Re: What song are you listening to right now?

I'm using www.last.fm to track my iTunes plays now, and I just got my first weekly chart. So here is my top 10 artists for the week of December 30-January 6:

1. Stevie Ray Vaughan And Double Trouble with 33 plays
2. Foo Fighters with 29 plays
3. Led Zeppelin with 25 plays
4. Bob Seger with 22 plays
4. Joe Bonamassa with 22 plays
6. Los Lobos with 20 plays
7. Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers with 17 plays
8. The Fabulous Thunderbirds with 16 plays
9. Greg Giraldo with 14 plays
10. Arc Angels with 13 plays
10. Ron White with 13 plays

The Foo Fighters have been a big part of my listening experience lately. I'm a later comer to their music but I'm starting to dig their stuff more and more. If you haven't picked up their newest Echoes, Silence, Patience, & Grace, pick it up. Sure they're mainstream, but they're really good, and are one of the greatest bands of our time. Two comedians also made the list: Ron White and Greg Giraldo. A bunch of the usual suspects are also here, guys like Zeppelin, SRV, Bob Seger, JOE BONAMASSA, The Fab T-Birds, Arc Angels, and John Fogerty. Interesting enough, two huge ones, Eric Clapton and ZZ Top did not make the top 10 this week. If you haven't picked up John Fogerty's newest, Revival, I suggest you do it NOW. His best stuff since at least Centerfield, and maybe his best since the CCR days. Well, that's it. We'll see what it looks like next week.

Edit: had to reupdate this because apparently the list doesn't reupdate right away, so the final totals were posted on Monday.

I have heard the one you're talking about, and I may have even posted a link here. It was great...I know I emailed it around, was quite some time back though...maybe a year or two ago

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

Yes thats it Stu and Jane...thats the one I heard...only once though until now....man that dudes got an amazing voice ....hey Jane I respect your opinion....we all have our own....the original still moves me like no other....but none the less, that was very cool....I'm beyond angry why Joe gets no respect by local radio....guess we cant ever give up pumping Joe on the so called "request line"....hell I email, call the radio stations for Bonamassa...even went down there personally with a shiny new copy of "Sloe Gin" as well as the "Rockpalast" DVD... they were still rapped in the plastic.....I think I emailed all my forum friends when I did that back when the CD came out...hell they didnt even acknowledge it until 2 MONTHS AGO...that was after me prodding them...I think there response was..... "oh yeah we got them, he's fantastic....dont know if we can afford him though"....they were referring to gigs they sponsor around Sactown in the summer time....my thoughts were like WTF!!...come on now...what does that got to do with playing some "Sloe Gin" on the radio....bunch of weaners!!!

Dave

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

That wasn't the version I heard. The cover I heard was heavy/electric...

Tired of waiting for AC/DC to release a new album? This band may fill in nicely, and they're Aussies as well.(Minus the schoolboy outfit... wink )

Year Long Disaster-Leda Atomica

http://youtube.com/watch?v=zATNakmM07U

When Daniel Davies was learning to play guitar at fourteen, his dad complained about the noise — not unusual, except that his father is the Kinks' Dave Davies. "Even when your dad does something cool for a living, he's still your dad," says Daniel, who picked up the instrument in order to bond with his father. Over the years, Daniel's noisy skronk evolved into Zeppelin-style anthems. Now he channels that spirit in the L.A. trio Year Long Disaster.

With Davies' reedy yowl, Richard Mullins' speed-rock bass line and drummer Brad Hargreaves' assured rhythms, YLD play raw, Seventies-style rock with exotic song titles: "Per Qualche Dollaro In Piu" takes its name from Davies' Italian poster for Clint Eastwood's For a Few Dollars More, and "Leda Atomica" is the title of a Salvador Dali painting.

Re: What song are you listening to right now?

I heard a Gov't Mule cover of Simple Man that blows any other version I've ever heard out of the water.  Dare I say:  even the original. :gasp:

As for what song I am listening to right now:  I Know Why the Sun Don't Shine by the Rumbledown Band (Paul Kossoff/Frankie Miller/Andy Fraser and Co.).  Can't get enough of this song.  It is no wonder that Clapton allegedly asked Kossoff to show him his vibrato technique when Free was touring with Blind Faith...

Definitely.  Especially if you dig the whole jam band kinda thing.  It is (obviously) a bit longer than the original, but that kind of thing has never bothered me.
