Well I had an absolute blast!
i'll prob write more later but just q brief summary....
had great time with great friends....
got to spend some quality time with Joe's Dad who has been a fan of me from way back
He couldnt have been nicer to me...in the process i finally got to meet Kevin Shirley and few other folks...just briefly but a special treat indeed
finally meeting Jim m. in person !!! after 15 years of being friends from here...was awesome!
Meeting my great friend Lizzee in person for first time!!! ♥ people who know me fairly well just never talked in person and enjoy shows with.
also having more time to hang with cindyron than other shows
and of course a large group of old and new Bonabuddies - and met Grahm, Kenny (forum) good friend. that was cool
many others but my mind is a blur
i'd been worried about motion sickness but i took the Bonine pill each morning and was ok
some of the venues inside I started to feel queasy but never bad. this is coming from someone who gets sick just thinking about getting sick....
the food was good...a large buffet with something for anyone...drinks were good....the steak restaurant was good
my biggest regret was not getting more shows in...all the experienced cruiser friends had warned me....but I just didnt see enough...but was more than satisfied....
only got of ship to go to tourist shopping right there because welll i got up late etc. if i ever do again, maybe rethink that...i was more than satisfied on the boat but hate to miss a beach....but didnt want to miss boat leaving! we were only in Jamaica for like 7 hours or something...
BCC was great and of course epic. now i did forget my earplugs in the room, my fault, thanksfully Maggie had some tissues i used to help....I was right up front but it was ...way too loud.
no other show that loud...uneccesary too loud IMHO and this happened at the BCC show i saw in 2011? i think....but it wasnt going to ruin my show
such a pleasure to have been able to witness the show...
I also went to a q&a thing the band did with Kevin Shirley too...first audience question was about more touring....there wasn't any distinct answer from what i recall but its a not likely thing I imagine.
So the first night was pretty epic
the second night was the Joe trio shows....too cool. I really enjoy Michael more up front....then and with the full band. I still LOL everytime i hear "a bass player is supposed to...." haha I do recall hearing him saying that in an interview. So glad he is allowed to 'get into it' more and also enjoys it...hard to describe what I mean by that but i like it better than the keep the bass in the back and just to a beat sort of thing. forgive me i dont know the industry bs terms for this.
so, a treat to get the different set and power trio...not sure why called cradle rock...maybe cause they called it a 'new band'? but i kept expecting to hear Cradle Rock
that show the ship was split into two groups as all wouldnt fit in theater at once. They played the same set both shows
then next night was Joe's show...whole ship on the pool deck pretty much....i didnt want to wait long time for front seat but managed to see from the rail above and behind the stage. A different perspective but cool and pretty close and could see my friends up front of the stage. the four new songs were great , can't wait for the album...I guess he'll probably be playing these moving forward, i don't know but Joe played 4 shows in 3 days.....
i didnt catch many full shows but first time seeing Josh Smith and Kirk Fletcher live was great...LOVED the band....
had prob the most fun at the one Jj Grey Mofro show...just joyous!
Marcus King...right up front... !!!
I'm crazy about Danielle Nicole althought didnt catch a whole show but did see her with the north Mississippi All Stars, my first time seeing them...and Steepwater...
there is 3 or 4 shows going on at same time the whole time so its hard to fit in ...oh and only caught Matt Anderson's acoustic set but it was great....
a scary plane ride home Friday and i am still not recovered yet but i had WAY more fun than I thought i could but it was $$$
i'll add more as i think of it
So glad you had a great time, Jane! Too bad about the plane ride home. Hopefully you'll be feeling better soon and can put that part of the trip behind you. ROCK ON!
Best cruise yet...hands down...even with Glenn Hughes forcing me to cover my ears to avoid certain deafness during the last song...don't think Joe will be doing any more BCC deals in the future (just my opinion)...he didn't look like he was having much fun during their set and Glenn went WAY over the top trying to reassure everyone how he loves Joe and there was never any friction between them.....don't think Joe needs him as much as he needs Joe...
Not bad for a brief summary Jane.
thanks...and I did recover from the flight ok its just the whole trip I had....
Also I went to the wine tasting which was nice....the BCC off the record q&a...was ok....I did really enjoy the Meet the Parents which had Joe, his parents, a moderator guy , Roy and his father. I have heard Joe's parents side of the story before mostly but it was cool to be there while they expressed gratitude to Roy and his dad and to be there to hear Roy's story more.. IMO you couldn't leave there and not be glad they originally decided to work together.
they played these on the tvs afterward , not sure if somewhere online to see or not. I missed the one with Joe and Norm but caught some of it in the Atrium area when they played it later on.
When they announced Kenny Wayne Shepherd for next year's cruise......hadnt planned to go again...but KWS! Walter Trout, Samantha Fish !!!! Yowza!
Thanks for the spiel Jane. We’ll never go on one so it's cool to hear of the cruise and fun had by many. I’ve seen some carping online about aspects and behavior that were less than optimal for some fans, but all agreed the music was great.
Any that want to go on the next one should get in early since priority booking of rooms is already in place.
Rick.
yeah apparently many people were saving spots in the chairs on the pool decks...not for a minute to use bathroom or something or for one person...like ex. 5 seats with towels and the people didnt even return and stuff....
i didnt hear it but apparently they were trying to say the ship rule was save a seat cool save two go in the pool...so thats all i know....
also saw complaints about the dance floor in the spinnaker venue....not a raised stage and big dance floor in front then comfy couches and chairs in half round....they had seats on dance floor for some shows but none i attended....they had signs saying dance floor is for dancing....i got up front for Marcus King last show but am reading peeps who got there early for good seats couldnt see....if i could apologize...but Marcus called us up there so...I didn't want to let him down!
most of my Bonabuddies got to front rail HOURS early for Joe...I managed to get decent spot behind and above stage...I enjoyed it there...better to see from behind the stage than a bunch of folk standing in front of me....i just walked around though for shows couldnt see...not sure how would work with ship but if could have a screen above to watch would help some of that...but also learning the venues is key...
i tried to see larkin Poe in the one small place...and it was full so missed it cause only one in if one left and 20 people in front of me...it worked out great for me though cause I ended up crossing paths with Jim Moody when one show on the cruise closes its door, another one opens
also met some cool new people...some funny convos and convo starters
Well I had an absolute blast!

Cheers Ron
All I can say is a great cruise looking forward to KTBA V. Already booked and paid
Great to talk to Jane and hang and partie.
Counting the days until number V for me
Cheers Ron
Had a great time and so looking forward to next year. Winning the grand prize raffle drawing at the beer tasting was the ultimate way to cap off the trip!

What was the Grand Prize?
Rock ON & Meep The Highly Prized (maybe) Faith,

Another video of Cradle Rock full 1st show, away and above from the stage, so sound is different , unedited ( I can hear Michael Rhodes very good here).

A variety of things but most importantly was a meet and greet with Joe that afternoon on the ship and 2 tickets to one of his shows of our choosing! I was shocked when we won it. We never win anything!
