Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

Sandy, others, - whilst what i said about resistance to change is slightly tongue in cheek, to push a few buttons, so pease don’t take it personally, but there are without doubt some of which it is true. The comments about the wish to post photos here sort of confirms it, - posting photos on a message board is 10 years behind, - photos should be on Twitter/Instagram/whatsapp where you can instantly see a Joe gig from anywhere in the world just by following a hash tag. Generalising, - kids/teenagers don’t use Facebook these days. I agree with your point about Joe history disappearing, - rightly or wrongly we are in an instant world now where immediacy of information is seen more important than it becoming an historical artefact, - kids do not buy CD’s, they stream what they want to listen to there and then and see no value in “owning” music.

Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

Thnx for bringing up the thread subscription issue bluesky636 . I have never subscribed to a thread so I didn't know. If they don't address it again here, I'll mention it in an email to JBWM next week with my other comments. Hopefully we will get that back.

As far as other issues, I'll try to summarize other concerns / comments too for the office too.
Personally, I just really want this place to stay. I realize better features might help with participation but also we aren't all near fast internet. Page loading is already an issue with the new main page.
But whatever keeps it going is good for me, and what Jim m said, retaining content.

Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

hi JBWM
first a little test to see if you get notification of a new post in the thread.

The thread subscription feature IS NOT working for a few folks .... if we could get that working it would be fab.

also i have heard from a few fans who  don't participate much here but told me they felt like the new site was just 'the store'
i understand the stats etc. which you all used to chose the front page content from but if it might look less like it is the store and not Joe's main site home page - it might get folks to stay on the page or click around - instead of clicking right out before they bust their budget again!  the store is dangerous for some....(irritating for others...)

i have a few other comments/suggestions.
This message a test of the one feature. ( others pointed out already it wasn't working as you seemed to think it was...)
so trying to figure it out.If you don't reply to this i'll figure you didn't get the notification and send you an email with additional comments later. I have never subscribed to a thread before (just realized 10 years with this forum format yikes ! ) but will do so here for additional data.
Thanks

Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

Hey all,

So yep, I got this notification to my email at 2:59pm, so within a minute of the post.
There's no way for us to really "troubleshoot" the notification system. It's a feature on the board, which we can't improve or edit. If it's working for some and not others, there's no options we can play with to fix it. This whole board is quite antiquated and feature-lean. We can play with the colors... and that's really about it. I know you guys have shown other message boards with more features. We know they exist. The problem is that they're on wildly different platforms and if we switched to them, we'd lose everything. Users, posts, etc. I'm going to be quite frank here. This forum is something we keep going for the fans. You notice we don't try to sell things here, promote products, or anything. It's just a place for you guys to hang out and talk. There's no reason for us to change anything on here. Some of you might want a new feature here and there, but this is the internet. No matter what we do or don't do, people will complain about something. So admins like me will keep browsing on here from time to time, making sure that management knows what fans opinions are, but we don't do much to interfere with YOUR forums. It's for you guys, not us.

Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

Hi Scott, thank you. I also got a notification so hopefully those who have trouble with the feature can figure it out.
(and hopefully the unsubscribe i just did will work wink )

My apologies for seemingly bugging you.
Perhaps some of us misunderstood the intent of your original post!

While some of the comments turned to be about this forum - hey that's where we are - but many are about the new site itself.
and i thought you were asking for suggestions on that. Personally i prefer the way this forum is now but i also understand the suggestions others have given.

I sure don't want to be complaining or do ANYTHING to put this forum in jeapordy. I hink I can speak for most, we have needs and preferences but this is about Joe to us! and we are trying to be helpful. smile
Shame really the value of it isn't recognized beyond a place for us to hang out, but i do understand what you are saying otherwise, and appreciate you being frank. FWIW

Do you still care for feedback on the website beyond the forum (per your original post)?

and truly - if you can play with the colors - and there is no office need or desire for it to be black and red than at least give us back the blue???? NOT a huge deal though - just going off your comment. smile

Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

Hi Bill
i think its safe to say the forum format will stay relatively the same. We can post links to photos. preferrable to many and frankly, the way it is.

on the notification thing though for thread subscriptions - i tried it out myself and noticed something it said. I subscribed to this as a test and it did work perfectly. When i read the notification though i noticed that it said "There may be more new replies, but this is the only notification you will receive until you visit the board again."
so, if you don't log in each time after you receive one notification, you won't get any others. If that makes sense. If you don't log in, it doesn't know you read the thread and it assumes the original notification is still valid. Not sure at all if that is what is going on with you but it seems like it may be the key to getting that working for you, otherwise the previous suggestions perhaps may help. If not feel free to email me and i will do my best to further assist.

Yep, we got a bit off topic for this thread being about the new site, but I just answer what questions I can regardless.

