Re: joe should headline glastonbury

Jane over here these large crowds are very controlled, - one of the reasons that I will never go again to another Hyde Park gig is that once you are in you are kettled into segregated areas and can get nowhere near the stage. Before Download was Download it was Donington "Monster of Rock” and that was a free for all.

it is interesting how Bruce has described it, and having been to a festival like this I know what he is getting at, although not sure that he as actually described it well enough. A few years back festivals like this were filled with a diverse mix of people from all backgrounds who were there for the music, (and probably the drugs as well), but those common interests bound them together. Nowadays there is a “class” or a group who are there because they believe it is the “in” thing to do, - they are there to be seen, or in reality to take selfies and post them up on Facebook along with a tag about them being “totally wasted”, - perhaps they should be the "Valley Girl” class? Because they are not there primarily for the music, - their outfits are similar, - girls in £100 Hunter wellington boots, denim cut off shorts, Jack Wills shirts.... They are perhaps the aspirational class, - they want to be somebody or cool, but in reality are without depth, - just a group of lemmings. And that is what these festivals have become, sadly.

We do the class thing pretty well here, - but perhaps not as defined as India, - but these are not what we would call “upper” class (they may think that they are), and they are not working class, hence seen as the middle class here.

Re: joe should headline glastonbury

- Metallica’s set as shown last night on BBC TV and was extremely good, - they just get their heads down and let it rip. Crowd look to be enjoying it as well.

Yes - They tore it up.

Getting the metal heads on the stage was a great idea.

Could have done without Lars' foul mouthed 'thank you' at the end - Just what is he trying to prove?

Prove? Nothing, that's just Lars and, unfortunately, that stuff is just part of the show and expected from 'metal' acts.

Re: joe should headline glastonbury

yes Jane, - heavy “metal” bands have not been playing Glastonbury over the years, - it is more Indie Rock with a few leftfield artists thrown in. But in fairness to Micheal Eavis he will take a chance and try something different and this year when he announced Metallica there was a lot of negativity including social media campaigns against James Hetfield because he has dared to commit the sin of hunting animals rather than buy it pre slaughtered and packed from a supermarket. Interetsig that the Facebook campaign against Hetfield showed a picture of somebody with a dead bear but they had not realised that the picture was not Hetfield, but it still got spread because those that were anti did not bother to check their facts! smile

So Metallica in an act of absolute genius put together a film that is a fantastic laugh at us Brits and our strange ways (if you can’t laugh at yourself then...... don’t get out of bed).

This is it and well worth attaching all the way through including titles: http://youtu.be/L3BSjV0IkWU

Brilliant.

Lars is Lars - a gobby Danish twat (sorry for the profanity, but it nails him to a T) I was most surprised that Hetfield kept his language safe! He normally changes every other word in the lyrics to "Mothercooker" or something like that.

Glad they played two od my favourite songs of all time - Fade to Black and For whom the Bell Tolls smile
