Topic: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

Hi,
I'm new to the site. British blues fans of a certain age will recognise the name! (It's a Northern thing!)

Discovered Joe's music a couple of years ago and was blown away; as significant a day as discovering Pink Floyd back in the day.

Went to the rained-off Hoghton Tower concert only to be re-directed on to Preston. I looked a complete muppet wandering round the Guildhall in wellies, woolly clothes and a sou'wester.

Loved the music; the new re-interpretation was stunning I thought. I especially like "Pretending".

As I'm new to this forum stuff hope my new friends will forgive a few mistakes at the start.!

Re: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

Hi again (part 2),

Lovely to get welcomes. Thought I'd post some more info.

I'm over 60  and started learning contemporary guitar aged 14. Then heard Pink Floyd during my first week at  Birmingham University (1969) and........was lost for ever.

I first heard Joe on BBC Radio 2, 'Story of a Quarryman' and then I saw the video of him in a pin-stripe suit at the Royal Albert Hall gig (2009) and thought:

"Whoa!  Joe Bonamassa!  Looks like an accountant, sounds like an archangel!" (I think Raphael was the one with stringed instrument.)

The music is in a different league to any thing I've heard in all my years. Just love it.

Highlights for me are the heart-rending "Happier Times" with 2 drummers, Messrs Bowles and Fig which then Joe did on accoustic guitar with jazz overtones at the Radio City Concert. Just genius.

Can anyone tell me where the philosophical musings in tiny grey writing at the bottom of each post come from? Is this from the webmaster or do I have to dream up my own?

Re: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

Those mystical writings are additions you can put in your profile. If you want to put an avatar picture, you have to shrink it with some editor so it fits. You can't put photos in here like other sites, you only can post links to an external host. I think you have to have 15 or 20 posts before you can place links in your text.
Cheers,
Rick

Re: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

Absolutely fair comment.

As Joe always turns up in a drop- dead Versace suit, must try harder next time! I'm thinking a sort of pensioner-Gothic look ? smile

Re: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

hi, welcome (also to other new folks...i don't always post in this section)

anyway to get the 'signature line', when you are logged in, go to your profile (link upper right)
and once there you should see a link to 'signature'

hope that makes sense/works, if not let me know smile

i like to change mine up from time to time

Re: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

Thanks Jane. Sorry to be a dimwit but is the "signature" line the bit which says where you're from on the left of the post?

Bear with me I'll get it all soon!!

Will have to get a new lappie tho' soon. Mine is falling to bits still trying to use Windows XP, so will have to update p.d.q.

Bring back Windows 98, that's what I say. smile

Re: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

oh no not dimwitty at all
took me a while to figure all this out too

when you are logged in, and you go to your profile, there are various options on that page. i think its the "Identity " tab to the left of the signature tab where you can put where you are from. there are a few things there you can customize.

i'm with you on the windows 98!

Re: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

Many thanks Jane. Nice to meet such helpful people.

Re: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

Greetings.

Not sure as a newbie where to post this yet!

Having seen Joe in the UK 3 times in the last 10 months (at Liverpool, Birmingham and Preston) I notice there are no gigs for

the rest of '16 in the UK and '17 is looking a bit thin too! Don't think I can cope.

Do the People Who Know These Things know when the next UK visit is likely?

Also what do all the labels on the left -hand side of the posts saying "Platinum, Bonametal "etc all mean?

Re: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

Hiya. General Topics would do. I would put money on Joe being back in the UK next year - keep checking this forum for updates.
He is due to be making new albums with Beth Hart & Black Country Communion so he may also tour them but I think it would be on  a limited basis.

Platinum etc is linked to the number of posts posted on this forum.

Re: Hi from Auntie Wainwright

You can expect a long gap now, although with the BCC recording in the spring and probably a tour you may have your chance then. The labels depend on the number of posts you have made and change automatically. big_smile
Sorry it appears Kenny posted at the same time so you get two answers.
