Gary Wright, Peter Frampton.......Opening for "The Beach Boys"..talk about a mist match show L.O.L

(Frampton comes alive Stadium tour....he tore it up)

And so castles made of sand melts into the sea, eventually.........

Yeah, at that time The Beach Boys were the joke of live performers.  They and the totally scraped recording performances of the Electric Slight of Band Orchestra. yikes

Re: Best support act you've ever seen?

Even though I'd already seen Joe Bonamassa as a solo act, he of course qualifies opening for Bad Co.-Foreigner and Gregg Allman Band.

However, for the umpteenth time, Best support act hands down was Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band opening for Black Sabbath, fall 1976 at the San Diego Sports Arena.  Kicked Ozzy's **** into a further spiral.  3 (THREE!!!) encores and the crowd screaming for 5 minutes+ straight for a 4th...that was no technical ecstasy for Bob Seger, it was off the feel good charts.  Ozzy was pissed and I don't mean altered states of any sort, pissed OFF.  2/3 of the Sabbath show were as ho hum as could be.  Luckily Tommy Iommi's, Geezer Butler's, and Bill Ward's playing picked up considerably at the last third and Ozzy reeled everyone in eventually.  But Bob Seger & all of the Silver Bullet Band members ruled the "Night Moves" that date.

Bob Seger & Silver Bullet Band is right up there as either #1 or #1-A as one of the best live shows I have ever been to. Saw them on the same tour that "Live Bullet" was taken from, and it was nothing short of amazing - and even though it was an arena show, the sound was great too.

Re: Best support act you've ever seen?

I hate both of you. lol Bob has been on my bucket list for a long time now, guess I won't get to see him. I was just listening to Live Bullet two days ago, outstanding!

Re: Best support act you've ever seen?

1. Starz opening for Ted Nugent 1977
2. Van Halen opening for Black Sabbath 1978
3. Sammy Hagar opening for Boston (walked out during the organ solo) 1978

When I was a child I spoke as a child, But all I heard was how I should get ahead,
Now growing up it ain't anything but all This indecision with these debts and doubts
And worries hanging over my head. When I was a child I spoke as a child,
I wish I could remember what I said.

Re: Best support act you've ever seen?

Maybe weird, but when I read the thread title the first thing that immediately jumped to mind was Ambrosia opening for Heart in 1978.

They really stood out, and "Holdin' On to Yesterday" was particularly awesome.

Quick edit - posting this prompted me to go look up Ambrosia on youtube, not having paid much attention for a really long time.  Found a reunion vid from 2009 of Holdin' On To Yesterday http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0j2BI3BHhII that was pretty cool.  Much better with David Pack on lead vocals back in the day, but still an awesome bluesy toon.

Now THIS is a track I've love to hear Joe and his band do.  There's some pretty sweet solo potential there, and I'll bet Carmine could do some serious justice to the bass groove.
