square"

Re: That moment when...

For those that wanted to see the young musicians play, sad news. The Honors orchestra performance at The Hague has been canceled due to coronavirus precaution. My granddaughter is very sad. The parents are stuck with the hotel bill due to late cancellation as well.
