Re: Gibson to raise prices for 2015

Heritage makes nice guitars.

And there's something 'bonding' between musician and the guitar when you tune it. Tuning is part of a guitars personality.

Re: Gibson to raise prices for 2015

Used is definitely the way to go these days. There have been a couple of offerings recently that I thought were worth buying new (Signature T, Traditional Mahogany Satin), but for the most part Gibson's pricing is flat out ridiculous. Les Pauls are my favorite guitars but I'm sorry...some of those prices are just silly for non-custom shop stuff.

Re: Gibson to raise prices for 2015

I like the auto-tuners but certainly don't want them on every guitar. I have one of the Robot LP studios from 2012 and that's enough for me.

Personally, I don't see the appeal of many of the new 2015 guitars, and I've scratched my head at the USA range a lot in the last couple of years. They seem to in some respects drifting away from the vintage and hand-crafted bouquet that Gibson was renowned for. Now the new guitars give the essence of a mass-industrial churn-out. Having tried a couple of the 2014 models they seem more focussed on stuffing the guitars with loads of electronics as standard and not concentrating on harnessing the natural resonance of a quality-crafted guitar.

People used to ask me how the hell at my age I could have 2 Gibsons, but now I just say it's nothing special.
You play one of the 59 reissues followed by a 20xx standard and sometimes they seem completely unalike.

Xavier,

You playing a Zappa Roxy SG in your avatar?  I have one (signed by Dweezil) and it's one of the best playing guitars I own.  Put's 99% of mine to shame with how smooth the action is.

Musician's Friend posted up videos of the 2015 Line Up (10/1/14)

That link is of their entire video listings ... so the 2015's are recent adds and at the top ... but will move down as link gets "old".

Here is the link for just the 2015 Standard: (get to see how the pick guard snaps into the PU rings .. hmmm.)

Re: Gibson to raise prices for 2015

If people don't want their EZ tune systems, they go for a few hundred on eBay... so that price hike has some value... same with the brass zero nut. People rip them off for bone nuts or whatever and you can resell those items.

Only trying out in the shop I'm afraid. Didn't have the money to take the guitar home at the time.
Really wish I had, was a decent replica for not as much money as one would expect.

+1
Yes the limited 400 made Zappa Roxy is a very cool Sg.......:)

I'm not a huge fan of the "LES PAUL 100" on the 2015's headstock.....as well of the Mini tuners....yuck

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Re: Gibson to raise prices for 2015

So I tried out the new gibson lp. I will never buy a new gibson again unless it is from the Custom Shop. What a inferior guitar for the $4000 price tag. You get these tuners that are automatic tuning, if one breaks guess what forget about changing with anyone else's but theirs. Oh and by the way I was told they do not offer them without this tuning feature. So if you what the standard tuners forget it. So start buying all the older Les Paul's you can find before they go up because the new ones stink My two cents

I've read others say the same thing...is it possible that at Gibson they want us all to go Custom Shop????

It really makes no sense at all what they are doing. Horrible taste with the 2014 line with that ugly inlays, now they are going to ruin the 2015 production with all these useless futuristic toys, then what???

And the price???  do they not think that people will go looking for used guitars or worst go buy some new guitars from other brands? If i have to decide between a new 2015 Gibson and a PRS, i will go with PRS, because they have far better quality, BUT also because they are still "real" guitars, not toys, and NOW these's not that much price difference!

i repeat the question: "do they want us all to go Custom Shop???"

Fender John Mayer, Clapton CS, Ash Tele Am. You can take out the EZ tune and replace them with Grovers or whatever on your own is what I'm told. That's really no different than replacing the stock tulip klusons for Grovers, only you could probably sell the EZ tune for some good money. If an EZ tuner was broken, I wonder how they would fix it without replacing the entire thing. hmm

I'm on the fence to think EZ tune is a toy. I think it'd be useful to going open tuning and other variations. You can still use the pegs to tune your guitar manually... and hopefully no guitars will sound out of tune at the guitar store!

The tuners looked really cheap to me. Yeah you can buy a new guitar and change the tuners. But really no one should have to do that, it's a new guitar. Also to not have the option to buy without auto tune is just stupid. Just my two cents

Clearly EZ tune should be optional. Whoever came up this crazy idea to force them on everyone by putting  them on all the new Gibsons is ignorant. My two cents.

Hopefully the market response will be lower sales and they'll bring back other options. I know I won't buy a guitar with that. In the same spirit, I also won't buy a car with an automatic transmission either, and my choices there are dwindling in the US. :-)

I remember Joe saying never again would he shop for guitars on Ebay but given the 2015 lineup I will probably be browsing more often now.

With his travel, it has to be more satisfying to hit all the local shops. When I was in CA a couple weeks ago, I hit a couple shops.

http://www.gryphonstrings.com/ was a small place, heavy focus on acoustic, and I had to stop and get a t-shirt for my son Griffin.

http://www.guitarshowcase.com had a very cool showcase room of vintage guitars

Joe travels enough where he can hit many guitar shops and actually play them.
We usually don't venture out that much. As long as there's a return policy, it's ok to make the educated purchase. Other sites have it fine too. Musicians Friend. I actually like Guitar Center Online 1000 times more than the two stores in the Detroit area.
