Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

IM new to this board and I really like Joes original stuff but I think that the covers he does shows great respect to the artists that did them first. So having said that id like to hear Joe do as the crow flys by Rory Gallagher. I would also like to thank Joe for turning my 18 year old daughter into a blues fan. I took her to see Joe at the WC Handy Blues Fest and it was awesome.

Sly & the Family Stone - I want to take you higher

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I Personally think Joe need a song with room for a twist....a bonamassa twist.

I wouls say COULDNT STAND THE WEATHER        (SRV)

                 RED HOUSE               (Jimi Hendrx)

                 BRIDGE OF SIGHS       (Robin Trower)

                 WHISKEY      (Jimmy D Lane)

I woke up this mornin', cant find my shoes.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

Looks like this thread has been ressurected so I'll chip in since I'm a newbie. The problem with doing too many covers is that he might get labeled a clone or unoriginal and I would hate that to happen . I personally love Joes own stuff, but if we're talking covers then I think he would excel at any stuff  Rory Gallaghers covered. As mentioned before

Million Miles Away and  I Wonder Who

would suit both vocally/musically and are free enough to let Joe stamp them with his own mark.

Joe really is one of the few new artists who can successfully play blues and also rock out just like Rory did.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

money,money....grateful dead...I want everyone to play it because they only played it once.rockin' horse ...gov't mule.walk all night...little feat.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

Whole Lotta Love, complete with the assorted guitar-created sound effects through the middle of the song. Can't you hear Joe at the end of the song singing "Waaaaaay down inside....." similar to how he sings "Sure got it bad..." at the end of Blues Deluxe???

Can I get an "Amen" from the gallery here?

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

How 'bout "Oh, Well" by Peter Green since Joe is releasing an acoustic album?

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I was actually just listening to this song....Aint Gonna Give Up on Love....Ive heard eric clapton, john mayar cover this song....SRV oviously was great at it......I really think the song has great potential......Joe could play that song soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo freaking good.  just thinking of it makes me grin.

JOE----If you read this----play "AINT GONNA GIVE UP ON LOVE" when you come to MINNEAPOLIS !!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!!

I woke up this mornin', cant find my shoes.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

This one's sorta out of left field, but "Angry Eyes" by Loggins and Messina was on XM about a week ago and I couldn't help but think what a smokin version Joe could do. I know this doesn't fit in with the type of songs most fans want to see Joe cover, but I could see Joe makin it his own.

Ok, I have a new one. After watching him and listening to his Real Live cd it would be anawesome site to see Joe play with Frank Marino! I have been ressurected once again by Crankin Frank!

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

Nothing personal but some of these choices would be terrible. The last thing i would want to hear is Joe do a SRV cover. We all know he can clone SRV with the best of them but he is better then that!! I would rather see him do an old BB King tune and own it!!!
I really dont mean to offend anyone but the guy is MORE then a guitar player and I think most of us who play guitar are stuck in that mind set. We tend to look at it as an athletic achivement to play a heros tune. The first time I heard SRV do Texas Flood I was blown away!!! THe reason was it was the first time I heard someone express such emotion on 6 strings. The texas sound was new to me at that time. Anyone else doing it is not going to do it justice.  I would much rather see Joe make his own Texas Flood, his own Stairway to heaven, then copy some other guitar hero. Like I said he is better then that copying.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

Is this the right forum?... I like the way JB incorportated Starship Trooper into the set, the the current one, Dazed & Confused (utterly stunning)... what should he incorporate next? My vote is for Hocus Pocus by Focus, preferably without the yodelling or whistling. JB playing Jan Aakerman? (oh, I'm buggered if I know how to spell it)... sounds like a match made in heaven.

As far as cover versions are concerned, anything by the sublime Rory would go down a treat, especially any of his acoustic stuff - got to echo the request of A Million Miles Away, although does anyone remember Just The Smile? What about Secret Agent? Bullfrog Blues?

Finally, I think The Code (see previous) has one of the best riffs ever, it's not a good JB song... I just wish Clapton would play it....

Re: Covers you would love to hear Joe do

I think it would be awesome to hear "Wasted Time" Gov't Mule with his 335 pouring out some sweet tones, he also could make "soulshine" his own too.... this could go on and on, but anything that Joe put out there is awesome, he seems to pick his songs very very well and the amount of emotion that he instill in his songs is next to none...