So, I can go on record saying the forum is not in jeopardy. We're keeping it exactly the same. We changed some colors to match Joe's long standing branding and I think it will look more official to new members. If other members want the old color scheme, it can be changed back to blue at any time in your account options.

On to the new site. There's a "mini-store" on the homepage for obvious reasons. Same as why there's a lot of products in the newsletter. We design, make and market all of the products and that money goes right to Joe's company, paying for things like yours truly to talk to fans... but mainly so Joe can keep building, displaying and preserving one of the best collections of guitar history in the world. It's more than his personal collection now, he openly calls it the Bona-seum. The reason we gave the products their own spot on the homepage wasn't just to sell more stuff. We have a separate store for that. It's because the 2 most clicked on things from the old site were Tour Dates and the Store. Fans were directly voting on what should be on the home page. It's also why we put the most clicked on things from the store on to the mini-store. It's to try to give fans a great experience. The reason that the Forum link is now under a "Fans" section is because it didn't get enough clicks to prove to be what most casual fans wanted to find when they went to the site. There's a bunch of you guys on the forums, no question... but we get hundreds of thousands of new people every month going to the site... and sorry to say, they aren't looking for the forum. They want tickets, the new DVD, Joe's Facebook link, or to send Joe a message. That's why the site is laid out the way it is. When you can't please everyone, try to please as many as you can and take the comments with a grain of salt wink

Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

Thanks Scott.
FWIW not a big deal - but the red and black is there until you log in..but yeah not a big deal.

Thank you very much for the additional reassurance on this place!

My comment about the store look on the home site was because long time users of Joe's main site actually thought they had gone to the store, just a little feedback. I get what you said. About the forum link though I guess folks wouldn't know its there to click but yeah if new folks weren't checking it out whatsoever.....most of us longtime users of the forum just go straight here. but that wasn't a biggie to me personally, just trying to represent the overall of the comments

PLEASE though answer me this in all HONESTY - it won't go farther than this forum and us little users - DO THOSE MESSAGES ACTUALLY GO TO JOE???? big_smile I NEED TO KNOW!!!!!!! I did notice that feature and was pleased but am skeptical...been around a while......mumble.....I know Joe can't reply but if I had a good way to send my notes of love knowing he is gonna see them......or at least the chance......please tell me!!! thanks smile !!!!

PS - The Unsubscribe feature works for me too - thank goodness smile

edit to add: earlier when i said ten years with this format - i was just reflecting on how long its been...this used to be 'new' compared to the last forum. hard to believe its been that long, just reminiscing not saying the format itself was old from my viewpoint, i'm getting old!

Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

I am quite happy with the old place as is.  Thanks for the reasoning behind not making the link to the forum more visible.  Glad to see we aren't going anyplace soon.  We do appreciate it.

Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

Hmm, this is kind of strange. Just noticed that there is no button labeled "fans" on the top header when I use an iPad, but all the other buttons are there. So there is no way to access the forum through the jbonamassa site with that device. However, when I am on my laptop it is there.

Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

My tablet thing has a menu in upper right, a few horizontal lines
Then the tabs show up in the middle. Had to try a couple times to click it cause the pop up was competing, but its working for me right now

Well I will be frank also. Your comment makes some feel that anything that is posted on this forum is not that important to anyone but the fans. That somehow bothers me. It seems you do not understand the importance of this forum to most of us fans. Some of us thought this forum was just as important to JR management as it is to us. We felt and heard regularly from JR and sometimes Joe on this forum. THAT IS WHAT MADE IT SPECIAL. I guess that is no longer true. To bad you guys are missing a very big point to all of this. You should rethink this.

Nothing new this place has been the red headed step child of the organization since it's inception having someone from the office post here is the exception not the rule. I don't think anything was meant by the comments made other than we are fans that don't need to be marketed to we are already here. Their priority is new fans that come to the main site and if they do find this that's OK but again it is not the first thing they should see. It still is a great source of information and they have worked to stop the spam. It has always gone through cycles of activity and has always been maintained albeit not at the top of the list priority wise but they have always gotten around to it. This place is what we make it which I like. Fakebook is for the great unwashed and where they spend the lions share of time and effort which is understandable the traffic there is mind boggling. Way too impersonal that is why so many prefer this forum and the groups on Facebook where fans control content. So think of this as our own Facebook group without having to be on Facebook.

Re: New JBonamassa.com Site

Well this fan forum used to be unique when Joe would chime in often, he doesn't do that much any more, if at all, in favour of Twitter and Periscope

Next thing was the street teaming
Where you could get yourself on a meet N greet,
Back in the "old days" you needed to do that to get the secret decoder handshake from Alex to get the pre-sale code too.

Now they're just posted on Facebook..
It's like the Fan Street Team has fallen through too.

So yeah the forum is really just chatter amongst ourselves by the looks of it.
