Topic: Greenwich

What a historic and beautiful setting for a show. While a few sprinkles threatened, the music forced them away. Joanne Shaw Taylor's trio opened with a powerful set. I look forward to seeing her again tonight. She was set up at the front of the stage with Joe and company further back, so the segue was smooth. After a brief break we were off and running.
The set list is the same as the other shows from this tour. Highlights for me were Boogie for Stu, which got everybody seat dancing, Double Crossing Time,  Tea for One/Can't Quit You Baby, and Black Winter/Django. But there's not a bad song in the show.  Joe and the band seemed to be having fun and I think the DVD is going to be awesome. I hope it includes footage of the venue as well as a capture of the stunning pink sky that added to the epic quality of this show. On to Newark

Re: Greenwich

Yeah.... agree with what Cathy said above ! Thankfully it didn't rain(just half an hour of sprinkles)!  A great night!

Re: Greenwich

Agree with Kathy, brilliant night and new set list performed impeccably, as expected, from Joe and the band. Anyone know when dvd will be released? Thank you Joe for memorable night. Can't wait for next visit to London.

Re: Greenwich

Wonderful night and so happy to share the experience with so many of our UK friends. The setting was so majestic with those huge imposing buildings on all sides and Joe and the band's playing was top notch. The "Double Crossing Time" felt like one of the best versions we'd heard yet and when Joe called every one up for "How Many More Times" we made a beeline for the front of the stage. He was set pretty far back from the stage at this show, so we finally felt a little closer to the action. I think this will turn out to be an awesome DVD. It was a beautiful night as well. Couldn't have asked for better weather and a beautiful sunset to top it all off. Here are some photos from the meetup of Bonafamily before the show as well as photos during the show: https://www.flickr.com/photos/anitrasda … 0758342586

Re: Greenwich

My take, and if you are looking for another kiss ar5e rose tinted opinion please skip reading this:

A lovely setting as has been said before, - Greenwich the home of the Meridian line, where East meets West and time is set. It is a an area of London the at first appears well off/rich, but dig a bit deeper and it is not, a lot of very poor families that live in the area. But this was not a show for the locals, it was for the checked shirt wearing silver haired man and his well tanned wife in their Rolls Royce parked by the gate. Blues these days seemingly has very little to do with its roots.... Greenwich was one of the largest ports in England bringing in slaves from Africa.

An interesting show, as Joe said himself, playing songs that the vast majority had never heard him play before is a bit different, - and it was a great concert to sit there and absorb, - although to add a little after-thought,  whilst understanding that it was a tribute to Jimmy Page when you play Led Zep songs there will always be something missing without Plant’s voice, whoever does it. - “How Many More Times” was excellent because of the interplay between Michael and Joe. The Clapton/Beck songs worked very well, “SWLABR” very enjoyable.

I was seated in the rear block, and I think because of that I felt slightly detached from the show, not a fault of Joe and the band at all, more to do with the venue and the fact that pricing structure in my opinion attracts people with a lot of money and perhaps not a lot of Joe or concert experience or etiquette. The entire evening there was a procession of people getting up, walking about, talking, getting a glass of champagne etc. However it changed, when as said above Joe beckoned for everybody to abandon their seats and come forward, once closer to stage I felt part of what was going on, - I think it was for the last 3 songs.

In spite of what may appear as negative I did enjoy the evening immensely, privileged to have been there.

Re: Greenwich

Ian, let me be clear, my glasses are clear and I'm more likely to kick arse than kiss it. While I'm sorry your seats made you feel detached, my far from posh self enjoyed my second row seats which were bought thru normal channels. Joe did exactly what he said he was going to do, he paid homage to Beck, Clapton and Jimmy Paige. So, I reiterate, it was a great show.

Re: Greenwich

Cathy, thankfully in this world two people can see the same show and have a different perspective, you have yours and I have mine, neither one is more valid than the other, although perhaps read mine again and you will see that I have not said that it was bad show, our opinions are close, I just experienced something different to you. My comments are about the location/venue,, - and of course you will have had a completely different experience when you have only one row of people in front of you to somebody who has 100 lines of people in front and one stands up and blocks 50 or so people from seeing as happened. Nice to have met you before the show albeit briefly.

Re: Greenwich

- just looked at a couple of Natasha’s videos from Newark, - and is the same thing, people up and walking around, - such a shame, - I think I read similar complaint about Red Rocks from a few people.:(

Well this is one of the reasons why I am looking forward to Joe's concert in Basel next friday. It is an open-air with only standings :-) We won't see anybody late walking in and looking for a seat.

Yeah, a lot of people walking around during the Newark show and usually the same ones over and over. Some people just can't sit still. I swear one guy got up about 5 times. Red Rocks did have a similar issues for me when I was there for the Muddy Wolf show and that's why we decided to do the UK tour with the standing shows instead of Red Rocks. Wish Joe would consider doing some special small club standing shows in the US. Love seeing him up close and he and the guys feed off the energy at the standing shows in a way that can't compare with the seated ones.

Red Rocks was great no one walking around in my area. We will see how it is next week

Re: Greenwich

Just been watching this show on youtube for the first time (I myself caught the Newark Castle show). I'm just wondering who the other Marshall stack was for? We had Joe's customary Fender's and the other guitarists JB Marshalls but this 'other' single Marshall wasn't on stage at Newark. Was there supposed to be a special guest using this amp I wonder????

They weren't used by anyone. They were there for show to replicate Beck's amps.

We had a woman dance in front of us for 2/3 of the first Red Rocks show. She blocked the view and although it was a bit annoying, we didn't let it ruin the show for us. I understand the need to get up and dance on occasion, but when 99.9% of the people are sitting, you should have some awareness of the people around you.

Re: Greenwich

- thought that I read it on here that somebody was not so happy at Red Rocks. Not good.
I guess it is invertible that as Joe has become a “name” he will attract the plebs, - first noticed at Hammersmith, just as Joe made it big and first played there with people calling out in quiet moments, - alcohol! The problem with seated gigs is that 1/3rd of the audience have prostate problems so need to go to the toilet every 15 minutes, others cannot go 15 minutes without a drink, leaving the rest of us who want to absorb the show! smile

Re: Greenwich

Ian, you forgot the pain in the **** whistlers who try to deafen all around them with their talents (or lack). My left ear is still not right after the whistler at Preston decided to deafen me. Whistlers and walkers have one thing in common and it begins with 'w' and ends in 's' also. sad

Come on the Blades (sorry Idolbone just had to borrow your line)
