You know, I would much rather see his band than Genesis on their Last Domino tour with Phil in a wheelchair. He will be coming to the states next year but these are rescheduled concerts due to Covid. The closest he gets to me is Atlanta GA in April at the Variety Playhouse. That venue sucks, I would never go back there ever again to see anybody

I have always been an early Genesis fan, and as a very poor guitarist myself have much admired the work of Steve Hackett. He is putting out some great shows now in England and elsewhere. I know, Nad's vocals are not quite as good as Peter and Phil's, but they are good enough for remakes. Endeavor to see them if you get the chance, you won't regret it

I do endeavour to see them every chance I get and I don't regret it. My only concert of 2021 was Steve Hackett in October on the Seconds Out tour. Tomorrow I shall essay to buy tickets for his 2022 Foxtrot @ 50 tour smile

It's funny, I don't particularly care for Genesis, except when Mr Hackett is revisiting it. I managed to get front row tickets at Sheffield City Hall for next year smile

I first saw a vid of Eric playing with Marcus King and was impressed. He has a new one coming out soon

pretty good recording here from his early days. I was able to see Robin on Procul's Broken Barricades tour in the early 70s, just tremendous with Brooker on piano and vocals ................ RIP James Dewar

I did not know it was already out but had seen the short promo for the barn rebuild. He had said it has near perfect acoustics, he should know

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

this is one of my favs off of Barn, just because it sounds a lot more like old Crazy Horse. Not really thrilled with all of the backing vocals, they could have nixed those

I had not listened to much of his solo stuff prior to his death, same as it was with Gary Moore. And for whatever reason I have always disliked Fleetwood Mac. He was quite brilliant, this is really good

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

This song always hits me in the gut.  I remember playing it over and over when my first wife was recovering from her double lung transplant.  The message was like a mantra to me and God gave me 5 and a half more years together with her .  In two weeks it'll be 8 years ago....

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

I know I've posted him before, not much new here. He's still the most brilliant guitarist I have ever witnessed, not just the speed but his picking techniques and melodic phrasing are just amazing. This is just one of his bands, Powers of Ten, and no it has nothing to do with marijuana  ......................... RIP Shawn. If you don't listen to all of it then at least check out Get You Back and West Side Boogie

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Big thanks to Jdog for this shout during the Christmas holidays. It seems big noises are coming out of France these days. I've already shouted about the incendiary fret-work of Felix Rabin; now along comes an almost primal howl of vocals from one Flo Bauer and his band Circle of Mud.

Check these out:-

It's not Flo's first foray on the scene; you can find him, all tousled haired on a 2014ish French version of The Voice (can't have been more than 16 or so, back then.). Pre-pandemic, he cut an album Flo Bauer's Blues Project; while not as explosive as Circle of Mud, you can see the genesis.

A band I'm certainly going to be watching out for.

Jack J Hutchinson - The Hammer Falls (2021/2)

So, either the last album of 2021 or the first one of 2022, depending on how fast the postman was. Whichever way up, Jack and the band (Lazarus Michaelides on Bass & Felipe Amorium on Drums) deliver one glorious hard rockin’ disc that plunders influences from the best of Classic Rock and NWOBHM. At times, there’s echoes of late 70’s UFO, vying with touches of Uriah Heep and then such as The Ravens Crow brings early Diamond Head to mind, with it’s heavy, almost Sabbath-like riffing. What Doesn’t Kill You is pure, old-school Maiden, Michaelides nailing a Steve Harris type bass run till Jack J’s guitar screams in for the solo much like Smith or Murray. And World On Fire would sit well on any Ozzy album (but don’t tell Sharon….)

“The Blues” then, is still there, though trying to spot it is like looking down the wrong end of a telescope; when you get titles like Straight To Hell, The Hammer Falls, Angel of Death & Gunslinger, you know this isn’t dinner-party background musak, but to be fair, Angel of Death is probably the “softer” number on the album, though it smoulders through the speakers. On the other hand, Jack J has been shaping up for a while as a damn fine writer and performer and there’s plenty of tone and texture on here for the most discerning palette. There’s many a hall-filling name would re-mortgage their soul for an album of this caliber - and it’s only the 1st week of January.

Dear America was released last September and I've only heard a few of the songs. It is hard to believe that he is 70 years young. Ron Carter (bass) and Eric Gales are guests on it among others. What a talent, it took way too long to get him recognized after 23 album releases

Just great for a laid back Saturday or Sunday morning. Kenny is age 90 now with 84 albums to his credit. The first release was in 1956, the last one in 2016. I can do that math

I did listen to a little of it, and I guess bottom line it's just not Rush so I won't link you up. I didn't care for Liar, it sounds like Poe singing with, well, Alex on guitar. I am intrigued to hear the song Western Sunset when the rest is released. As I understand it, this is his tribute to Neil Peart
