Topic: How long can you be "master of your domain?"

Reading the threads over the past few years, I think I can safely say we are all music lovers.  Not just Joe.  I have thousands of songs on my Ipod, from dozens of artists.  I go in spurts, I'll really get into Classic Rock, then old Blues, lately it's been early English Blues/Rock.  John Mayall and the Blues Breakers, Cream, Blind Faith, etc.  I always sprinkle in a little Joe.  After about 7-10 days it's like, I can't take any more of this crap, I need a serious dose of Joe and I pick out a Joe album, any Joe album and crank it up to 10 and I'm off.  There is no bring me back for days.  What are your listening habits like.  LONG LIVE JOE, LONG LIVE JOE, LONG LIVE JOE.

The only thing we deserve, is an opportunity.  Everything else has to be earned.

Most of the time I listen to music, it's on my iPod.  I'm pretty eclectic - Lucinda Williams one minute, Dokken the next, then on to Phish.  Blues is probably my favorite single genre, but I also love classic rock, metal, jazz, country, fusion...  Very much depends on my mood, but sometimes a bit of randomness.

Joe is probably one of the more frequent artists I listen to - not quite daily, but pretty close most weeks I'll put on something by him.  I do go in phases though, especially with some of my bigger influences that I've burned out on a bit: Hendrix, Zeppelin and SRV.  A couple times a year I'll get back into them for a week or so and rediscover why I love them so much, but it's not day-to-day.

The Allman Brothers Band is my favorite band of all time.  Great writing, great musicianship, everything from tight 3-4 minute classics to 20 minute instrumental jams.  Perfect blend of blues, rock, country and jazz - pretty much everything I like about music in one band.

I just downloaded the new Allman Brothers Filmore shows - 6 cds worth. 15 of the tracks are unreleased. I grew up in Louisiana and Texas so the ABB is close to my heart.

Also, because July 30th was the anniversary of Jimi Hendrix's Rainbow Bridge concert I listened to the 2 concerts and watched the movie and then listened to the Hendrix soundtrack of the jams that produced it. I keep waiting for the Space Brothers to come and get me ...

I listen to most of my music in my car since I drive around all day for work.
My main interest is blues rock.But I am a big fan of just plain old rock,hard rock,blues,progressive rock,jazz and jazz rock fusion..Lately I have been into what is considered space rock as well.
I do not listen to Joe in a daily basis but he is always prominent in my mix.
I find that I try to keep from overplaying the same cd.If I play something too often then I can get tired if it.
What I choose to listen to is influenced quite a bit by the mood I am in at the time.Right now in summer I like to play a lot of music that's upbeat "party" music.In the winter I listen to a lot of more progressive and fusion music.

Good topic.  I listen to music all day while I am at my desk at work.  And always in my car.  80% of the time it is some form of Joe Bonamassa or one of  his collaborations.  I often listen to the Radio at my desk and keep it on a Classic Country station or Classic Rock.  I have hundreds of songs on my Windows Media player that  I often put on shuffle and just let it play.  I have tons of Gary Moore, Warren Haynes, Joe of course, Beth Hart, Ray Charles, Billy Joel, Pink Floyd, Boston, Radney Foster Big Band music, Eagles, etc.....  I must admit I sometimes listen to Spotify if I am not familiar with an artist that I hear about on the forum or elsewhere.   But I can tell you this that I usually do not go more than a day or too with out hearing Joe in some shape or fashion.   I just need to hear it.   so that is what makes me a bona maniac.

On my Ipod I only have Joe and Gary Moore

Interesting.  I guess I am what a I consider an obsessive listener.  I find something I like and listen to it till I can't stand it any longer, usually a week or less.  If it is good enough it makes it to the permanent favorites playlist I listen to between obsessions.   Since finding Joe it has been a little different.  Still in the 'honeymoon' phase I guess.  I have spent time on the 'Other Artists' forum looking for what else I may have missed all this time. While I have found lots of good stuff it doesn't take but 5 minutes and I am back listening to Joe.  I think Samantha Fish lasted for 10.

Heavy rotation of Joe, but I listen to lots of other stuff as well.
Allman Bros. have always been my favorite band until Joe pushed them to #2.
In no particular order, these are in a fairly frequent rotation:
Jeff Beck, BB, Led Zep, SRV, ELP, early Aerosmith, Robin Trower, Robben Ford, Rory, Sonny Landreth, The Beatles, Al DiMeola, Van Morrison, Robert Cray, Eric Steckel, BDS/Davy Knowles....

I listen to all the "old stuff" but I'm general I am searching out new music all the time and most  of my music rotation features recordings done in the last 5 years.The older stuff gets pulled out as well.I do return to the music of  my   "Ahem" youth as well.Seeing as I have listened to Led Zep  songs for instance about 10,000 times each I rarely pull them out as much these days.But when I do I still dig em.
I still get a jolt out of finding a great new band or album that comes out.

Like some of the previous posters, I too get in a phase of listening to a certain artist.  For me, it's usually a case of exploration of that particular artist.  For instance, I have yet to listen to an entire Joe album.  Seriously, I listen to one or two songs and then I'm off exploring another album of his.  I bounce all over the place.   I think the only albums I've actually heard all the songs on are Sloe Gin, LFNIP and the Vienna CD.  It's more fun to explore Joe's music this way, at least for me.  I just heard the song Miss You, Hate Your for the first time a month ago.  I'll hear it all eventually. 

I have music on all the time.  I listen to my radio station while I'm at work which is a Classic Rock/Hard Rock type station. (I play plenty of Joe!) I listen to my mp3 player while on the bus to and from work.  When I'm writing, I put on a CD that fits my frame of mind to help spark my creativity. As a matter of fact the book I'm publishing this fall (fingers crossed) several chapters were written while listening to the Vienna CD.

I do have my favorites that I listen to daily or weekly. It depends on mood on who I pull from my CD collection.


I do like to explore which has led me to some great finds.

Finding a new group is the best.   My biggest find of course was Joe on XM Radio.  My favorite new band that I just found a couple months ago is Buddahead.  Their "Howlin' at the Moon" album is great.  First half is pretty rocking the second half is really good Blues.  Great Guitar work.

Ahhh, yep, there really is an S at the end of the band name and that disc I like the music, very much, but among other things sounds to me like vocals weren't in the same room as the rest for example.  But like I said, my opinion.  Perhaps absolutely terrible is an exaggeration but I thought a better mix would have elevated it from really good to something special. Again JMO. I hope I didn't offend you or anything.  Just conversation.

Absolutely! Great post, just wanted to know which direction you were coming from.  Guys like you keep the rest of us honest.  Good for you.  I like it, keeps me from getting sloppy.  Keep it up.

I have 3 iPods (160gb, 60gb, 32gb) and a 32gb USB drive on my car.  I'm almost always on shuffle.  My iTunes library is a little over 44,000 songs, so I have a lot of variety.  But having the whole JB catalog ensures he pops up often.

My heaviest rotation at the moment is reserved for Aynsley Lister and King King, but I too go through phases. I stream music all day while I'm working - I enjoy discovering new artists, then I buy the CDs that I really like. I recently discovered Indigenous, Trampled Underfoot and Eric Steckel and love their stuff. And when I'm having a stressful working day I turn to something soothing from the likes of Keb' Mo', Robert Cray or Alison Krauss, that usually sorts me out smile

PS Goes without saying that Joe gets lots of play - particularly in the car and on DVD.

I have had Howlin At The Moon for about 6-7 years and love that cd!
