Topic: PBS fundraising idea

Hey i just got this idea, don't know if its been tossed around before.
i will send it along to Eric (our Street Team Leader) but I know they can't always implement everything in an official way.
I got to thinking about the PBS showing of Tour De Force tonite and our local station, MPT.
It a little late for this campaign but for other markets and if they are going to do more in the future, I thought it would be cool if street teamers volunteered to man the phones during the broadcast.
They often get groups in for various things, and we could wear a Joe shirt (preferably street team) and during any slow times, share our wealth of Joe info with everyone there and/or correct the announcers if they accidentally flub up with a detail, lol.

ideally perhaps the stations could let the office know the airings during fundraising so we could plan the best but also i guess we could just volunteer ourselves. I know a few bonabuds in the area that would be up for this and are close enough to the station and it would be a good way to release our energies and get together, especially when there is not a show in the area to otherwise promote yet.

just a thought. i have volunteer for various thing but never this before. it might be the only way i get on TV wink and i know my Mom already $suports the station but I bet she could not resist calling in if i was on the air big_smile

Re: PBS fundraising idea

Those might not be live backgrounds.  I know they have some green screen background reusage during some of those programs.

...As long as I get to wear sunglasses indoors in bright lights... cool

And Jane, neato, you could always make a mistake on Mom's credit card too! yikes big_smile wink lol

Re: PBS fundraising idea

Thanks. Yeah I realized that last night, that they replay some of the same "intermissions" on these sometimes. It was cool though watching a little bit last night because the folks doing the fundraising have obviously gotten to know Joe and become bigger fans since the first airings of RAH09. smile I did find a volunteer page on the MPT site. If they do Joe and Beth or RCFP and we knew enough in advance it might happen. I live fairly close to the station here too so it wouldn't be a bad drive for me. Well I wish I had thought of this a couple years ago but still one of the more creative ones I have had in a while and its more a help Joe support PBS rather than the other way around but really just a mutual appreciation thing. I'll let you know if I hear anything back from the office and I might check out that volunteer form or call and see if its possible to get on a list for being willing to take calls during a Joe airing, heck I don't even need to be on TV. They still needs folks during those reruns I guess.

That is a cool idea Jane. Would be fun to all be there together helping out. Keep us updated on what you find out smile

That's the thing, Jane.  They do need local volunteers regularly for phone bank staffing.  Including rebroadcasts.
From this post; https://forum.jbonamassa.com/viewtopic. … 66#p292766 I can bring to the topic they MIGHT have had actual "live" phone volunteers on the first San Diego airing of acoustic Vienna Opera House highlights (which had been previous to the post's date).  The question about reading other people's names I ask again.  Do they read people's names in other markets?  They read names and city on the first broadcast here, but the repeat broadcasts repeated the names listings, so it was only once.  If I recall, they had phones in the background that might have been in KPBS studio live at the first airing.  Not certain, but it seemed different looking compared to other "membership" drive shows, and surely came across as probably being a live event. wink

ANYthing you find out Jane, pass out here, please, even though it possibly only applies to your market.  YOUR market is one of the best and (you) could be a real leader in US making these sort of things happen! big_smile
